It's nice to see someone teach nage-waza (standing techniques) to BJJ guys. The whole pulling guard thing is so unpractical on the streets and diminishes the beauty and the effectiveness of throws and takedowns. Judokas train for years to withstand attacks via throws, sweeps and takedowns ... learning how to grip takes years as well. To learn how to throw and defend against throws is the hardest of all techniques in Judo.
@uchimataleao Well, yes and no. Some elements (like easily giving your back by going into a turtle position) is not a good self-defense technique but the rest is very effective in self-defense. Modern Judo is used in police units & armies all over the world (takedowns, pins, quick & explosive submissions as we see in competition ALL the time). I've personally used it in self-defense.
@uchimataleao Unless you specifically train something like Krav Maga or Spetsnaz Combat Sambo or traditional Japanese Ju-Jitsu, the rest is "self-defense" to a degree. Even modern BJJ or modern Sport Sambo, Judo, Catch Wrestling, Aikido or even MMA, all of them are limited self-defense. No competition can prepare you for weapons attack/defense, eye gouging, groin attacks, hair pulling, brick/bottle throwing, etc ... but to know modern Judo, Sambo, BJJ is better than nothing.

I could see that the blue guy is not a judo but a jujitsu man the way he shows his grip control.

Hate to seem like a douche but this is simply not a good gripping strategy.

@pcjudosambo Judo as we see it in competition isn't designed for the streets either my friend.
