If you dont want people coming to your town you should buy land in the mountains and stay away from where people come to spend money and have a good time. Cant stand people who live in ski towns and dont like people who come spend money and support the town. If you dont like it, move somewhere else.
Look around you - the United States is the 3rd most populated country on Earth. It's time for everyone, including those living in small ski towns, to stand up and take a stand against population increases wherever they take place. Because, in the end, overpopulation robs all of us of our freedom and quality of life...
You know, the town itself is still a world class location. Just drive out 5 minutes, get on a trail to hike or Mt. Bike (not saying which one so tourists will stay off it) and your totally out in paradise.
Well pal if it were not for the skiers here than the mining companys would own the whole area and let me tell you the little bit of damage the resort has done would never compare to the mining damage the will last for ever. if the resort closed the mt. would heal in a few years, if the miners had there way it would never look nice again. your opinion sucks!
Wouldn't it be nice if humans could simply leave huge, large tracks of land and water alone? No mines, no ski resorts, no airports, no shopping malls - the true paradise this planet was meant to be for all living things!
@zeekzilch it sure would! proplem is there are too damn many humans. next time your out that way check out lake city. the most roadless county in the country, though it does have some abandon and some active mines there not eyesores. it's also one of the biggest county's and there are only 700 people in that county, I shouldn't be telling you about it, the people there consider it to be on of the best kept secrets in the country. so do I. don't tell any one I sent you.
How many small towns in the mountains of Colorado exist without the "marred hillsides" of a ski resort? Very few, I suspect. The town of Crested Butte would neither be picturesque nor nice to visit, and very possibly would no longer exist without skiing. While I neither enjoy nor promote massive hordes of people invading these beautiful little towns for the resort life, I still have to respect the sources of their being.
I love Colorado and have lived here almost 40 years. Nevertheless, it's clear that ski resorts, shopping malls, marble mining, freeways, airports, public lands cattle grazing, and a host of other economic activities have taken their toll on our beautiful state.
It's good that you're thankful to live in Crested Butte. But, you should also do everything you can to stop the sprawl, congestion, and madness that comes to most Colorado towns. Don't let them build anything else in your town, ever again.
No ski resort - no Crested Butte.

dont visit our town if you dont like the skiers

I like the skiers. However, I don't like what they've done to our mountains.

Ive been in Crested Butte for seven years. It probably wouldnt even be a town if it wasant for the ski resort and I dont ski.

@linkbelt225
North America could use a few less towns and cities. There are now over 300,000,000 of "us" and we're ruining the natural world.

@zeekzilch that sounds like what the front range has become...strip malls, freeways and too many people. I'm thankful for living in the Butte.

Reduce its numbers, through "attrition," to a total of one half billion world-wide.
