  • retired now she has stopped singing which is probably just as well

  • THE WORDS OF A POET; But something's lost but something's gained in living every day

  • She is one of my favorite performers. She is in the class of barbara streisand, dolly parton, and celine dion. She is one of the most talented singers in the known world. It was written somewhere , she has 3 1/2 octaves of vocal range. I dont know for certain, but i dont doubt it.

  • Wonderful - from a time when music was produced by serious musicians! Does anyone by any chance listen to The Golden Years on Saturday mornings on the digital station peterborough fm com? The presenter was playing this this morning - so great to hear someone playing lovely old melodies and not the same old stuff many oldies stations churn out repeatedly. Love both this and the station too.

  • was one of our music appreciation songs when i was in 7th grade,ty mr mantz, you were a good teacher,i fell in love with true music in those days.have won alot of pizza, too, lol

  • I just love this song.......

  • fantastic... it maybe the best version of this Joni's song

  • this is a happy song and sad song all in one

  • Yes, some of these old songs really take you back...beautiful! I was in Junior High for this one.

  • What, no more Judy. I think I have a copy off everything she sang. All the artists of her time sang each others sons. Each put their own personality on them, that's not really copying.

  • I recall an asshole dean in my seminary when I hear this song. God, he was a pompous prispot.

  • This song just came in my head this morning. Thank you Google and Youtube for helping me find it. Joni's original is nice, but this is majestic. Thank you so much.

  • You're very welcome, estilkind-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^o^)/

  • @estilkind look at version by Hayley Westenra ...she is one of the best singers ever, if you don't know her you will be suprised...grat singer, great man...

but yes this is also nice... :-)

  • One of the few renditions where a massive singer's ego doesn't get in the way of shared emotion. If only it had been slower paced and less obviously "pop" oriented. The young Judy Collins had uniquely, beautiful, warm and honest voice. Without all the showy frills of the period "stars" performances. Streisand, Bassey, et al, never held a candle to Collin's wonderful purity and expression. They all sound so completely frivolous. arrogant and artificial in comparison. Clowns, if you like.

  • Totally unexpected.......I just was going to listen to a good oldie. But now I find myself crying like a baby. What's going on?

  • thank you!...I'd nearly forgotten...what wonderful music we grew up with...still makes me cry

  • You're welcome, indyann-san!!

    Otaku3 (^o^)/

  • @indyann She beats the hell out of Lady GaGa.

  • @truthfromtheword Lady who !!!!!!!

  • Beautiful voice. God love the hippies. We are still right.

  • Lately I have Judy Collins on my mind as she is going to be performing in Bremerton WA on Stage This January 27, 2012. You can get tickets for on her website, they only cost $5.00. I plan on going. Shaun Thomas

  • Superb! Love it! :)

  • GREATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Such a great version..:)

  • what a pretty song...I was only 2yrs old when it was popular...Still is timeless...

  • Long after I am dead and buried ,this song shall be listened to for generations to come. One could pay $.69 .I would pay alot more for that for immortality. If I had any talent.

  • Pretty song.

  • This song is .69 cents on iTunes..YaY!!!

  • When I used to listen to that song I was young and the world was full of promises. Where did that time go...

  • Wow, You are full of Surprises, Keep these Oldies Coming! :)

  • Thank you PikesPeakOcean-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^o^)/

  • nice song, 1967 song of great singers... maganda nakakagaan ng loob kahit maraming kabigatan sa buhay

  • Very pretty song. Good old hippie time with soft rock evolving like this. You can't beat this. If someone asked me how soft rock started, Id put this on...

  • My father took two cassette tapes to Vietnam with him in 1969...one was of classical music, the other was this. He played the hell out of both. In the late 90s, Judy Collins played a concert at my university, and I was able to take my parents to see her. Wonderful show, and afterwards, I got her autograph for my father on the program. First time I ever saw my dad cry.

