  • where is the part that teaches you how to deal with the Med Seekers and the homeless and the bullshit patients and the system abusers???

  • I'm doing either this or going active Army after college. My undergrad Bio degree will be useless.

  • @guitarhamster102 I was a bio major as well, and I thought the same thing... I work in a totally different field but I learned that a degree is never useless, regardless of major.

  • Can I be an emt if I am red green colorblind?

  • Neeka (or whatever her name is) is damn cute! lol

  • im in high school and ive been intersted to be an EMT! i just want to know whats the best school to go to be a profesional paremedic in southeren california???my neighborhood is always surrounded with ambulances and police officers, and i once saw a man getting ranned over and i was helpless seeing this guy on the floor, but thankfully paremedics are always there, thats why i want to choose this career it motivates and inspires me alot ! i bet its hard to keep up with this job but also enjoy it !:)

  • @DINA3105 if you are in the LA or sanfernando valley are. Los Angeles Valley College(LAVC) has a great program with great instructors. They also teach the course at college of the canyons, UCLA, and I think at santa monica city college, some places in pasedena and those are all the ones i know of. Im currently in my last month of training at LAVC

  • This career has always interested me. During my life I have come into contact with many EMT's and paramedics wether for myself or family members and they always treated not just the problem but they were also sincere in making sure you were doing okay and responding and would listen to what you say.

  • After being an army combat medic I'm goin for this

  • @Rangerleadtheway44 Do you know that 68W are only EMT-B? You have to go back to school to be EMT-I or EMT-P

  • woooooooo shift work ftw!!!!!!! $5,000 a month for 8 days worth of work hahaha

  • k i dont get this 24/48 ?? you are saying you work 1 day a month ??? plz explain anyone

  • @jalen77232 24 hours on, 48 hours off

  • @jalen77232 A 24/48 refers to a type of ambulance schedule that our crews work in certain areas.

Employees are scheduled to work a 24 hr shift then are scheduled off for 48 hours and then the schedule repeats itself. Employees on this schedule work approximately 10 days a month.

  • @acadianopps is that a paramedic or a emt......iif o due you know the salary that people who work on a 24/48

  • @acadianopps 10 day's a month! I never looked at it that way!

So glad to be going to school as EMT-I is my goal I'm excited

  • wtb job at MFD plz!

  • I want an answer...an honest one...

Are paramedics able to handle living in a house paying for it n such and also

can they pay for everything else they need in life, etc???

  • @KiddRay808 Well to be completly honest the money isnt the best if your going to become a firefighter/emt dont expect to be able to go out and buy a brand new mustang but trust me the job is well worth it

  • @KiddRay808 I have been a Paramedic for 12 years. I work 24/48's. Starting out, the pay is not the best. $32,000/yr. The good thing is the turnover rate is huge because nobody wants to be a Paramedic for more than 2 or 3 years. Therefore, the longer you do it, the more you make with longevity pay. Now, with no overtime, (and their is always overtime) I make right at $50,000/yr. I also work construction on my days off just for something to do. So yes, I live comfortably as a medic.

  • @BigCat2279

    Cool lol

How are your living conditions? (as in house/vehicles)

Do medics get time for themselves for hobbies and such?

  • @KiddRay808 I am married with 2 small kids. Nice 1800 sq. foot ranch house, my wife drives an SUV and I drive a nice truck. We live in a newer subdivision. I work 24/48's so I work 1 day and have 2 days off. That leaves 20 days off a month for free time. I have no regrets, I enjoy it.

  • @KiddRay808 In the U.s, they are poorly paid. An average paramedic in the states probably earns 15k-40k. In canada, the pay ranges from 30k-100k.

  • i wanna be a Paramedic

  • i am a licenced EMT-I but i only volunteer with my local fire department, i don't actually work for an ambulance company or anything. the pay of a EMT is not that great here. thats why i am going for nursing instead.

  • this really makes me want to be a paramedic!!!

  • @youngdoctor444 Do you know what the pay is like?

