lol, this picture is so baaaad ,its good,lol, I wuz 12 when it was made...but GUESS WHAT? The 'monster' in the room ,is none other than eddie carmel...(heavily made up) who was a REAL giant...and worked for Ringling bros -Barnum n Bailey Circus ,for many years. In the side show, as a 'big texas' cowboy "he really was over 7 foot tall, and had HUGE hands, you could go up and buy a 'ring' off his finger for 25c (I did this several years,wish I still had them,lol)

I'm sorry they don't have teen mom drama or slutty bad acters in them like most horror movies that pass as "good" simply because of cool special effects and modern gore (not that there's anything wrong with gore;)) but movies like this wee suposed to capture the inner serial killer in all of us, the inner sychopath, mad scientist, confused freak, sex maniac, horror show.. Not just in this film but in most films from the mid 30's----

I'm surprised at how many comments here are written on the assumption that this movie was meant to be taken seriously. Most movies like this were aimed at teenagers who paid for them by the carload; if they succeeded they were scary and funny at the same time. The camp here is a little more subtle than in a show like "Batman & Robin", but it's just as effective.

There's a part of the last scene that's been cut out. The monster breaks through the door and grabs the doctor but before the fire starts, he bites the doctor in the neck and pulls out something and THEN the doctor falls to the floor.

I used to see this one on WPIX 11's Chiller Theatre back in the day (and night)

This is a film of considerable shock value despite it's B movie roots, and it's rather morbid for the day.

It also reminds you of one of those old short stories from "Weird", "Tales From The Tomb" or one of the other pulp rags of the day. Classic!

How did the brain survive with no O2 during the trip after the wreck? True, there were reports of heads having some facial movement after beheadings, but this head had no O2 for many minutes. Constant air flow would limit conversation.

it borrows from frankenstein a little, although most films these days do, it's a very well known and liked story. remember that for the time, the sight of an apparantly disembodied talking head WOULD of been disturbing. these days expensive CGI and animatronics have desensitized people to a certain degree.
