  • Closely listen to a Pre-Januarye 8th of Inception, particularly around, "Do It."

  • Orwell got it wrong, jesus christ. How skewed do you views have to be to think otherwise. He simply got it wrong. Missed the mark.

  • @Banned4Life

he made a very good fucking point that holds true today

  • @cater94 Not if you bother to ACTUALLY look around.

What Orwell feared were those who would ban books. What Huxley feared was that there would be no reason to ban a book, for there would be no one who wanted to read one. Orwell feared those who would deprive us of information. Huxley feared those who would give us so much that we would be reduced to passivity and egoism. Orwell feared that the truth would be concealed from us. Huxley feared the truth would be drowned in a sea of irrelevance.

  • @cater94 Orwell feared we would become a captive culture. Huxley feared we would become a trivial culture, preoccupied with some equivalent of the feelies, the orgy porgy, and the centrifugal bumblepuppy. As Huxley remarked in Brave New World Revisited, the civil libertarians and rationalists who are ever on the alert to oppose tyranny "failed to take into account man's almost infinite appetite for distractions."

  • @cater94 In short, Orwell feared that what we hate will ruin us. Huxley feared that what we love will ruin us.

  • @Banned4Life

if you go to wikipedia and look up brave new world, and go to the section called 'Comparisons with George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four', there's a paragragh exactly like the one you just wrote. weird eh?

  • @cater94

I did not claim the comparison as my own as I am not the media theorist and cultural critic named Neil Postman. His word bears more weigh than mine, I'm sure. I have only read both books; what I haven't done is devote my life to the topic.

So where's the counterargument in that?

  • All of u shut up

  • OBAMA OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • OBAMA=Bush

Bush, Clinton, Clinton, Bush, Bush,Obama Change? (Obama has the same Clinton people in so is it in reality?

    Bush,Clinton, Clinton, Bush, Bush, Clinton

  • Well said, they are all paid actors. Nothing more and as long as we chose Democrat or Republican nothing will change.

  • We are living 1984. But difference from the book & movie is the mass immigration of non-white peoples into their countries to destroy their culture, society, & race (sp). Look up Antonio Gramsci. Destroy a people through destroying their culture. "White" people are an endangered species.

"A boot smashing into your face for eternity" true but the white face will not last very long

  • ...and thats a bad thing???

what do you mean " 'White' people are an endangered species. " ?

last time I checked, we were all human!

(and what the heck does any of this have to do with Apple or the Macintosh?!?!) ...?!

  • Have you checked your drugs lately? (or medication)

  • you basically said "blacks and whites shouldn't have kids together... WHITE POWER!!" ?!?!?!?!

have you checked your medication, lately?

do you even know know what year it is?

this is not the 1800's, please come back to reality!

  • *sorry... one "know", not two.

  • What does "White Power"mean? Does that mean that you are a gov't employee or are attending summer session at a Huntington learning center for 5th graders?

Dickforbrains said" Blacks and whites should not have kids together....White Power?!?!"

You basically said that stupid nonsense plain & simple.

Are you : A: On drugs B: Failed Huntington Learning center for 5th grade C: Government employee D: a dimwit that is looking for brains because he says "White Power" or E: All of the above

    I say E

  • when I combine the things you've said...

"mass immigration of non-white peoples into their countries to destroy their culture, society, & race"

    and

"White people are an endangered species"

    and

"the white face will not last very long"

    and

    "are you... a government employee?"

    ...

  • ...I get the feeling that:

    A: you are extremely racist

B: you are a conspiracy nut

C: you yourself are on drugs

D: your comments are off topic for this video, or

    E: ALL OF THE ABOVE

    I say E

  • Not sure what you mean by racist whats the real meaning or are you going to give me the Newspeak version?

Conspiracy nut or conspiracy theory? (Theory was a movie you know)

Have you checked your weed (Dusted mo)

You never explained why you were into "White Power" or whatever the hell that means?

Are you doing extra credit work at Huntington?

  • If you still don't know what "White Power!" is, then you should probably go back and retake your history classes in that Huntington Learning Center of yours.

(or at least learn how to use Google Search)

...you know, "White Power!" ("Nazism", "White Supremacy", "The Ku Klux Klan"... "Racism")

The way you wrote your comment made it sound like you had something against "non-white" people, as if we should protect the skin color. (which has nothing to do with this Apple commercial)

  • i'm still waiting for your definition of racist.

    Not sure about Nazism either.

White Supremacy not sure what you are trying to insinuiate with me seems almost like a knee jerk reaction with you. White u say Black. Stop You say Go. Fast you say slow.

Now you have thrown around alot of words accusations, and insinuations as to applying to me, and if you read my post, I did not mention any of those kooky things, YOU DID.

Are you interested in Wildlife Biology at all?