  • @ComaBoy05 why does pay matter,i thought for being an paramedic or any type of medical professional that it wasnt for the money,or the thanks, you where just there to help people

  • @armymedic98 I'm just saying he should know everything about it before he jumps in, like the 72 hour shifts. Some people really want to do it but just can't handle it

  • @ComaBoy05 oh i thought you where mad about not getting paid as much as you should.sorry misunderstanding

  • Can you still be a paramedic even if you all tatted up?? I want to be a Paramedic but im sleeved out and i have some ink on my neck as well. Is the paramedic fiels strict about tattoos??

  • @Gthang817 depends on the company. there is no regulation on tats for the national registry.

  • @Gthang817 When you take the test to get your acutal license it wont matter but where you want to work it might matter.

  • A basic for 3 years? Does Lafayette have EMT-I's?

  • So right now, im 15 turning 16 and i really want to be a paramedic because i want to help people the the way paramedics have helped me,

is there like a ballpark average for a paramedic in the US salary? in AZ if it matter, it isnt about the money at all, im just curious.

should i start reading this human anatomy book now, so i have a basic understanding of anatomy before i graduate?

im just lookin for some help =)

  • Ive wanted to be a paramedic since i was 11. i am 15 now. it just seems like such an awesome job. i understand that there are a lot of sad and hard times with it, but i really wan tot do it. i cant see myself being anything else! im so excited to become a paramedic!

  • Hey I'm a Paramedic in Germany and wanna ask what is EMS Full ?? Emergency Medic ..... or what?

  • @Yigga09 Emergency Medical Services. Hello from the USA!

  • @chaabanman

Thanks ;) and Nice Greetings to USA !

  • @Yigga09 Emergency Medical Services

  • @YouMakeMeBeautiful15

Thanks ;) and Nice Greetings !

  • @Yigga09 NO PROBLEMO :)

  • @Yigga09 from what i understand, the scope of practice of paramedics in europe is similar to us in north america. skills such as endotracheal intubation, crichothyrotomy, chest decompression, defibrilation, syncronized cardioversion, iv/io access, and administration of drugs that address acute life threatening emergencies are the basically the same. some ems services can do more than others. btw

i lived in germany for 3 years on an army base for 3 years, i love germany and want to go back soon.

  • @m2inla Ahhh ok so now i learn the EMT so as Paramedic in Germany u are not Allowed to Give Medicaments i hope thats right;) and I'm not allowed to set endotracheal Intubation At the moment ;)

So Nice Greetings from Germany to USA !

  • @Yigga09 i dont think that is right, paramedics in Germany have a similar scope of practice as U.S. paramedics

  • correction will be open till June 1st

  • Hey guys the Chicago fire dept. list for paramedics just opened up and will be open till may 1st apply online at the Chicago fire dept. website must be paramedic by hire date

  • Difficult job but I born to be medic =D

  • I dont get how Paramedics/EMT get payed so low...why is that???

  • @KiddRay808 I dont know man. They get paid so low for what they do. And if they mess up just once, their career is over. I am currently taking an EMT class right now. This is the reason I am planning on becoming a Firefighter/Paramedic. The salary more than doubles!

  • @huhster783 Yep, As an EMT I made 11$ an hour to start doing transport.. Then as an EMT/FF I made 15-16

    Now as a FF/Para I make about 40k a year.

    Talk about double salary.

  • @ModeraterX thats pretty low man. You must work in a city where there isnt that heavy of a population. I hear that FF/Para make around 60k to start off in CA, Los Angeles.

  • @KiddRay808 ,because that's how things have been for a long time in EMS and the powers that be will keep it that way until EMS workers can make real changes in the industry. In short,it's because EMT's and Paramedics have no other choice to accept the low pay and don't stay in EMS long enough to make any real changes. This career field has a very high turn over rate because of the Low pay, long hours stress of the job.

  • @KiddRay808 they dont get paid THAT low....i mean in ontario, the average STARTING salary is around $60 000. and besides, if someone is a paramedic for the money, then they should probably get out...it works alot better if theyre in it for the chance to help people and because they like the job....

  • I am a Paramedic, been one for 18 years. I worked for Acadian out on an oil rig for a while. Had to stop working for them when the oil industry crashed. I have been working full time for the last 11 years at Fort Benning EMS, Fort Benning Ga. Love what i do. Stay safe out there all you first responders!

