Only because Final Fantasy 7 was a -first-. It causes Naustalgia in your little fanboy mind. People who grew up playing FF actually kind of hate the game, while people were just discovering it were like "OMG ALL DA EMOZ IN DIS SERIEZ IS LIEK SECKZ". I think that the general idealoligy is that after Sephiroth was temoraririly defeated in FF7, his forms, both soldier and his final form, sort of came as one, and that is why Sephiroth has the wing and many of the final forms spells in KH. WHEW!

Technically...he was in soldier. If you've played Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII, you find out that Cloud was actually Soldier 3rd class, yet he never made it to 1st (which is what Zack and Sephiroth were, before Sephiroth went crazy, etc.) And the reason he got Jenova cells was because after Cloud kills Sephiroth, he falls unconcious along with Zack. Later, Hojo and several Shinra Troops take Zack and Cloud for experimenting, and that's how Cloud got Jenova cells. Hope that helps :P

This Experiments are the reason why cloud was complettly confused about his personality. They escaped but were caught by the shin'ra zack was killed and cloud left to die. But cloud woke up took Zacks sword and went down to midgar - thas when FF7 starts

actually they both were not killed but seriosly injured. And it was Hojos job to save their lives. Hojo was the main assistant in the Jenova Project, this projects target was the baby Sephiroth, Sephirots exeptional Abilities came from this project and Hojo ist also Sephiroths father. (The other goal of this project were of course the reactors)
