But how would you get the land to do this? In the US the government owns everything and you cant just go building structures anywhere, and what about codes and stuff? Omg, I just realized how bad our government has us under their thumb!
I am going to do more than "share" this; I am going to BUILD THIS! Thank you for the inspiration! Let me know if there is somewhere I can find more instructions, etc.
beautiful house looks like it was ripped of a fantasy book! But this must habe been expensive as hell because of all the stuff that had to made specially like the windows etc. if its really isolated and proof like other modern houses this would really cost you. Houses like that are never a cheap alternative to regular houses otherwise we'd all live in a cool house like that ^^
Wow! This is like your Personal Hobbit House! The Frame of your House is so Natural! It Look so Comfy! On Second Thought... it feels like a Wizards Home! Hehe! Great Job! :)
You know, if I had the time to build this (and $ for supplies), I'd build a home just like it. There is no home quite like a one you build yourself, out of your time and resources. Heck, it beats living in a house full of formaldehyde in the carpets, asbestos in the wall plaster (if the home was made before the 80s and has the "popcorn style"), and other issues you might eventually find.
You have built a masterpiece that even the richest home-owners would long for.
you for all your help and I hope that anyone else that wants to live a more freedom driven life then what they currently have and will enjoy having less bills then this is the way to go by building a low impact woodland home you want.
how much rent i have to pay which is the biggest bill I have and the little bills will not seem as bad I still wanna have water, eletr, internet, and sewage because i still wanna have a washer/dryer and water for showers and sewage because i don't know how i feel about compost tolit/ systems but just getting rid of not having to pay rent will free up money i would not other wise have and that sounds like freedom to me if you wanna donate to help me get my dream going here is the link thank....
Im in the same boat im burnt out on paying bills after bills only thing i really wanna live and to have to pay for is things i need like tolietrys, internet, water, and eletrctricy, my American dreams is not to have to pay rent til i die or a mortage til i die or til im in my 60's no thanks if my dream of buying land and getting my hobbit house built i figured in my head my bills i will have a month will go down to about $200 a month since not paying rent will decrease how much ....
@sp4lg, can you please substantiate this? I am very familiar with this type of building method and know it to be extremely sound and solid, which is why there are buildings of this type (NOT this design, obviously) still in existence today that are estimated to be 800 years old. (google cob or peat houses as a start). I'd be absolutely delighted to be shown *any* 'modern standard', mainstream built house that isn't having major problems within a decade.
@rimfiredreaming Look at Dale's plan. Burying straw bales in a wet environment is asking for rot and vermin infestation. He left the house. He admits it.
if you look at his plan it is designed so the bales don't get wet with moisture. i have looked everywhere and no where does it say that he actually abandoned the house/cabin since it is only there for wood work and to watch over a friends land.
I'm actually looking for land somewhere right now in the United States and I'm planning on building a Low Impact Woodland Home. Gonna have solar panels, a well, going to grow my own vegetables and have a small farm for Pigs and Chickens and hopefully Alpacas. I'm done with corporate America and want a place where I can actually relax and not worry about bills upon bills upon bills. Wish me luck lol. :D
@Ghandiis16 I wish to do that too! Ever since my brother died in August, I've taken further distance to my family and especially the "society". My brother were one of the few who understood me and my view upon the world. NWO Conspiracy etc
We planned to move on out together, until he had a kid and life went on.
Our governments is killing mankind, it is impossible to be free.
I live in europe, I owe no property, and cant afford property taxes.
@Ghandiis16 im in the same boat as you are in IM sick of paying rent and i wanna free up some money so I totally understand your situcation 10000 percent don't give up on your dreams and keep your head high it will pay off in the long run
As I recall, Dale had to abandon this house in less than a year because it turned into an uninhabitable, muddy mess. Seems like building a home to modern building standards is more 'sustainable'.
actually no, he moved from there to build an even bigger one on a big amount of land and start a Eco village, it's called the lammas project. so if it was uninhabitable and a muddy mess i very much doubt he would be building a whole village based on these structures on a larger scale. He successfully built a bigger one and is now working on an even bigger one then that.
@aj329vchsvcgcvmsmcvk Is anyone living in the original house now? No. It's abandoned. He has since built and abandoned another house. It's silly to call having to build one house after another 'sustainable' -- because they're inherently unsustainable. The fact that he keeps doing the same thing over and over doesn't mean it's a good idea.
@sp4lg the reason he is not living in it anymore is because he had access to a much larger span of land and is now starting a whole village with many people involved i have already seen pictures of the same structure just much larger, he made a small scale of the house as practice because he has no building experience and has now moved on to a much larger project with a bunch of structures on the same land, he did not leave the second one he needed it for a place to stay while he built.
just like the first house was built for him to do wood work in the forest while having a place to stay if you went to his site you would know this is what it was built for. why would he spend 3,000 when he makes no money then abandon the house and move onto a whole village based on these structures but larger then spend even more money and just keep doing it over and over when the whole point of this is to not have to spend way to much money.
@sp4lg You're in error, there's many of them now doing fine. And 'modern building practices' housing is loaded with toxic materials and is about as sturdy as a kid's playhouse. They're junk but they make a lot of profit for builders who throw one up in a few weeks, takes 30 years to pay off. Look at what happens when a hurricane comes thru. This house is backed into the hillside and would take bad weather easily. And, it's lovely.
@IndigoVanguard They are from the same builder's newer house. BTW, I believe the windows were sourced from recycled auto windshields and other recycled glass. Find out if there's a 'Restore' builder supply near you or see 'tiny texas homes' website; he builds houses totally from recycled material which is free.
This is AMAZING!!! I hope me and my family can live soon in a hause like this. (or one of this) This would be the Heaven on Earth with children and animals...etc. <3
Nice video, nice music BUT the pictures in used here are from two different homes although they are both homes built by Simon Dale. And... it's not called the 'eco house' it's called the 'Woodland House'
Beautiful work. The irony is we think of this as the green future....when really it's a return to what we did before, in this case sod houses. I'm an insurance adjuster and these upright stick built houses we've put all over the landscape are targets for mother nature. I'm not saying designs like this are disaster proof but they are less inclined to certain types of wind/water/hail/lightning and even some fire damage.
@practicalwhacktical And, as I'm sure the insurance companies haven't thought of, if it costs so little to build, it will also cost little to replace, not 100s of thousands. We've been the prey of builders, code Nazis and banks for far too long. The word 'mortgage' means death pledge and that's what it is, a slave document. 30 years to pay for something that you can build yourself in mere weeks.
But how would you get the land to do this? In the US the government owns everything and you cant just go building structures anywhere, and what about codes and stuff? Omg, I just realized how bad our government has us under their thumb!

Amen! The world needs to follow it's dreams. Together, we can do it!
