  • Why is this not on Itunes?

  • This song always makes me cry inside. I love my Momma dearly, but there was a lot of tension growing up. Daddy died when I was 10, and Momma had me and my 2 teenage bros and my little bro to raise alone. It wasn't easy on any of us, but she loved us so much and prayed for us all the time. As an adult, our relationship was trying at best. When I first heard the song I Thot about Daddy being gone. When your gone, your GONE FOR A LONG LONG TIME. and I decided to try to make peace with her imperfe

  • This was my late husbands FAV song...he died in the middle of aBIG fight with our daughter...she was not there that day he died...and later that same year she had a a baby girl who never got to know her grandpa. Such a haunting song for our family. Brings tears stillI.

  • @antman :You Fucking fuck Arschloch

  • Hope my kids play this at my funeral

  • @almitash I played this at my Father's funeral. There wasn't a dry eye in place afterwards.......

  • God I miss Dad

  • やはり、良い曲ですね、感動して涙が出そうになりました。

  • Just Beautiful.

  • this song always touches me because of the problems with my father ....

  • If you love someone let them know and tell them all the time In The Living Years because once we are gone,we are gone. This is such a GREAT song.ROCK ON!!!!!!!

  • I was 29 when my dad died and he was 29 when I was born....this gets me every time..and its been 16 years..............16 damn years............not over it yet. I don't get it and i guess i never will.

  • @stalbanslad Dear friend, I am 65, lost my Dad when I was 18. You are correct, when you stated that you "don't get over it" but you do learn to live with it! (I suppose we have to). Inspite of our loss, isn't it lovely that after all this time they are still dear to us. Spare a thought for those people who didn't have a loving relationship with their parents. Take care.

  • Each time I watch Living years it brings tears and gives me the shivers due to my distant... try to get closer relationship to my mom.

  • Perfeito.... poucos artistas fazem musicas tão boas como essa.

Atualmente as músicas são puro barulho.

  • To my dad! ... I never got a chance to say I'm sorry! :(

  • @RickSibbett Hi Rick, I don't know if you are a father yet? but I am, and let me say this. It would have eased the pain if you had managed to say those apologies to Dad, but as any father knows, with, or without you saying sorry to your Dad, he loved you just as much on his deathbed, as he did the day you were born. You can rest assured about that! God bless.

  • Hipsters.. :D

  • to my uncle in law (uncle guide) you are a star can't imagine how life and death is such a very very thin line between each other... i will dearly miss you and now am so worried about my daughter gandpa my ex father in law i do love my ex families dearly

  • JUST SAY. I LOVE you MY FAMILY while you and I LIVE.

  • It's a very sad song but it's very very good!

I think about my grandfather when i hear this song and when he passed away 2 years ago,the song is about a dad but I think about my grandfather anyway.

  • My father loved all 9 of his children. One day an argument erupted with his 5th son. A 20 year rift followed. It broke our mother's heart. Too many 'silent' years passed. The void between them continued with both not knowing how to bridge 20 years of silence. Dad became ill. We took turns to sit by his bedside. My brother sat tirelessly with him while he lay unconcious, 20 years of pain etched on his face. He rushed to the hospital one morning but our father had just died. It broke his heart.

  • This song came out around the time my father died, or at least that was when I first heard it, in September 1987. It made his loss all the more poignant and whenever I hear it, I think about him and I miss him.

  • r i p dad miss you

  • I played this at my dads funeral..everyone wondered where it came from..the oldest daughter xoxoxoxoxo i sometimes change it to wasn't there when my mother .. cause i wasn't but was for my dad made sure of it

  • If you love someone tell them now in THE LIVING YEARS because once they are gone they are "GONE"!!!!

  • @MrMegaFredzeppelin This song really hits home. There are a lot of things I wish I would have done differently. I've always taken my dad for granted. I could have been a better son. I wish I would have had the chance to say goodbye to my dad before he died 2 nights ago. I miss my dad :( He was a great father, a loving husband to my mom, a great provider, protector and an awesome friend.

R.I.P. Dad. I love you so much.

  • @1962drob Lucky you. I will not miss my father when he is worm food.

  • 36 people are crumpled bits of paper filled with imperfect thoughts.

  • I love you Pop. I'll see you when I cross that river.