  • cant think of a better wedding song...just beautiful

  • オタク - サン、

Are you in Japan? I'm in Osaka myself...

I just bought a UK original of this record today because of your post...

a little pricey but worth it!

    Happy holidays and thanks again!!

  • once a professional nice girl now she is just too old

  • One of the best songs ever.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • My Wife picked this for our wedding song. The band couldn't play it so, the record was put through the speaker system in the hall. That meant that played all through the church not just for us. :-). Haha, that was 41= years ago.

  • Love this song~~~

  • Pretty lady. great song. great voice

  • Sweet Judy blue eyes:)

  • The Bach I hear is "Jesu, joy of Man's Desiring"...not the Ave Maria. It's mostly in the background music that accompanies the vocal part.

  • How come this song always touches me emotionally?

  • I like Judy, but she just can't sing this song like Joni. When Joni sings it I believe her, I feel it. Judy's version seems poppy, childlike in comparison.

  • great joni mitchell song with the words --- the are alot of good singers---- j collins high maintenance---- having worked in the h leventhal office of the 60's----

  • This version blows the doors off the Joni Mitchel version. Judy's voice is just amazing, and the arrangement is superb, especially the little harpischord bits. Joni's version just seems watered down after hearing this.

  • @pistolpete308 As "Joni" wrote the song, and as she was never writing or recording music to make it to Casy Kasem's Top 40, I'd say your opinion is what 'seems watered down'...

  • THis the far superioir to any version..the single is different than the album.

  • Such a great song. So melodic...and so deep. Timeless song.

  • my parents always used to play this version

  • God how I miss the simplicity and innocennce of the 60s i am saddened that the youth of today will never know what it was like to be able to trust so easily.I iss those days :(

  • @AMELIA6659

Well, they will by wathcing YouTube. THAT, my friend is the magic of this, introducing today's kids who just MIGHT stumble across this..regarding this verison, the final refrain IS different form the one I have: Judy sings here "from give and take", rather than"from win and lose'.

  • Some have noted a resemblance between this tune and an Ave Maria by Bach. I don't hear it myself.

  • Thank you for letting me know, rwexelblat-san!!

    Otaku3 (^o^)/

  • This arrangement was made by Joshua Rifkin, who is one of the foremost Bach scholars in the field of musicology, and renowned conductor of historically-informed Bach performances. He also created the "Baroque Beatles" album.

  • There´s some BACH in this.

    Or am I wrong?

  • What part is the melody resembling a Bach piece on this song?

I want to know about it.

    Otaku3 (^_^;)

  • @60otaku3 I believe it's one of his so-called "inventions." Possibly the 13th. Search for: bach invention 13

  • Thank you Metzae-san!!

I make sure of it later.

    Otaku3 (^o^)/

  • @souzabluesplayer what do u mean ?

  • ...but something's lost and something's gained in living everyday.

  • This is my earliest musical memory! I am convinced I can remember this song playing out of a leather-bound transistor radio in our living room when I was 2 or 3 years of age, 1969 or 1970.

  • go JUDY.always love this song

  • very nice.. no disrespect meant, but way better than the original by joni mitchell

  • @pmathew27 Actually this version is the first recorded version from that song. Mitchell recorded it in 1969.

  • @pmathew27 joni's version from the miles of aisles live album is much better than this; it is introspective. The harpsichord is very annoying and the drummer pounding at 2:35 is irksome. This version would be helpful for anyone trying to memorize the words, because it races thru the song.

  • @pmathew27 Joni wrote the song but Judy was the first to make a commercial recording of it in 1968

  • @pmathew27 no disrespect meant ,but Joni wrote the song and i love her version more because she meant every lyric and produced the sound plus more heartfelt ,,Judy just copied and helped by freinds ..Joni is the Author and still the best ,,send complaints to Anderson Cooper,

  • just such a pure beautiful melody with great lyrics

  • I've always loved this song. What an incredible voice! <3

  • thankyou so much..surprised I remember all the words...beautifull song!!

