  • the only thing i would buy from hornby is the dcc elite computer controlled system, i certainly would never buy any of their trains, this video proves my point how bad they can be from hornby.

  • lol from the looks of it, I would say that most of the railroad range locos have better detail than this. Great review

  • My 40 year old steam loco (a B12 in BR livery) has that kind of Loco-Tender coupling and it is very good

  • I have this loco and it is one of the most beautiful loco's i have ever seen. I agree that it shouldn't be called super detail but it's still nice. And after some extra running in, it runs perfectly! And you hardly notice the strange tender connection.

  • Its not even average detail, its RAILROAD detail!

  • @SuperJimjoe railroad engines look like the premium engines compaired to that

  • how much did you get it for

  • @connorwarren1996 - £50 to £60 I think. Can't remember now.

  • This model looks identical to the Triang model I have from the '60s (Single peice tender, same couplings, everything.) The model from 'The Caledonian' train pack looks much better tbh. Surely Hornby could release the locomotive from that pack on its own to replace it.

  • @KubicaAlonso123 - who knows, maybe in time they well release it again, much improved!

  • @KubicaAlonso123 There's a reason why it looks so similar my good man: It's because it basically IS the old triang model (or to be more concise, the updated hornby model from the 1980's) that has been repainted. It's about as cynical a marketing ploy as Hornby has ever done, personally.

  • @TheSaint491 Or, to my knowledge, that's what happened I should add.

  • can you do a review of the Br class 14XX loco, its a really great value for money loco, i should know, cause i bought one! please

  • @MrTrainboy1 - maybe, but I'm in no rush at the moment - have others to do first! :)

  • would you say, Intercity82, that that train is sort of a disapointment?

  • @MrTrainboy1 - definitely. A real shame.

  • They got this box mixed up with the box from the 9f evening star

    Lol

  • The engine is actually made from the original Tri-ang model. That's why it lacks detail

  • @Hancockified - time for a re-tool then!

  • @InterCity82 My fisher price thomas locos and stock have better tender couplings than that! Sure is time for a re-tool!

  • i think you should make videos on these locos moving

  • @rondahl18 - this is an old style review. I may come back and show them all in action - but I have other videos to do first.

  • If you're wondering about the detail? Don't be surprised.

It's not changed much from the original Triang model, give em a year or two, lol

  • its on the list for me to get. BUT ive seen something on Hornbys 2011 release's which i told you about a while back......6233 in War Time Black ;D Thats a must get for me first!

  • its unfair to say its rubbish you obviously have not seen any old triang hornby models of which this is an improved rerelease of and to we a welcome return, its not bad for a model made decades ago and a joy to look at without being to harsh.

i agree it should not be labeld super detail . other than that good review. cheers

  • Umm.. What about "The last Single wheeler"? Because I just used all my money to get it for Christmas...

  • @nintendoalien479 - as far as I know, the last single wheeler is a better model

  • @InterCity82 Oh Thank God...

  • @InterCity82 you should see the "last single wheeler" pack it has the same type of loco and its very detailed i found it cheapest at rails of shefield.com @ £99.50 may sound expencive but other shops are dearer

  • my guess, is that after the sucsess of the caledonian set, they decided to see how'd she sell in different liveries, theres a current set out at the moment called "the last single wheeler" and she's in LMS red, i dont know how it is with detal, but she looks absolutely gorgeous in it, and with red coaches, its a lovely sight

  • I picked up 'The Caledonian' set today, and it comes with this loco, albet in her CR identity (CR 123). The Caledonian one is much more detailed.

  • It's such a disappointing loco :( And it's mend to be a Limited Edition! Like you said, sometimes Hornby make 10/10 models and sometimes Hornby make 1/10 models! Any rail, would you be able to make a video of her? Thanks

  • @Badgersize - that's a good idea. I shall do a video of her running so people can see.

  • i was disappointed with this loco its jerky and not very detailed and the first one i got did not work at all.

  • @joeliethegoalie1 - this model could've been amazing, sadly it's not even average really.

  • @InterCity82 the reason why the deatil was moulded because it was an ex Tri-ang Model. Hornby didn't bother improveing it, besides giving it a new chasis and making it DCC Ready. But yeah what looks like a great model turns out to be just a moulded Model :(

  • The Box told a Lie!

