  • It's not tuned properly. My Carter on my Grand Wagoneer runs real sweet.

  • i got rid of mine, i got a used 34 dgec weber/solex, had to buy smaller jets. but it works perfect.

  • unless the throttle shaft is worn i have always gotten the BBDs to run damn good...

all of which you don't have to take the carb off the intake to do, either...

  • the jets get clogged very easy on these carbs, VERY easy

  • after 2 carters and 1 webber i put the motorcraft 2100..can't beat it..unless you want to spend 1000 dollars for the chevy 4.3l fuel injection kit u can buy new for this engine

  • i see your problem i have a AMC eagle with a carter carb you dont have the back of the carb hooked up

  • Its a feedback carb what do you expect?? Lol those are such junk. Find you and 2bbl or 1bbl carter if you want and put it on there. the only problem is you'll have to get a vac dizzy other wise the timming will be WAY off.

  • i just bought a 85 cj7 w 72k original miles .. the PO included a carb kit and a manual choke kit... told me to have it all installed by winter... my jeep stalls at the worst times poss... and stop signs and especially when hot. i have read about loose mounting bolts bad gaskets, etc. im thinking about buying a weber. i cant imagine ever putting Ford parts (motorcraft) on my baby... dont believe in rebuilding carbs. what do you guys think?

  • this carb isn't bad at all!

people don't know to adjust it right, get it cloged with unfiltered pcv system and crappy air filter systems.

i run my 258 with this carb for over 10 years. it's my daily driver. every weekend i go offroad. no problems (exept for extreme work angles).

  • that carb is a POS compared to the weber that i put on it...i works fine but the weber had more power and overall is much better

  • that carbs float isn't working right and ur fuel pump has toooooo much power for a carb

  • @bobbert350 I agree one hundred percent with you man, My single barrel carter carb was the biggest piece of crap with the internal adjusters, I now am running a 2 barrel weber and it is soooo much better; And I just added a new exhaust with a mandrel bent, stainless steel 2'1/4''pipe with a single chamber flowmaster which gave it a little more thorque.

  • @eranohad

amen - didn't have a problem with mine on my 258 - got 21MPG on top of it, even with 33s and stock (3.31) gears.

  • @evulution1337 omg i get 9 mpg with mine...please help

  • @motoxchamp321

send me a msg on here, i'll send you some links.

  • plugged idle air bleeds--a really commom, annoying problem. Pull out the venturi cluster and suck 'em clean. There might be crud in the bowl, too.

  • i have a webber in there

  • Swap that carb for the MotorCraft 2100. One of the best upgrades you can do for the 258.
