  • Wait, this guy sprained his ankle and the nurse wants to intabate him?

  • And this nurse is precisely the reason why Im getting my paramedic before I get my RN/BSN

  • A registered nurse in my State can intubate. Some procedures vary from State to State.

  • just out of curiosity are (plain) nurses in the USA allowed to intubate?

Or can nurses intubate if they are specialized?

  • @MedicalAviator In Ohio, nurses cannot intubate,do needle crics, chest decompressions,or give meds without a specific dose for a specific patient being written out by a doctor, unless they are a critical care nurse, which is basically a crash paramedic course, whereas a medic can do all the above things as well as handle patients on ventilators,IV pumps, and put catherters in w/o needing critical care certs (though most private companiesdo prefer a medic have a critical care medic cert before hire)

  • @CyanoticFuture I understand, Thank you for the information!

  • @CyanoticFuture interesting...in NYS RN's cannot do any of the above even with a 4-yr degree, medics can do some of these with much less formal education; but it's all based on protocol--i.e. Standing orders

  • Abbott: Didn't you ever go to school stupid?

Costello: Yes, and I came out the same way.

  • And the nurse gets paid more than the paramedic!

  • rofl