  • @Frserthegreenengine - it sure did

  • What's more annoying is that it's a limited edition, you would of thought they would put more work in to it. I watched an other video of yours unboxing a rail road BR class 9f I think and that more features on it and had sprung buffers.

  • @djrobod - yeah, it's crazy. This loco is branded as super detail and limited edition - when the bog standard 9F 'Evening Star' is half the money, and 10x better!

  • this is really overpriced for model which features so little detail

  • @Radomboy1234 - yup, I'd have to agree with that. It's a shame too - it could have been sooooooo impressive as it's so odd - but they just didn't bother.

  • its normal rairoad detail

  • @MrEminemrulz - definitely, if that

  • what was your first train

  • @ZCNSHOW - revealed in an upcoming video featuring me! :)

  • Well I might get that tell me I should even though she is not super detail its more exepenize than the heart of midlothian

  • @MrScotsman82 - it could have been a nice model - but sadly, it's only average - if that.

  • @InterCity82 Least nothing will break off

  • The low detail is because the body mouldings are from the old Triang range from the 1960's,on a new chassis with new motor. The performance is not very good because of it's single driving wheels, just like the real thing. It was wrong of Hornby to call it super detail.

  • @blaster2012 - 100% agree

  • least nothing will break off lol

  • @helloimearl1 - true

  • Thats the best

  • @bash2357 - unfortunately the model isn't very good. The level of detail is quite poor and the performance is only average. :(

  • should be a railroad model

  • @AJZ2051jpm - definitely

  • wow u should get ur money back made me laugh when u was affendin it with thomas tank engien lol keep uploadin plz

  • @helloimearl1 - yeah it's a shame it's not as good as it should be basically

  • I agree totally with this same thing as mine. Hornby havnt done so well this time

  • @mattbozi89 - no unfortunately not

  • I've just bought a train pack called 'The Flying Dutchman' limited edition of 2000 and I got the 275th. I got her running today and it's something different. My next two train packs are (R2961 limited edition London 2012 train pack & R2953 limited edition Flying Scotsman USA tour 1969 train pack). I like the videos you do.

  • @USAtrain129 - wow - just looked some of them up and they seem like lovely locos! I'm glad you like the videos - thanks, I'll try my best to make sure they stay good and if there's anything you'd like to see - feel free to say.

  • the calidonion version doesnt run that too well

  • @trainlover657 - I'll upload a video of this one running asap.

  • ah well i am not the only one who has that locomotive

  • @scooterist1972 - it's such a shame, she's such a different design, but done quite poorly.

  • shame! she Does not deserve the name "super detail"!

  • @dan89876 - she doesn't - no.

  • thats a nice loco i wonder how many coaches she pulls

  • @class47peter - I've not conducted performance trials on her yet but she should be able to haul at least half a dozen coaches at least.

  • I think originally this was model from the Tri-ang Hornby range of the Sixties, which then had an XP64 motor. I have one in LMS Maroon picked up at a swapmeet. It's great it has been re-introduced, but to re-introduce it with almost no upgrading of detail and then claim it is a super detailed model is, quite frankly, scandalous!...and borders on deceit.

If I can find my original version I will post some shots so everyone can make a comparison.

  • @flmabhwd - I totally agree. It's such a shame too becasue it's a really nice loco, really different - they should have done a better job of her. Please post any videos on your version if you can.

  • @flmabhwd Yes, I agree. That would be a nice comparison. Sad that a Company like Hornby are trying that ploy though - not something I would expect from them; it seems as if they found the old mould and said "let's shove it out again and call it something different!" Would like to see the pics.

    Rob

  • Does it run well ?

  • even hornby raiolroad as more detail. but still 5*s

  • in this next type of vid can you show us them operating on the track?

  • I have an idea regarding the big fat couplings! :P If you have the bachmann set:harry the hauler, use the salt wagons and brake vans couplings and fit them to this loco. I did it to my hornby B12 and it looks a darnsight better than it did before I added the couplings. :/ another brilliant review. I was going to get this but thanks to this review, im steering clear of it. :)

  • Hornby are taking the piss!

  • I think Horby are pushing it a bit with detail level. Money for old rope.

  • That is a very disappointing model and I don't know about its performance, but I bet it will wheelslip alot due to the Single Driving wheel. I do not know why they say that it is super detailed when I don't even think its average to the standards you expect nowadays.

  • makes you buy if it says "super detail"

  • great vid

  • i love your video i hope i get hornby one and i live in the USA
