He uses distortion and a pitch shifter when he doesn't feel like screaming. He can barely scream without them unless he's really trying. I've met the dude, too, and I scream like this, too, so I know what I'm talking about.
Honestly, I don't need any of that stuff. I mean, I can scream the entire Crwn album without a mic+effects and be good with just the occasional sip of water in between phrases and be totally fine. Maybe I'm just used to screaming without a mic at all... I'm so good at breaking mics, I haven't had one since like August xD
If his voice was being made by the computer, then it would be perfect. You can easily tell that it's not perfect, as the song would be in studio. Sometimes he cuts off early to catch his breath, or doesn't do the echo effect on the growl.
You don't hear Corpsegrinder from Cannibal Corpse using a voice distorter, do you?
corpsegrinder is twice the size of nero ! plus even he's admitted his vocals hurt at time's and a more electronic scream suits this kidna music better :)

I use the same thing for my project. Your voice still comes through. Many people think this setup replaces screaming ability. It DOES NOT. :) If he just talked into it you'd realize how little it does.
He must have some octave applied to his mic, no way is his real voice. Tell you what, if you unplugged that laptop all but the drums would stop. I'm sorry but on Crwn, I can't distinguish any sounds done by the bass/guitar. We The Fallen however I can. Psyclon Nine is all done on that laptop me thinks. xD

Crwn is deemed "lesser" because it is the taking a transition from Aggrotech to Industrial-Metal. But in my opinion, big changes are for the best at certain points in a career.