  • His best story was converting Asystole to "mild" PEA? Really?

Some of my best calls ended in a patient dying at the in the ER or ICU, but he should have had a story of a code that he converted to a perfusing, spontaneous rhythm.

im not trying to give the guy a hard time, as the video was heavily edited..

But in a moderate to high call volume service like mine, a good paramedic should restore a pulse on a cardiac arrest at least 2 to 5 times per year, on average.

  • @m2inla,It doesn't matter what service one works in,saving a full arrest is a very rare thing for anyone. Any medic can get a pulse back but 99% of the time that person is going to get pronounced at the ER . I have been working the road full time for 3 years with only one real full arrest save where the patient made a full recovery.

  • @i5adam8 i disagree. each time i have restored a pulse on a cardiac arrest, the ER continued to help this person into the icu, and hopefully towards a recovery.. if not they have the potential for organ donation.

what city do you work where the ER md's call a time of death return of pulse that ems obtained on a cardiac arrest in the er 99% of the time?

"walk out" arrests have more to do with rapid recognition, age, early defibrilation etc. witnessed arrests in hospitals have poor prognosis too

  • @i5adam8 in the spring of last year, me and my paramedic partner restored a pulse on an 86 year old man and transported him to the nearest hospital (0.3miles away) he walked out of the icu because we converted him to a perfusable rhythm.

  • @i5adam8 wow. im glad my family live in the city.

thanks acadian medic. you made my point for me.

  • id love to be a paramedic, but I feel like I ll be doing the same thing for 15 years with the same pay (unless I become a firefighter), thats why i'm going into nursing, I can change it up almost any way I want :)

  • @theknifekid A nurse needs orders to give ASA. I can cut a hole in somebodys neck to establish an airway before I talk to an ER physician. Just food for thought..

  • cool video this is what im tryin to get into school for

  • Hey i am an EMT!!!!!

  • @robstrevor LUCKY!!! i cant wait to get out of high school and college and startmy career!! im so excited! oh umm one question....what does the fitness test consist of....just wondering ...i want to start getting in shape for it...

  • @YouMakeMeBeautiful15 The fitness test for my company is easy, very few people fail. It consists of carrying a back and monitor through some cones, then climbing stairs with it up and down 3 times, then a gurney lift of 225 lbs, then 5 mins of just chest compressions, and 1 more gurney lift. the compressions stage is the most difficult believe it or not. lol

  • @robstrevor thank you so much! that will be very helpful!just gonna u know jot it down lol...how about the cardio endurance stuff tho?

  • @YouMakeMeBeautiful15 Im not sure how they test at you local companies but as for cardio endurance, the most you have to test for is exactly what i told you already. lol if you are in generally good shape, you should have no problem passing the physical test. Good luck!

  • @robstrevor thanks!

  • Swedish RN and NA here. It takes 3 years to be an RN in Sweden, then u have to work for at least a year and then study one more year to be an NA or a Paramedic. Paramedic specialist nurses achievs a one-year-masters degree during their specialist training.

Starting salary for a RN Paramedic is about €2.1k and for an NA €2.5k.

  • I'm starting the program soon, can't wait to be a part of this.

  • it would take 4 to 6 but the usual shortes one are for 2 years

  • I'm an EMT-Intermediate, and I love my job, even though we are ridiculously under paid, ha ha ha.

  • @Mylin8675 how much do u get paid? how long does it take to be emt-intermediate?

  • @09addc I don't know how to answer that. Here in Israel, it takes 1 year and a half OR two years, depends on the course you choose

  • @Zulu1380

I'm sorry to hear that man.

  • starting emt-b in jan hope it isn't a mistake. i'm very interested in it so i hope it's not.

  • @Zulu1380 what state do you work for??

  • Just about all EMT-B's and EMT-P's are underpaid, especially EMS in Illinois

  • im trying to get into school im just not sure what im supposed to do, do i just go to amr an do there classes, then if i do do there classes whats that mean, do i just go into the firls, if anyone can shed some light i would greatly greatly appreciate it, thanks guys

  • Man in the states the pay for Paramedics sucks... In Canada you have to go to University to be a Paramedic, as well as in Australia, And England... Here they make around 50 grand starting making up to 80-90 grand...