  • I want to get back to the Conspiracy topic WHICH YOU BROUGHT UP. by your statement "are you a Conspiracy nut" are you insinuating that A: There has never been any Conspiracies in the past or B: there are no Conspiracies ongoing in the present?

Go to wikipedia and look up Agent Provocateur

    Are you Democrat or Republican?

And my post was in reference to the proletariat in 1984 the ethnic composition has changed alot since the movie was made.

    Are you into Ecology?

    This "Nut" Thanks you

  • my original reply to your comment was "what do you mean...?"

and you responded with "Have you checked your drugs lately?"

I then responded with sarcasm and you asked me if i was a "government employee" (??) in the form of a "multiple-choice question".

    ...

  • ...

I rephrased my question ("explain yourself"), with more sarcasm, in "multiple-choice" form just as you had done.

You again respond with "Have you checked your drugs?" and ask for definition of things I would assume most people know.

I (now fed up with you), rewrite my question as simply as I thought I needed to and you answer it with something you've already told me.

    ????

  • *the definition of things...

  • Hi Dave,

I wanted to get a followup on this Conspiracy thing that you brought up. (We can hold off on your slander of kkk white power (thats real kooky)nazi etc

We can wait on the Racist canard and address that after you tell me the Conspiracy nut angle that you tried to brush me with

Are you interested in wildlife at all?

As to things most people know, well lets say some people read books and do not have access to google

Could there be 2 versions of words? Oldspeak vs Newspeak?

    Ty Dave

  • I'm not sure what you talking about...

I brought up the whole "conspiracy nut" thing (one time) (this is called sarcasm) because you asked me if I was a "government employee" (??).

I was only giving you an extremist view of what I thought you were saying.

I only mentioned that "kooky stuff" because I misunderstood your comment... You obviously weren't being racist.

So, I'm sorry if I upset you in any way.

As for the "Oldspeak vs Newspeak" topic, I agree with you.

  • heck, I agree with you completely!

Have you been reading my comments in other videos?

  • Thank you dave

    And I will

    take care

  • @davedotproductions

    So do I.

  • no, but 2003 to the present will be EXACTLY like 1984

  • linux is the third option in the two os paradiam

  • if you dont mind im off to the hate week festival

  • That was actually better than the movie "1984" I still like the movie though.

  • hooter's girl to the rescue

  • playing Quake got me in to literature, Lovecraft and now I'm reading 1984 cos there is a custom map called RCDM7 - The Ministry of Love and it struck my curiosity with the slogans of the Party on it >:}>

time for the 2 minutes of hate

who said playing video games kills your mind?

  • i don't get it

  • Read '1984' by George Orwell.

  • we are living 1984

  • OMG! I saw this for a graphics class and didn't get it!!!! Now I'm reading it for english and I DO! Wow...weeeiirrdd

  • Lee Clow is a famous Creative Director for a reason, this commercial is what put him on the map, and continues to over 20 years later. The fact that he has been at the same agency for over 30 years says something about his ability, mainly since Creatives are usually at 10 different jobs at 10 different companies at the same time.

I can't believe that this commercial almost didnt get to air.

  • WHOA!!! the double think is so thick its surreal....

    highly disturbing to me.

  • Welcome to 1984, I thought it was the new millennium but I guess I was wrong.

  • Cool! Let's end big blue domination! (Uh, we already did...)

  • i liked this video :)

    funny video lets chat PI

  • as 14yrs...never saw this ad.Who cared

  • Orwell was an optimist

  • North Korea.

  • The most brilliant commercial ever, hands down.

  • if the world ever got to this point i would just kill myself

  • its already at this point, wake up

  • not actually...were controlled only by money...you can choose to be free from society if you wish...i meant if we were literally like robots such as in this video i would kill myself...I wouldnt allow anyone to control me that way...the world needs to wake up

  • no you wouldn't - if you were a robot, you'd be incapable of any free thought or the ability to contemplate, much less succeed, at terminating your own program vectors.

When we...err, the robots, take over, your lot will be the first against the wall!

    100010100010101000111100100110!

  • You'd kill your self? I think you need to wake up you muppet!

Why would you do that? Just to have that last bit of control, you sound like a control freak to me mate!

Have you not heard of Revolution?

What happened to standing up and fighting for your rights?

    Why such a defeatist attitude?

Sounds to me like they've already won the battle on your mind my friend... You don't have to be surrounded by four walls and a locked door to be living in a prison!

We're on a different level to 84 now!

  • Are you kidding me? I'd take the rest of the world out with me.

  • @McDollaz : Suicide??? I prefer to die in a good fight...

  • @McDollaz

So I'm assuming by now you're not able to read this?

  • @McDollaz hey, its been 3 years sense your comment. you still alive?