  • While I listening to this melliferous verve,I feel like I was intrigued by the melody!I was utterly engaged and entranced into this copacetic masterpiece!I'm not a melodramatic guy,and my father's still living, but an ethos of infatuation just scrambles upward from my very abyss of psyche.I was moved absolutely!this euphonious song just captivated me and help me reminisce of my grandfather's death 7 years ago,and this track should also applies to them whatsoever.I nearly surrender myself into th

  • @nomiclas Thnx 4 ur comments!Ima actually an international student just arriving U.S.,and it was before long for the first time I listened to this pathetic track, quite adventitiouly,I down the first piece of music from server on TAP TAP GLEE on my iPhone.Previously I have been long supposed that TTR wouldn't release any serious music,I mean far-reaching one,but this just crumbled my all-too-easy inference. My pops and mama are now still living in China, back in willowwacks of my motherland.

  • @nomiclas As u may know that Chinese ppl are now to some degree overruled by an atrocious Communist Constitution Party, which leads gazillions of democracy warriors either be incarcerated behind slammers or even horrendously be decapitated predictated on the gallows of hegemony! My beloved parents,my magnanimous pops, and amiable mama,I pray in orison every morning along with the dawn for my folks. Now studing in the Pennsylvania State University,I sample assorted ambrosia in campus buffet.

  • I agree. I have a box of screws and nuts that I have since my pops passed away 20 years ago. It is right on my luthier bench so he is always where he loved to be. in the garage working with his kids.

  • If you love someone tell them now while you can in the "LIVING YEARS"!!!!!!!

  • everytime i hear this song,it reminds the day my son was born cause i fell pregnant about the time my father passed away(re-carnation in every way).after they cleaned him up,they lay him on my stomach on hes stomach & he picked hes head up & looked straight at me but i seen my father in hes eyes,it was a overwhelming feeling.that was in july 1987 & every time i think or look at my son i always see my father.. :D

  • hey dad i think of you every time i hear this amazing song

miss you every single day,see you in heaven daddy

  • farewell gramps. i will miss you so much. I was so lucky that God gave you to me to be my grandad. Be at peace.

  • I think this is one of the most poignant songs ever written, without being melodramatic or slushy.

  • Song was written by BA Robertson and it's a song about his dad before he died.

  • i NEVER leave any of my family without saying 'i love you'...even if they tire of hearing it....there comes be a point at which there will be no tomorrow, no other chance, and for me...no regrets. hope you can say the same...it makes life much easier

  • @6rings6 .......hahahahahaha!!!

  • what a gift Paul Carrack's voice is!

  • When I was 10...I remember running off the school bus...beautiful fall day in Ohio...leaves crumbled under my feet...racing around the corner...up toward my house...picked up the phone to call my Dad...my Mom grabbed the phone and told me "your Dad died, Brian"..."he's gone"...I saw the pain in her face...the immense sorrow...I think back to that moment...every day...now at the age of 47...the pain of his suicide lingers...but I cherished the time I had with him and miss him every day.

  • @6rings6 -- so sorry for your loss...i can't even imagine...peace...

  • IF YOU "LOVE" SOMEONE TELL THEM IN THE LIVING YEARS BECAUSE ONCE THEY ARE GONE THEY ARE GONE!!!!!!!

  • So sad. So true. Great song.

  • Thank you very much for this piece. I love it on many levels.

  • I pity the 33 people who didn't have a Daddy that they didn't love anywhere as dearly as the 1,486 others (including myself) who LOVED their Daddy & miss him so very much..

what I wouldn't give to be able to tell mine Happy Father's Day today. :(

  • "It's too late when we died..". Pa' va por los dos. Donde quiera que estes que dios te bendiga

  • For my Dad... I Miss him...I Loved him...I Wish I could have told him...In The Living Years.

  • my grandad song and who dislike it need help !!!!!!

  • I just lost my mum may 15th of this year.. This wednesday will be one month.. It still hasn't really hit me.. but this really hit me. I've always loved this song and group, it takes on a deeper meaning when it really applies to you. Hugs to those who have stated similar sentiments and are going through hard times too! RIP Mum

  • classic .....tear jerker ......

    Great song !

  • @PhilFan94 I love him.. and Phil Collins.. They're both so Smooooove!

  • 30 people have no soul........

  • miss you dad x

  • Great performance of a beautiful song.

The singing was perfect, the sound awesome, the music wonderful and the drummer is a fierce animal with a raging talent! WOW! I lost me Dad in March. I was with him. I knew this song. I said what I needed to say, so did he. When he passes it was in peace. Great song, grateful fan.

