  • my grandfather got bite by one of those here in brazil

  • How much salt do you put in the water ?

  • with the music this reminds me of the underwater level of mario 64 with the biggg eel

  • How much does one cost

  • yeah ive seen a moray eel eat a morons thumb off!

i dont think he saw the signs that say DO NOT FEED THE ANIMALS!

  • if any one ones one i have one up on craigslist for 10$ but you have to buty my small ciclide to...will add tank for 2$ is a spare tank so dont have filter

  • Well, we feed our Moray eel with fresh herring and he seems to like it.

He stopped to eat a while ago, for several month´s and didnt start to eat again until we bought him a bigger aquarium. After we put him in the bigger aquarium it only took 4 days before he started to eat.

Now we keep him in a 430 litres tank.

A good benchmark is that you should keep a moray eel in a tank thats 2,5 X the length of the eel.

The salinity we keep at SG 1.003 to 1.005.

  • We just gave ours a slightly bigger tank, but, by that benchmark we are nowhere near a big enough tank (and yes, we're having problems getting him to eat these days). I'm not even sure we could fit an aquarium that big in our apartment!

  • Well, try to put him in tank thats as big that you can find room for in your apartment.

Our moray eel eats now every second day, and i noticed that he have started to like the head of the fish i present for him!

Then we have arranged a lot of caves for him with about 100 kg of rocks and we also have plastic plumbing pipes going under the sand in different directions.

After we been feeding him he dissapears for a day or two into his caves and only come out again when he starts to get hungry..

  • This is exactly what I feed mine he smells it and goes in a frenzy but goes right past it most of the time. How did you get the krill to sink tho?

  • @killdog102 Not sure, they just ... sank. they were frozen and we'd defrost them under warm running water, maybe that helps? I can't imagine poor Morey having to catch something floating around.

  • @dotlizard I put the krill in my hand and hold it under hot water then throw it in the tank, my moray does not seem to mind going to the top for it tho.

  • @dotlizard I defrost in a small cup of my tank water....the warm tap water thing scarres me, chlorine, and god knows what else in the tap water...

  • =(....i had one for like a month. i never saw him eat. he died of starvation i think. idk why he wouldnt eat. i would try shrimp, krill, worms, everything. i tried feeding him in the dark and light. i feed bad. i have a video of him when he was alive.

  • @jquick09 they absolutely need brackish (salty) water. They're often sold as "freshwater" eels, but they're only born in fresh water, they then go on to live in areas where the ocean and fresh water meet. They will usually live for awhile in fresh water, but they stop eating eventually and die.

  • yeah i know..my water is brackish..i think i mean. i have a good amount of aquarium salt in there. and i know that because my Green Spotted Puffers are ok. but idk. thanks though

  • Those are krill, I think we got them at the pet store frozen but they were expensive. Now, he eats silversides (thawed, from the pet store, cheap), or regular shrimp (from the grocery store, thawed). An all -shrimp diet is bad for them, so mix in whitefish, silversides, whatever you can get them to eat. Also watch your water salinity, if it gets low, a full-grown eel won't eat (though younger ones probably will).

  • how long have you had him now? Did you need to add any salt? I used to have one 6 years ago but he got out somehow while i was at work. Never got another . But I am wanting to get one again.

  • @chriskmfdm they need brackish (salty, but not necessarily full salt water) to thrive as they get older - and they *need* a covered tank, because they do try to escape. They can do a tail stand and get out of most tanks because they get long pretty quickly. But they are great pets, so interesting :)

  • Honestly? I always thought these guys looked like hand puppets. Even when I see them at the aquarium.

  • thanks. the TZ5 excels at fish tank video :)

  • Nice video. Amazing clarity!