  • You're very welcome, julesra1-san!!

  • Love this song and the album cover looks so wonderful.

  • we sung this in chorus

  • This is the original. I remember this song came out when I was four years old and it still has impact. One of my favorite songs from the 1960s!

  • You're welcome, 11jamesearl-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^_^)v

  • She looks like she could either pass as a sister, or cousin of Barbara Streisand. :)

  • I met Judy at the Philadelphia Childrens Hospital last year during my surgery

  • Written by Joni Mitchell

    - Caroline <3

  • Oneof those songs for the ages!!! It "never" wears out!!!!! In PEACE and LOVE!!! Sonny

  • I was so lucky to see & meet Judy last night at a book signing for her new book & CD at a book store in La Verne, Calif. She spoke about her life, her marriage & of Stephen Stills who was her boyfriend in the 1960's. She sang a little bit (without guitar) (this song) & a few others. Her voice is still beautiful! Bought her new book & CD & had a chance to talk to her for a few minutes & she signed them. A lof of people there so couldn't talk too long but she was so nice; very sweet lady!

  • Thank You......

  • the 60's produced such beautiful songs. eternal

  • what a hottie

  • Thank you. I’m glad that listen to this song again.

When I had a corner in radio program of MBS, I chosen this tune as theme song of opening. It was my favorite in those days.

  • My life.

  • I was visiting my mom and dad the other day and this song came on the radio at their home. It brought tears to my eyes. My mom saw me, smiled and said, When you were a baby we had to turn the radio off when this song came on or you would start crying until the song was over. 44 years later this song still tears me up.

  • great song

  • I cry when I hear this. Heard it when I was 6 and started singing it to my dad ever since. He also loves it.

  • This is one of the first songs I heard in my life, talk about bringing you back. Glad my mother played it.

  • A true classic from November 1968 I was in the 5th grade .The original single version is now available on the The very Best of Judy Collins, Released in 2002. If you haven't checked it out it sounds great. You will notice the difference in the vocals.

  • I love Judy Collins but the more I see of Lady Gaga the more I like what she is doing.

  • @laejnaek The only difference between the two is Lady Gaga will fade away and never to be heard of again!

  • @mrclubfoot100 Lady Gaga is a performing artist activist. She's been around for awhile and she's getting stronger. Time will tell.

  • @laejnaek Why is it that Lady Gaga reminds some of us-with an appreciation for music - of a young Phyllis Diller.?Nothing against Diller. She did what she did best: - comedy. She was under no illusions@ winning massive amounts of Grammys' !

  • very well

  • a introspective, touching song..life is short.. we all are disappointed -eventually...

  • @SuperJohnnyjoe I think this is a great, insightful comment of this classic by Joni Mitchell. Listen to the YouTube vid from 1966 of Joni singing at the "2nd Fret" where she cites the book she was reading and the quote about the both sides of a cloud that inspired her developing the idea and composing this song. Judy Blue Eyes, certainly great but, aah, Joni and her beautiful poet's creative soul!

  • One word. CLASSIC.!!!!

  • one of my favorite songs which had accompany me in my struggle lone time....

  • I love Joni Mitchell and this is her best song. Judy has an amazing recording of this song. Just a quick something... it was commericially released in 1968 by Judy. It was written by Joni in 1967 and her recording was released in 1969.

  • well this bought a teardrop. thanx

  • You're welcome, wingman572-san!!

    Otaku3 (^o^)/

  • @wingman572 Didn't it though? Fifty years ago it brought aspirations. Now it brings regrets :) I've looked at life from both sides now...

  • Reminds of being in 6 yrs old, waiting for dinner and my mom playing this on the turntable. Awesome

  • @chillichomper I have a very similar connection with this song! My mom used to play this song on tape in the kitchen while cooking and doing laundry. Brings back great memories. :-)

  • Still love this song ....

  • The096757,

    I deleted your comment.

Please do not post the comment to criticize the specific singer here.