  • @havoc999998 The UK start salary for a paramedic is £29k, rising to £35k with additional training. The private services in the USA offer far higher wages in comparison.

  • It also is brutal on your body. Kiss your back goodbye.

  • @bigphreaking maybe thats just you.

  • @aguywithasniper After a career in the business, seeing many of my colleagues sustain those kinds of injuries as well as firefighters, it is common in this kind of work. If you ever have the chance to do it, in the big city, you will know as well.

  • Wow, Seth is hot. I'm currently working on becoming a nurse, want to go ambulance as soon as I can - after some hospital experience of course. Perhaps trauma team or mobile intensive care in a later stage. I'm an EMT volunteer already (Dutch Red Cross), which is where I got the taste for it.

  • They need more money!! Look.. He has to wear a shirt 2 sizes too small!

  • Emts rock!

  • can we get this man a bigger shirt?

  • I'm a registered nurse and now do full time ems as it pays better where I live, 70k+ without much overtime. From what I can gather, EMS is not given the respect it deserves in the US, compared with other western countries. In Australia it is one of the most trusted and respected professions, sometimes more so than medicine or nursing.

  • learn to the europe.

  • Yanackcim@Woodpipemaker

    Thx

i havent CPR by the American heart association, citizien of the US and so on can nothing help me :-( PLEASE

  • Kerethan you got that right. Not near the money or recognition we should have. I, at the age of 52, don't even know how I will ever retire.

  • Hello,

How can i work in NY to Paramedic, i live in Germany and my dream is work in NY for Paramedic, i hope they can help my and my english its not soo good, i hope i became the first steps. thx ;-)

  • @Yanackcim

Well I can't speak for NY paramedics but can give you info for Indiana requirements. You should take English and even some Spanish courses online since those are the most spoken in the US. English is defiantly required but you could get more money by speaking both. Good luck!

Must be a citizen of the US

    Must be 18

    Must have High School diploma

Must speak and write PERFECT fluent English.

    Must have drivers license.

Must be CPR certified by the American heart association.

  • @Yanackcim hey mir geht es ähnlich wie dir

ich will nur polizist in new york werden des

schwierigste an unserem unterfangen ist echt der citizienship of the usa also der amerikanische staatsbürgerschadt

    anyways good luck

  • @Yanackcim It might also help if you have NO Felony convictions....Good luck to you in your endeavor...

  • Mmkayy I shall check((:

  • Where are yew a emt in what state?? And ur a basic??

  • most emt b courses you have to be seventeen. im an emt. and if you want to become a medic, liek someone said previously be prepared to live and breathe ems. lots of people arent cut out for this job. studies show the average career lasts 4 years.

  • But how old do yew hav to be to take the emt-b course???

  • Most states require you to be 18 years old to become an EMT. You must hold an EMT license to become a Paramedic. It does very by state though, so check with your local Fire/EMS department, they'll know.

  • hi im 15 and i am looking into being a paramedic, because id like to have the oppurtunity to save and help peoples lives. i was wondering how much money they earn and is it worth it?

  • my uncle was a paramedic and he told me they make $32/h and you work 24 hours. But that most likely changed, but you still get an idea.

  • @Checkerdude2 Where the paramedics make $32/h I live in texas border from mexico and I an EMT and I make $13/h

  • @magh1981 i live in tx as well in fort worth do u know how much they make here im interested in going to school for emt then paramedic and who knows where else after that do you like your job i know it's frustrating but is it worth it i mean u do have a career that is important unlike a lot of other jobs out there

  • @auq21 I have a relative that has an ems company in Houston, Texas and they"re making the same money as here in Roma, Texas ..This is a very nice job and I really like it a lot, I enjoy helping people and you need to be a very responsible person ...and don't make it only for the money do it because you really like it... I hope you become a very successful person in life and do what you think is better for you....an EMT is a very good career...