  • when the big man says hello if you been good this will be playing i love ya mum x

  • MIKE AND THE MECHANICS/Living Years

    会場との一体感が、この歌の素晴らしさを如実に語っている。…落涙。

  • Damn this song it hurts. Sorry Dad for not being as close a son as I should've. It's been 16 years since you left us in this life. Now I understand why they say that when it's too late, it's too late. So much regrets. So much I haven't shared with you. I pray that this be a lesson for me with my son. RIP Dad.

  • @buffet62 gotta let some stuff go........trust me.

  • @buffet62

i feel the same way about my l8 grandmother.

this song just has a habit of bringing out buried emotions.

  • @buffet62 Dude this song chokes me and my dad is alive, your comment chokes me too. sorry for your loss

  • @buffet Then again sometimes a dad has fucked up too many times has paid drips of respect way too late to make difference. Life is crap and then you die is a good foundation, everything else is gravy. Regardless it is a lesson for you and probably never me but for your son. Just tell him about girls.

  • @buffet62

Yes, my Dad loved this band. My Dad suffered from some severe strokes when he was, well, my age now but for 2 years. He dies some years later and in all those intervening years he was like a child, he could not speak to me properly and terrible to say nor me to him. All the frustration of him not understanding or be being to answer back. I am crying now as I recall it. Damn I both love and hate this song.

  • awful!!

  • When this song first came out I could barely listen to it. My father just died and my brother was about to have his first of three sons.

    Pain.............. incredible.

  • To all you Rogers Mountaineers alumni, Auburn Tigers fans, and Carolina Panthers fans (like myself): This was the #1 song in the USA when Lee Ziemba came into the world (March 29, 1989).

  • Say it while you can life passe s so quickly.Dont be haunted by the worfs you should have said

  • 16 years ago today at 11.50am a light went out in my life when my lovely dad died. I think about him every hour of every day. He was loved by everyone but especially by me. Love you dad.

  • i love this song and so do my little baby boy and i know in my heart that it will be just as easy to tell him that i love him now as it will be when hes older

  • Mike Mike and ........... All I need is a Miracle..... so these things impressed and changed my life. I love all of the artists that so talented express our human conditions which makes us all so much the same, and they sing a voice of words we can't explain.

  • @basicdata Very nice said, just feeling extactly the same!

  • i missed some good years with my dad, for he was sick towards the end and could not speak to me, but he knew he was loved and i guess that's all that mattered.

  • If you love someone say it now,say it loud, say it clear because once they are gone, they are GONE,PLEASE tell them IN THE LIVING YEARS!!!!!!

  • @MrMegaFredzeppelin I agree with myself!!!

  • love Paul Carrack!!!!

  • For my brother,Bill,RIP Mate.

  • I have some crumpled pieces of paper on which my Dad had written some mechanical "calculations", mower engine part numbers etc.

I smile everytime I look at them.

  • This song played on the radio while I was on my way home from the hospital, having just learned that my Dad would not be leaving, he died 3 days later. He was more than my father, he was my best friend! He did know that I loved him, thank God that I did at least that correctly

  • Note to self, buy anything but Propel water since I can't watch a video without their ads.....

  • hope hes stays frontman for them

  • one of my favorite songs! It is so true I just wish my family would realize it. I know they felt it when my father passed and they will feel it when my mom goes.

  • this song is precious!!!!!!!!

  • this song is fabulosaa!!!!!!!!

  • This song is easy to write off. Until you lose someone you love. Then you hear it like breaking through the clouds into clear sky.

  • @bigseer So true. I would add that even more is the pain of not sharing the love and grace of Jesus with your fellow man while we have a chance....it's too late after they leave earth. This past year I had two go, without me being straight about the gospel of Christ. Blessings to those who are hurting for family and friends who have passed on. You can't change the past, but you honor them by loving those you who are still with us now.

  • Great voice.

  • sometimes you can say the words and sometimes that person ignores and rejects you but at least you told the how you feel

  • The battle is an eternal one; gun barrel to the temple or boot heel upon the heart, loss and pain will visit all of us.

What is/are in your spiritual sheds and barns will determine how long a survival you have...

