When I was growing up, pinball games ruled. Sure, these video versions can be a blast. But it's just not the same as a real pinball game. I'll take a real machine that I can try and push around on the floor to try and move the ball around until it tilts...that I can cheat by raising the front legs... the kind where the metal ball hits the glass so hard you wonder if the glass will break, and the sound of free game when you match or win. 5 balls for a dime, er umm, 3 balls for 50 cents ;).

I spoke to Zen Studios recently. They said the plan is to release a new table (for either the PS3 or 360 version) every 2 months or so.

Also, they won't be remaking classic pinball games. There's licensing issues, and they say it's not as fun as making new games. So, no Attack From Mars. (Which I guess is what Earth Defense really is.)

Pinball FX fans can also look forward to a version 2 soon, hopefully bringing it up to the PS3 version's standards.

If you haven't already, you should review Super Pinball: Behind the Mask for SNES. It's one of my favorite early pinball games. Another favorite is Hyper 3D Pinball (it might have been called Tilt! in other countries) which came out for Sega Saturn and PC in the mid - late 90's.

Those are great alternatives or additions to the Pro Pinball series.

You really need to play PINBALL HALL OF FAME THE WILLIAMS COLLECTION for Xbox360 if you haven't already. It's the best pinball game out there and it's full of CLASSIC pinball machines. Right up your alley

This table is hard as hell. I still don't know how to activate ballsave and kickbacks. The crappy German translation also doesnt help.

@GunshipHero Kickbacks are pretty easy. There are three red drop targets around the table. If you hit one of them, a woman voice will say "save me". Now one of the randomly chosen ramps starts flashing and you have few seconds to hit it. If you succeed, you got yourself your right kickback. Left kickback is basically your cannon. You can activate it when your ball goes over the left "red bullseye target", this makes the far right lane flashing and you have few seconds to hit it.
