Okay, it doesn't matter if you can play 20000 octaves above or below anybody else. If the player has great tone and articulation then a 3 octave range is perfectly acceptable.
@PegacornLvr The 4th valve is to allow the tuba to play lower notes and better in tune on the low notes. The fourth valve us usually used instead of 1&3 and can be tuned slightly flatter so the low notes are in tune.
i can actually do a lot better than you considering im in 8th grade atm i go pedal Bbflat to the top of my fingering chart "high-as-hell Bbflat :D im kinda of a pridigy to all my classmate :Dplaying grade 1's reading out of vladislav blaziviech books well /we

You have no idea how to play the tuba! Complete amateur, you embourchure doesn't even change for your lower playing hence the tuning! Stop teaching and putting these videos on here, your harming the tuba race!
Seriously????? He sucks all around and then tries to show off range and can barely squeak out that note??? I'm in eighth grade and I've been playing since I was in sixth, alot people tell me my range is insane but I never beleived them, now I do because I can play a note easily that he can barely hit.
@Yoyocita2 Do you know how much air it takes to play low notes? Not to mention pushing the air through that huge bore of a Tuba. His sound may not be at its best at times and that could be because the camera quality isn't all that great. If you ever played a low brass instrument. You should know exactly what I'm talking about.
this guys pisses me off. he knows nothing about tubas and he plays like an amateur. i mean what the hell, he is an "expert" and he breath attacks every single note, not to mention blatting them constantly.
A tubist at any colegiant level should be able to hit the C above middle
C on the piano. And if any of you guys had an ear at all you would realize that he didnt even hit the pedal C, he was more than a half step off and the was more that a whole step from the double C. Please refrain from talking about someones range if you cant hear that he did not even come close to hitting the right pitch.
I've been playing on an Eb since the start of 2006, i'm guessing this guy has been playing for a bit longer. However, my range is from a pedal C to and F above middle. Isn't that hard really
ok first of all a tuba player is supposed to be able to reach at least 6 to 7 octaves... i am a 3rd year player and have a 4 almost 5 octave range.. from a pedal Ab up to a double high F sometimes G and sometimes A so that is about 5 octaves.
Before bragging about yourself you should check up on some facts. First of all, you said that a tuba player is supposed to be able to reach "at least" 6 to 7 octaves. Do you realize that a PIANO can only play about 7 and 1/2 octaves? 6 to 7 octaves on a tuba is already impractical, and you said AT LEAST 6 to 7 octaves.
Second of all, if you can play from pedal Ab to around the high Ab above the bass clef (which is great, don't get me wrong), then that would be 4 octaves, not 5.
srry if i offened anybody. i wasnt bragging im just being practical... i learned at a master class from Mr. Stein a tuba professor somewhere and he said a tuba is expected to have between 5 to 6 maybe 7 octaves... he has 7 octaves... he's a really good tuba player.. and i think oystien baadsvisk has a 7 octave range if you've you heard is czardas and fnugg blue his range is amazing... i didn't mean to sound impractical, i think he said at most 5-7 octaves sometimes 8
The man's got a Yamaha 621 - a tiny tuba easy to play high. Look at his face: hilarious, why make that facial expression when he plays high? If it's too high for him to play comfortably maybe he should refrain from "teaching" people how to play the tuba" online.
Tuba isn't supposed to play that high? NO, it's HIM who is not supposed to play that high publicly. Listen to Patrick Sheridan. Tuba can be high and beautiful. My previous comment stands.
i've been playing tube for less that 1 year and i can hit the triple F why dont they pay me to do this?
