One myth regarding this mission is that astronauts have poison pills, in case something goes wrong and they cannot return to Earth. In the book "Lost Moon" (also known as Apollo 13), James Lowell makes it clear that they never have had poison pills. Not ever.

In the movie Apollo 13, Sy was played by Clint Howard, little brother of Ron Howard, who starred in the 1960 series "Gentle Ben".

And... the minister in the Lovell home sitting behind Marilyn is Ron Howard's father. You see them both in almost all of Ron Howard's movies.

Jim Lovell's mother is played by Ron Howard's real mother and at the very end of the movie Tom Hanks shakes hands with the real Jim Lovell on the ship that recovers the Odessy.