    60otaku3

  • @60otaku3

i did not criticize judy collins at all. you either didn't understand my comment right or didn't like that i criticized some other person.

  • I think I heard this song for the first time in about 1978. I didn't know it was an older song. Funny, it always cheers me up and makes me smile.

  • @taffy2003

yeah i too heard this song during the late 1970s when disco ruled but knew it was a retro song that was over 10 years old at the time and that was SO OLD back then. lol

i think i probably heard this as a very young child and i still like it now and also did during the late 70s when i was very congnizant of the music around me. no one is stopping this from being heard except radio programmers who play black '60s music all the time.

  • thanks for posting such an awesome classic folk song.

    楽しんで頂けたようで嬉しく思います。

  • @sidDkid87 Don't group Lady Gaga and Britney Spears together, one is about 794 times more talented than the other. If you don't know which is which, listen to them and you'll figure it out.

  • thanks for a beautiful video

  • You're welcome, 11sombrita-san!!

  • this music is so pure, I love it!!!

  • Much better than Joni, who always sounds pre menstrual.

  • Comment removed

  • Nicely done. I am sure the royalties from this cover kept Joni in cigarettes for some time.

  • @serundipity, A little too overproduced but your right!

  • I think the copyright royalty of this song became the respectable sum ever.

    Otaku3 (^_^;)

  • songs back then on the most part had great lyrics...with intelligent messages..whether it be love...politics...life...or views...and as far as bickering on here...im in here to enjoy great music...not critique....

  • I practically wore this single out as a kid.

  • beautiful. just simply beautiful

  • Well, not to pee on everyone's corn flakes, but in this song you can already hear the SERIOUS vocal problems Collins developed later on. She has such a charming voice, but she is already wandering off pitch.

  • @davidhalldurham Yes, and Clapton flubs something on Crossroads. Would this be better with an auto-tune?

  • @grimmpoxer No one's suggesting autotune. The fact is, Collins has had vocal problems over much of her career and they're clearly audible even here, relatively early in her career. The solution isn't software. The solution is good vocal technique.

  • @davidhalldurham Thats insane and just lookin to talk and seem like you know a lot, please shush!

  • @davidhalldurham My point is that, warts and all, this is a spectacular piece of music. If anything, the human imperfection makes it better.

  • The Sweet Judy Blue Eyes!

  • well here's the BEST version ...... :)

  • Another great song, wow, she is beautiful. Thank you for posting this beautiful song.

  • You're welcome, cedeshazer-san!!

  • 1967 Was Such A Sad Time In My Life...

I Still Realy Don't Know Life At All.

  • This is a true classic

  • I have tried hard....to like today´s music.....honestly. I gave up. (too few exceptions)

    I LOVE THIS SONG

  • I heard this a lot as a little toddler .... Spooky cool :J

  • My GOD she's beautiful!

  • This is the singer and the song that changed my whole life, I hope I can meet Ms Collins someday and tell her about that before I die.

I love every albums of Ms Collins, but "Wildflowers" is the most important, it means so much to me...

  • BEAUTIFUL SONG.

  • A place in time that society forgot . . . . when music was cool, groovy & innocent and lyrics were clean and people were pure and unspoiled . . . unlike today ~ how they serve our kids a bunch of FILTH where lyrics of gang-sta rap & hip hop- are full of profanity, recording artists are horny sexual beings portrayed in videos & pop stars are admired for getting into hot water with the law - WHAT kind of CRAPis that ??? Just another example of the deterioration of the very fabric that holds us up.

  • I was in the Semnary(1957-1965) and remember well this music and the introduction of STEREO in the early sixties! They were good days, but I'm happier than ever now in the 21st Century...and that's not because of today's music necessarily! A retired Catholic priest.

  • these have got to be some of the most incredible lyrics ever written...if u don't feel something, you just don't really get it.

  • Beautiful range and Vibrato. One of the best vocalists I've ever heard.