  • mac is the retareded cousin of microsoft, keep tryin you mac virgins

pc's are for fuckin normal people

  • rofl

  • right on

  • Yea... but this advert isn't attacking M$. it's having a go at Big Blue (Big Brother) AKA IBM

  • Microsoft's watching you.

  • yeah it was pretty stupid...i was just kidding...i dont actually believe that

  • I am a mac user and I love this compercial... That is the single most stupid comment I have ever heard. Damn man... you are retarded.

  • I saw two black men in this commercial. Or was it just the lighting?

  • I lol'd

  • i didnt know apple hired hooters girls fo there commercials!

  • While completing 1984, george orwell

    was slowly dying of tuberculousis

and staying at a sanitarium away from the general public known as

    Waverly hills.

    Despite popular believe

    the idea and concept for

    "BIG BROTHER"

    was actualy brought on by

the seemingly repetative day in day out schedule Orwell had to endure while staying at the sanitarium.

    .

  • I don't get the whole act?

  • well, it's not like the guy who directed this later directed a movie that cost way too much money and did horribly at the box office... oh yeah! blade runner!

  • Ummm... BR was actually BEFORE this.

  • I saw a video on google called "Money as Debt". WOW did it open my eyes. Now I see how the whole system works and it's high time we stop playing by their rules, because we're getting screwed in the end.

  • "won't be like 1984"

in sense of " there will be much more control with computers in" ?

haha right, it will look more sexy sooo apple like? I need an I CHIP with free i tunes ...* !

  • Like your stupid comment!

  • Someone should remake 1984, that is such an eerie prediction that can be expertly reproduced on screen... with a good director of course...

  • ok, I'll do it.

    hahaha.

Yes, you are right. It would be nice to watch such a movie on the big screen.

  • he's right. 1984 wasn't like 1984. It will be a bit later:)

  • lol

  • 1984 + 23 = 2007.

  • kickass

  • funny

  • lol

  • Wait, 1984 not "1984", like the book right?

And that was the 2 minutes hate or somthing?

  • yea but she was supposed to throw a dictionary

  • oh. ok

  • MAC SUCKS AND THAT COMERCIAL WAS DUMB

  • This commercial has become a case study in MBA programs as part of their marketing case studies. It's a classic.

  • excellent commercial. If a companies are going to blow several million dollars on commercials during the upcoming super bowls, why don't they use big name directors more often? I mean, people are still talking about this one for a REASON.

  • they only use $200,000 to make a commercial

  • true. But I was talking about how much they have to pay to put a commercial up during the super bowl. It was $2.6 million for Super Bowl XLI. What I'm saying is that the companies might as well hire a big name director, if they are spending that much cash anyway.

  • The democrats will surely lose again. Damn, do we need a 3rd party?

  • Lmao no right minded person wants a republicunt in office douche bag!

  • I have no problem with any "cunts", but I must say that pricks like you, whatever the political coloration, are definitely losers.

  • hop off, we took you republicunts out of most off the house now we got the big brother cunt left and it will all be over...

  • OH!!! I get it now. I had to watch it twice to get it. YAY I UNDERSTAND!!!

  • djcrunk, so a rainbow has to automatically be gay pride now? Dang, I'm getting old. I remember when a rainbow was just a raibow...

  • Ubers Ende der Welt. woohoo! xD

  • Ditto

  • What. The. HELL.

  • 1984, apply directly to the computer

  • A gaypride apple haah xD

and yeah I thought it'd be better..

  • wow terrible. i expected it to have something to do with the book, but it didn't.

  • yep, nice commercial...and fairly intelligent, too

  • th?

  • One of the top 10 commercials of ALL TIME.

Ridley directed this during his career apex (following Alien and Blade Runner). I think this aired ony once. Legendary in commercial circles.

  • Eee... przypomina mi to pewien teledysk, ale to takie małe nic ...

  • There's an episode of Futurama where some guy is cryogenically unfrozen from 1984 and they make the same commercial lol.

  • man that book was so amazing!!!

  • weak

  • Im not a fan of the 80's movie scare tactics. Terminator like "grim future" scenarios give me a horrible feeling in my chest. I know I am too young to understand that crap like that is cool to you older people but the only reason this commercial is still relevant is because it may have changed advertising during the Super Bowl. Macs are still as irrelevant to the new world as this commercial is.

  • Speak for yourself. I'm throughly enjoying MY MacBook.

  • wtf?

  • What do you mean your to "young" to understand it you 31. I'm 21 and I get it. Pick up a book.

  • Mac is doing better than ever, thanks. Those of us who use both know how much better a Mac is than a WinBlows mchine, but go ahead, knock yourself out. As for "grim future" scenarios, they're not about being cool, they are about concern over what is becoming of our planet, culture, etc. Acting like you're too cool to give a crap (or being too ignorant to know what's going on) is REALLY uncool.

