  • Fair play to all the miners, that bastard Thatcher didn`t give them any, Good on for posting.

  • Wannabe's. The whole lot. If it were not for the Unions where would we be today? Tyrannous managers and penny-pinching baglickers. UNION ALL DA WAY! SLAINTE!

  • i'm from seaton delaval and i like this version, we had the same problem in 84-85 strike, not many of them but there was some, scabs, that is ! ! we will never have the problem of men scabbing at the pit again. no pits left.

  • The chorus here is Bonny Boys, why don't ye gan

    to catch the blackleg miner.

gan is North East England for go, which is where the song comes from. The version in the North East doesn't actually have a chorus, so this must have been added to make it more of an audience participation song.

  • Well done been wondering what they were singing. Geordie spoken with an Irish accent isn't the clearest on the ears.

  • The song is about Union miners attacking 'scabs' brought in to work for them during a strike. From what I can tell, the chorus is:

Gibe - To make taunting, heckling, or jeering remarks

Chorus: Oh buddy-boy why don't cha gibe

    Buddy-boy why don't cha gibe

    Buddy-boy why don't cha gibe

    Or catch the Blackleg miner

  • In the last line it could be either To/Or - hard to hear in the song.

  • I Wish!

  • Is it possible to find any of this stuff on DVD?

  • Excellent good recording,I heard Steeleye Span sing this many years ago also an excellent recording.

  • I can't figure out that chorus either....

  • Can anyone make out the words in the chorus? I want to cover this song but can't quite make it out. Cheers.

  • I think it's:

Bonny boy, why don't you go

Bonny boy, why don't you go

Bonny boy, why don't you go

    To catch the Blackleg miner

  • SORRY THEUPPERCANUCK!!!!

    the actual lyrics are:

O funny boy, why don't you gae,

    Funny boy, why don't you gae;

Funny boy, why don't you gae,

    Back to blackleg miner.
