Saudades do mestre!
The world gets darker and sadder each day that passes without Jobim. He left us his children and disciples and they are brilliant but the people don't embrace the young ones the way the people celebrated Tom.
Where else can you see Tom Jobim in the presence of his closest friends, while he was still living, introduce a masterpiece like "Passarim" for the first time, and share it with me in the privacy of my bedroom years later. Only on YouTube. YouTube is awesome. Thanks to all you conceived and brought this technology to reality.
@pluggedin2u Thanks for replying to my question re male or female. It was merely to see if another man like me has these feelings in the public. So often You Tube is so full of tedious macho psturing. I hope we connect again some day. Ny the way, for beautiful music, check out Beatriz sung and written by Brazil's Milton Nascimento. There's also a Jobim piano version.
Will do. Thanks for the tip. You can also visit my channel to see the other Brazilian and Bossa Nova musicians. I have there. Their is a community of Japanese musicians that are amazingly talented and share their love for Brazilian music. I have several on my chanel.
What can you say. I am in tears listening to the maestro. Thank you Lord Above for having such exquisite taste to give us songwriters of this eternal brilliance. May I also say not only is ACJ a phenomenal pianist and guitarist, he is agreat, great singer like Louis Armstrong...a voice that touches the heart and the soul. This is a message from Wembley in London to Rio.
It's amazing how music transcends all languages and cultures. It is deeply spiritual. This brilliantly inspired composition has also had me in tears just like you, and I understand the Brazilian language( being Hispanic) but that doesn;t matter Japanese, English and listenersall over the world are also touched by this beautiful composition. I had to respond when I read your comment because you express my sentiments as if I were speaking. We are connected in spirit.
@pluggedin2u .How nice of you to be touched by my comments. We are indeed connected by the spirit of this truly great music. There is no doubt there are truly brilliant songwriters who are apart from all those now given licence to write their own songs because it's now the norm. Antonio Carlos Jobim is the real thing, a man with a talent to advance the human mind furher down the line and show what can be achieved. My best wishes to you (by the way I am a man, are you male or female?)
@julbim Hey julbim, it's great to see your enthusiasm about this song and specially about this video and ACJ, simply because it also brings tears to my eyes; there's no words for this song right!? Loved the cheers you've sended for us, and cheers from Brazil to London, England too!
@Brenorff Thank you Brenoff for your lovely message. I am a huge fan of Brazilian culture. I have just finished reading a biography of Pele What a fascinating and brilliant sportsman. Only Brazil at the time could have produced, as Pele himself implied, such "musical" football players in their movement and imagination. I wonder how Brazil 1970 would do against Messi's current Barcelona or Spain itself. My nephew's in-laws are over from Sao Paulo at this very moment and we had a bbq and sang.
@julbim Man that's something we can't even imagine! I'm, actually, from a city in Brazil called Belo Horizonte, or BH; but my father lives in Rio. BH is 423km from Rio and has a lot very eminent musicians also, people like Milton Nascimento, Toninho Horta, etc. I'm a musician myself might I add. But anyway, about England I would'nt have any words to express the overwhelming ecxitement that I get by listening or reading the fantastic quantity of marvelous pieces of work! Cheers!
@Brenorff Yes, England has excellent taste with the bands we've produced. I believe Jobim's compositions have come second to The Beatles in world sales and when this was pointed out to him, Jobim said "There are four of them>" He is right. The Beatles had John, Paul and George who could come up with Here Comes The Sun and Something. I know Brazil loves The Beatles because they recognise the wonderful internal and eternal optimism and sunshine in the songs mixed with a touch of "saudade".
@julbim Yeah man! And it's funny that you mentioned that. My friend told me the other day that the portuguese language it's the only one that created a word for a sort of abstract meaning, and the word is "saudade". And if you think about it, in the english language there's no specific word for this sort of abstract meaning, that the word "saudade" gives a name. Quite interesting stuff man! Cheers!
@Brenorff To me saudade is that sort of wistful memory of a free, untroubled and now nostalgic childhood that can never more be, perhaps later one's first kiss from a girlfriend that can never come back and one has a longing for those sunny days.