  • @magh1981 well thank you i hope so as well. But i wonder starting out is it really 13 and hour personally i think that's pretty good to start out do u have to have a drivers license to go into the program i am in the process of getting them back. I remember i wanted to be an emt in highschool but at that time it was one of those things that i thought was interesting as well as a lot of other occupations so im just narrowing down my choices between this and criminal justice then dectective

  • become a garbage man-the make more...

  • what yew mean??

  • Well a emt-b

  • I want to be a paramedic I'm 17 and I was wondering how I kan get involved at a early age??? Any seggestions??(:

  • fire explorers

  • what exactly do i have to do to be an emt basic can someone plz explain too me asap?

  • First you'll need a BCLS card from the Heart Assn You can get this with one CPR class. Just make sure it's AHA and NOT Red Cross. Don't know why.

Next, you'll need an EMT-B class. Community colleges usually have these.

I advise an anatomy class also, but focus on your EMT. . . you need at least a B- or you flunk.

Finally, you'll have to take the Reg. test. It's not as bad as people make out.

Also. . . be ready to work non-emer for shit pay for maybe 2 years. It's gotta be your calling.

  • @thegame245 you need a CPR/AED (professional rescuer), EMT-B/1 course completion certificate, County EMS reg card, NREMT certificaiton, Ambulance drivers license, current DMV record, Medical examiners card, Current drivers license, Livescan(criminal background check DOJ/FBI) you can get this done at your local police station., and some companies require you to take FEMA IS100.a and IS700.a . then you can start working as a EMT lol

  • how do i get that ambulance license?

  • you go to your local DMV office. pay the 25$ for the test. and 5$ for the ambulance drivers handbook. you need to have a completed DMV request for livescan, DMV physical form filled, current drivers license, and then take the test. pass it and they will mail you the license in about 180 days

  • 180 days?? omg that is a pile of crap ill be waiting forever to get a job than...By the way whats the pay rate for an emt? how to i advance in the field? whats a typical day of work like? Help me out here give me all the facts you know

  • It seems like a lot of ppl who want to do this job have witnessed and accident or something and wanted to help or seen and accident scene with medics and wanted to get involved. thats how i am. ive always wanted to jump out and help ppl and stuff at the scene of an emergency.

  • @musicman1232 thats why we do it =) to help others in need =)

  • I.F transfers suck.

  • THAT'S WHAT I WANT TO BE! AN EMT

  • People don't realize; we're not the uniform we wear, we're not the patch on our sleeve, and we're not the vehicle we drove up in. Medics are medics long before they have the right to say so, they are not made they're discovered. When tragedy strikes everybody runs; some toward and some away. Those of us that do this job are all bound by one question you ask it everytime you answer a call; "If I don't, who will?"

  • Not the most humble bunch though, eh?

  • greetings from paramedic high school in Slovakia

  • Comment removed

  • Its not easy getting a Job In Ontario as a Paramedic. They pay about 65,000$ a Year Our Government takes taxes as well not sure how much they get after the tax is hauled by our governement but its like ( 2200$ every 2 weeks for sure ) If i work in New york City Queens Area Do those paramedics get paid about 2000$+ ? another thing is our paramedic program is intense down here i heard in the states its easier

  • It is different in Australia. Australian Paramedics are amongst the highest educated in the world. Most hold Paramedical Degrees and will advance to Intensive Care after further post grad study. Nurses, military medics need to undergo further training and education before being allowed to practice independently on road. The pay is pretty good depending in which state you are in! It is pretty good here!

  • Mass. is around $16/hour to start, with a projected outcome of $20/hour (after 20 years of experience).....some make more, but thats the standard proposed by the HR departments of private ems companies. theres really no municipal other than fire dept. medics.. Paramedic school is 1-2 years...BLS pay is around 13/hour..and less than 6 months of school

  • Im a paramedic and i make 70k a year but i work 2 full time jobs - 96 hour a week... if you dont work alot of hours the job doesnt pay shit

  • australia's paramedic system is very different. all states are run by the government except for western australia, which is run by a university in co operation with St.John ambulance. 4 year course with 1 classroom and 3 on the job. salary of about 65-80,000 a year and paid for years 2-4 of study. we get good superannuation and lots of bonuses to keep fit and healthy, really rewarding

  • Y'all wanna do something real with your lives. Be a Combat Medic, or a Corpsman ... makes everything I saw in the civilian world seem so trivial.