  • I liked this song since listened it for first time and I got the point or advice because what is important is to say not only that you may not understand or agree with others especially ur love ones, but there is still love inside you for them, in that way u will feel some relief when that person pass away, oh! and say it no matter if that person don't get it, just say it and say it loud : ) Blessings

  • Pure class

  • Mike Rutherford is a genius and Paul Carrack one of the best , but in the US, most under rated singers of my generation. Thank you for this post.

  • This is for my dad who passed away a few years ago, I love you Dad with all of my heart. xxxTomxxx I miss you.

  • Fills me with guilt, despite this it's one of my all time favourites... One of those voices that doesn't need the band...

  • This song became a lot more meaningfull to me since my father departed from amongst us.

  • The lead singers voice is amazing. I remember this song from my younger days,it brings back fond memories :)

  • Children bring out the best (and sometimes, the worst) in us... more so if they're ours! I've grown with my "babies" and in some ways, they've out-grown me. Well, each generation either builds on the last or else "blames the one before".

  • Upon hearing this song on my car radio one morning on my way to work, I pulled my car over and listened carefully to the words... I sobbed when it played once again... Both paents are gone now as well as 2 siblings and the the emptiness our family feels is immeasurable. This song and its lyrics touch everyone who has a "heart". Thank you for posting! "D"

  • makes me remember My Dad (R.I.P. 2008)

  • Another 26 idiots

  • Saw them live in 2004 as the act before Phil Collins solo. Paul Carrack is a fantastic singer (not easy at al when the fantastic Phil Collins is up next!) and a great choice by Mike Rutherford, who takes backseat as a perfomer in his own band. Great guys - great music - great lyrics!

  • Beautiful. Always beautiful. Today, tomorrow, forever...beautiful.

  • It had a very deep meaning for me, still does, abt the time this songt came out, I was here with my Mum in S. Shields, and my Dad had gone one last time to see his family in Canada.

Sadly my cheeky Canadian Dad never came back, as he died over there, and Mum and I never knew about it as the telegram got delayed,in this song the words "I was`nt there that evening when my Father passed away, I never got to tell him all the words I longed to say ect. also he couldnt wait to see his grandson : /

  • Words cannot express how much it will hurt to have missed the chance. Problem is, it will be a life long pain seasoned with a heavy dose of regret.

    Very well put michelscooones.

  • Ouch... the words are so heartfelt

  • At the time I make this comment, 900,296 people have been moved by witnessing it on youtube. Thank you all.

  • @HIEMDALL2006, Take your ager and hatred somewhere else

  • r i p mam and dad xxxxxx

  • i wonder if the mechanics still fix mikes car for mates rates. bet theyre glad they had a trade to fall back on when the music dried up and lorraine kelly didnt want mike on good morning tv anymore.

  • If this song can't make you cry, your heart is stone !!!

  • yep good song

  • i luv the beat of this sng, sooo older then wats now.

  • I don't know who is singing.. but the way he sings makes him so fine...

  • @Starlitblond

Paul Carrack is singing. Born in England he's performed with various groups.

  • Crist was that cool!

  • Mr. Rutherford is the man!

  • My Father and I could work anything out when we talked about it, I held his hand as he drew his last breath, we are cut from the same cloth, but I Love this song anyway

  • There"s nothing we can do do because the Israelis are God"s chosen people may he have mercy on our souls

  • Totally agree with bobscottcav your comment is so true

Probably the most relevant song written in the past 30 years!

Mine and my dads favourate song was his and his dads too xxx

  • happy tears now

  • This song reminds me of how much i love my Dad. And I am glad he is still with me at 84 years young!

  • His voice reminds me of Joe Cocker.

  • He hasn't lost anything. Still a freakin badass on the mic after all these years.

  • im a lucky one i got to tell my dad i loved him in this lst years he was a great dad and im now 63 myself with kids of my own now.

  • great lead vocals...

  • let him know be 4 he dies.

  • I think this is a song that you can't get until it happens! But when you get there it will hurt like hell and sadly because of your loss you will feel and understand every word. So trust me, say it it loud and say and it clear because when it's too late it really is too late and there are no second chances x

  • @michelescoones aint that the truth.... you hit the nail on the head.

  • @michelescoones

you`re so true .. that`s exactly what happens when you loose someone!!!!

  • @michelescoones. My father was an alcoholic. I was 15 when he was killed in a head on collision between his little Ford Fairlane and a tractor trailer. My father was driving on the wrong side of the road. I loved him very much and we were very close, but I struggled with his drinkng addiction. This song says it all.
