I got the Fractal hoping to just run it through a Randall power amp & be done with amps & pedals. I tried this out in the past without luck. This didn't work out either. Maybe it's too perfect? My amps have a physical element to them,I play to them. My analog pedals have the same quality. How you play determines the tones you get, it's endless. When I play through this it feels the same no matter how I play. I need that contact that this doesn't provide
@MrUltraworld Used to Feel this way, but it's mostly in your head. I frequently dialed into much gain with the axe and couldn't get the best out of it. I still like the feeling of plugging in an amp. But for home recording the Axe slays.
U want the best modeled High Gain Marshall Tone Ever? here it is: go to soundclick.....search for 'Strat78'....go to his music page and take a listen on the 2nd page to "Runnin' With the Devil - '76 Destroyer' or "On Fire - Pickup Test" - best modeled Marshall tone EVER.
Sounds great at this volume, however in a Live application with a loud Bassist, and drummer the tone degrades, and gets lost in the MIX. There is No substitution for Real Heads.Thats just where Line 6, and all the other modeling manufactures are at right now. Maybe some day there will be a modeler/effects all in one that will sound great at full CONCERT Volumes, but until then, have fun in your bedroom!
Man, what a playing and tone !!! I have effect unit from other company, but must say that I saw best tones from Pod x3 live. You are right, so many people trash these units but ,if you take time you get some crazy tones and when so called ,,tube snobes" listen without knowing what it is, they blown away.....
When they find out, they just scratch their head and say ,,well something was missing anyway..." ha ha.
Well I want to play without spending few G's on gear, so.....
@Dimeist - From there you're gonna need the MXR Phase 90 stombox too... come to think of it, you'll need the Platinum version to get everything that you'll need. With the Platinum POD Farm, you'll be able to substitute the EP-3 for the EP-1 and put a Binson Echorec in the chain for the Special FX delays (EVH used the Echoplex as a pre-amp and light echo, the Binson was used for the end dive on Eruption). I'd use the Slap Plate for Reverb and make sure to cut all of the deep bass frequencies.
@Dimeist - You're too kind good sir, if you have the free version, you might not be able to get close. But if you have the full version, then start with the 1). Marshall® Super Lead ("jumped" channels) model and experiment with the '67 or the '68 Greenbacks with 4x12 cabinet models. From there, you have more choices than the PODX3 Live, you could go with the EP-1 Tube Echoplex and use it as a preamp or use the Chandler Tube Driver Stompbox... a combination of both would work best,. Contnued...
@zmb1982 I copied the settings you had in the end of the video. Works great, but it doesnt sound as smooth with my EMGs, or it might be my playing, the tone is pretty much the same. Thanks alot man.
@shonethekingbb - I thought that it was just me with the goosebumps...oh, and your checks in the mail! When I want to stick a shotgun in my mouth and pull the trigger, I'll re-read this amazing comment from a REALLY kind person! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
@gregRAIN Playing like a beast is probably all I have ever striven to be. When I feel like giving up and throwing in the towel, I'll remember this comment and feel empowered. It's people like you who make the world go around... a heartfelt thank you Greg!
@bigman12583 - The ISP Decimator is mainly for the Tone Press. The Tone Press is like any compressor/sustainer in that it increases the noise level in the signal. The X3 Live has a red compressor (mxr) and a blue compressor (BOSS CS) but you only get one stomp box and I'm using the tube distortion already. it's nice to have the ISP to cut noisy pickups like the JB. The POD series also seems to have a tiny bit of a RF rejection problem too. I'm also just taking full advantage of the effects loop.
@bigman12583 Thanks for responding,I have not figured out all the ins and outs of the x3.I was one of those people that thought that line 6 was not as good as "real tube amps" this and other units ax-fx,11 rack, sound better to me and much eazer to work with.thanks
I totally agree the Pod X3 is amazing, could you email me the tone for these sound clips? Or put the specs up somewhere Please, I am not good at getting good tones
@Fleedd - at 4:05, I show the exact settings of the patch in order for fellas like yourself to cop the tone. You'll just have to make that far in. lolz.
Anyways, thanks a lot zmb1982 I put this into my own X3 and this one sounds great! There aren't a lot of good EVH patches out there but the X3 is definitely capable of producing some good Marshall tones.
@mxr80 - Thank you very much kind sir. A cool thing about the patch is that it is EVH's base early brown sound. You can quite easily copy the patch to another location and create a 1984 era sound by backing off the gain a bit, cutting some of the bass, a room instead of plate reverb and dialing up a subtle early Eventide chorus effect.
In all honesty, I struggled to re-create his script logo Phase 90 and only managed to hit the effect at around 70% accuracy. The phaser needs a little work IMHO.
@zmb1982@zmb1982 This is a great patch, I'd leave it as is. You're correct about less gain for later stuff as VH1 had more gain then even Ed intended and all album afterwards Ed backs off as you already know. It can be easily heard on the isolated guitar tracks here on YT.
@zmb1982 The Eventide detuned effect Ed used later on I have a tough time recreating on the X3. The chorus just doesn't sound quite right. Its a wet/dry signal & even though with the X3 you can use 2 tones (pan one hard left, the other hard right) it doesn't quite capture it. The X3 needs a harmonizer built into it.
@zmb1982 Ow Im going to.....I was was thinking of like a SH13 Dimebucker on the bridge and 2 SD shr-1 stacked hotrails for the singles. apprieciate the enthusiasm man. I just got turned on to these Hamers.....Theirs an 87 Chaparrel USA over here for 250 Euro/330 dollars...Im thinking about trying to sweettalk the wife into letting me get it too. Its neck through and all too like yours..as best as I can figure like yours
damn i thought it was eddie guitar with balls i love it cant wait to hear more from zmb1982 nothing better than a guitar player who knows what he is doing
That was cool! I got my 1st US Hamer this year. A 1991Centaura form HFC. Lovely guitar. Just need to save for my dream - US Cali. Well played dude, Vic...
