It can be any day of the year to balance an egg vertically like this. Do your research before stating something like this because people like you are why this urban myth still exists. I got two eggs to balance the other day and it's January.
While eating with some noblemen and discussing his discovery of the west-indies and thus failure to discover the route to the indies, Columbus dared them to place and egg standing on its end without any aid.
They all tried but all failed to stand it on its end, when Columbus, tapping gently the end of the egg, barely cracking the eggshell placed it on its end. The noblemen all complained that they could have done it. Columbus replied "while you all knew how to do it, I was the one who actually did it" ;)
honestly though, I don't know why exactly the egg stands, but I suppose it's because the wite and the yolk settle after some balancing effort and the mass center lowers, making it easier to balance the egg on its end...
I did a response posted today doing it so it can stand up on any day!

No its because its the equanox, you can balance an egg during that time of a year and only that time.