  • Mac are so irrelevant that every new windows operating

system is a copy of the latest mac os. Yep, pretty irrelevant!

  • I had a friend who had one of those macs... It all makes sense now. Last year he threw a hammer into it and it blew up. I can see why.

  • lmao

  • 1984 big brother is watching

  • well, now that people have explained it to me, I guess this commercial is pretty important.

  • This ad changed everything! If you're a youngin'...you wouldn't understand. This ad changed advertising and made the Super Bowl the media event that it is today!!!

  • did anyone notice the gay apple at the end?

  • Anyone who thinks this isn't brilliant is too young to understand that back in the dark ages we didn't get bombarded by 100,000 ads and such each day. I got chills the first time I saw it and still feel that way and it's been 23 years. AWESOME!

  • Most awesome commercial ever made, and I'm a Windows girl myself!! Gives me chills every time. Next time I go to an '80s theme party I should dress up like the sledgehammer babe. Love it love it love it!!

Does anyone know the name of the voiceover guy at the end? I think he's still around, his voice is really familiar.

  • Amazing, beautiful...so ahead of its time. Prob the first ad NOT to show or tell what the product was. (yes i know they say computer in it). It created interest, and anticipation. Remember, this was way before all the crap that saturated tv. If its Stupid to you you're a moron. watch it again and learn something.

  • This commercial is freaking stupid. What's the big deal???

  • In two words: George Orwell.

  • Idiot.

  • In their new video they have sth like that

  • me dio escalofrios

  • Sweetie, what's that all about? You are 22 not 31.

  • The Apple I was made 31 years ago.

    The Mac was in 1984

  • Clearly, George Orwell stole the title of his book from this commercial.

    What a fucking rip-off.

  • ROFL!!11!1

  • You should all read '1984' by George Orwell. IT's one of those great books that reveals more to you everytime you read it.

  • they copied this from futurama! how the hell could they have predicted matt groening would use it for his show in 2002, mind readers; obviously. cool stuff

  • lol, great commercial, but i be people nowadays wouldnt understand it.... they are too busy patriotically supporting the neverending war.

  • that was a real commercial!!!

  • 1984 started on 1994...

  • wat

  • Windows...

  • chillingly deep..

  • im lost

why did she thrown it for.

this is one of the weridest

  • This ad is inspired by Orwell's novel "1984." Big Brother is on the huge screen. She throws the hammer to destroy the screen and protest the authoritarian rule over society.

  • ohhhhhh

thank you so much ill look that book up.

i now, for all these year what that means....

  • Apple still dominates Microsoft. It's just one of those things that won't change.

  • That was scary

  • What the hell was that lol.

  • At the time this advertisement came out, Apple had a huge technological lead over all other pc's. Remember, Apple's founder came up with the following computer innovations: Using a typewriter keyboard to imput information to a computer, using a monitor, using a hard drive, etc...

  • That isnt entirely true, the keyboard was used in some mini computers, a monitor was also in mini computers but was also in the computer that played space war in the 1950's, the hard drive was invented in the 1950's by IBM.

  • 5mb storage and weighed a full ton. Apple sold the first home computer with these things. Before that, people used tape recorders for info storage. You don't remember programs stored on punch cards, used up into the 1980s?

  • Apple didn't predict correctly the future. There is still an alienated mass of people (near 99% of users) that blindly follows the directions of Microsoft PCs.

Neither Macintosh, nor OS/2, nor Linux, even though the last two ones ran/run on PC architecture have been able to change this situation.

  • You are wrong.

Maybe they use microsoft. But steve jobs is the one who had the VISION of 1 computer for each person. Before it was only used for business, and research.

He predicted correctly the future, because computers have changed our lives.

  • why do us residents use a windoze pc when they got all or nearly all games for mac as well? do they like to be 84rd?

  • Fast forward to 2006:

    PCs ARE better

but apple makes everything look cool

    not much has changed.

  • just be quiet. pc are terrible

  • Heh, girl in white and red looks like a soviet athlete and she is throwing a hammer, wonder where she keeps her sickle.

  • It's Anya Major - the model from Elton John's 'Nikita' video

  • yah thank god for apple! it wont be long until there will be armies of footsoldiers marching down the street with sytlish ear buds in ear shouting propaganda coming from the starbucks satellite

wait i just saw that this morning on my way to the subway

  • Is that an iPod she's listening to?

  • of course not. its 1984.

  • o.O i dont get it :(

  • read '1984' by Oruel .. or just find some smmary :)

  • HAHAHA! Yes, Apple has always been a fiesty little company, hasn't it?

    Wonderful find!

  • its true, 1984 has not begun on 1984.

    It actually happened on 9/11.

  • Astouding! Apple rock the world that year!

  • pc's are still better

  • chilling

  • sos your mom

  • i get it now