  • roll your sleeves down GEEK, your not big. in a lot of area's i would also assume. bet you own a jacked up 4x4 with EMS stickers, firefighter dance where the devil bla blah blah. also a pair of Oakley Razor sun glasses!

  • talking about pay. I am a paramedic in NC with a Degree in EMS and only average about $10.33 an hour then after 40 hours I make between $4.25 to $5.50 depending on the work week. We make chinesse overtime, really sucks

  • I'm going through the paramedic program in Ontario, for a primary care paramedic, starting wage is over $25/hr, Advanced Care Paramedic is over $35...

  • That's a nice salary, Im sure you have a good benefits package as well. Here in BC, starting is $2/hour, unless you get a call, which goes up to $18/hour for 4 hours. Benefits come after 5-6 years on the job. It's just crap. That's why the paramedics are on strike...

  • Yeah, not only that, it's affecting the paramedic academy too. I'm a certified EMR and for maybe about a year or so I volunteered around for medic positions to get more experience. Right when I was about to go for PCP, they told me that they're holding off the courses because of the paramedic strike.

  • heyyy me too, from wat im reading, id say were lucky with that kinda of wage

  • go ontario :) dude a ccp makes around 50-55 an hour :)

  • "Go Ontario" . . . . . .

Out of the 50-55/hr = (about $2,000/week) the government takes about 45% of your pay right from the start. That is about Philly, Downstate NY, NJ, So. CA, & some other high volume & 60% of flight medics.

Some Canadian states have to pay sales tax like crazy . . . . .

You guys may be scrapping VCR's to avoid that killer sales tax (just teasing).

I guess each country has it's better places for each job market.

    Be safe on the job...........

  • u deserve more!!

  • Wow, that's is sad. You need to come to PA, near philly. Average is about $23 to 26 an hour.

  • Just passed the NREMT test 2 days ago:)

  • @wellWTF50 i'm very happy for you way to go!

  • All EMT's in the states (including EMT-P's) are RIDICULOUSLY underpaid and that needs to be adjusted.

  • I hate unions, particularly because my dad has a non-union stage production company, but I think the EMT's and Paramedics need to form a labor union. It worked for cops.

  • @kerethan I agree Completely.... :)

  • @kerethan Sad but True..

  • @kerethan: not only in the states.... for this kind of work, all Paramedics are underpaid.

  • @kerethan Medics that work for AMR in my city Stockton CA get paid 70k a year including cerain incentives

  • @joe209ca How many hrs a week is that? Three 24 hr shifts running 18-19 calls and 2 AMAs maybe?

  • @bigphreaking Im sorry I can't tell you what their shift's are and how many calls they run. But I dont think the number of calls will determin how much they get paid..right? It'll all depends I think. But I recently got my emt cert and I went down to the AMR office in my town to ask for an application and the salary base and what could be the highest salary earned. I think after they go through all the pay raises and if you have a degree ..thats what you could earn.

  • @joe209ca Well, I worked at AMR ALCO for 10 yrs. Working 96 hrs a week, I made 70k a year. Go figure. I worked in Mid County (Hayward, San Leandro) and it did get busy. Especially during peak commute times on 880. Let's just say I worked very hard for what I got paid. AMR as a company was horrible. The calls were great, the company was not.

  • @bigphreaking gees 96hrs? Did you sleep? lol. Bet you helped alot of people though... Well I was just looking for a stepping stone to get me into the fire service. My other option was maybe get on a search and rescue team.

  • @bigphreaking

RU complaining the 70K from AMR? How many companies have you worked for. Have you ever had to pay for your uniforms, boots and recert without any reimbursement? How Bout your insurance. Kaiser or PPO Lots of people making less w/out decent benefits No sympathy from anyone here who has paid for or is paying for these items. All while you make 70/yr. U didn't mention you could make more >100K with a little OT. I only hope Paramedics Plus pays as well after this contract expires.

  • @bhz I worked at Regional and then it became AMR. It was a meatgrinder. I work for Chevron now. Why? Because I am worth it and I will not work for a company that treats me badly.

  • @bigphreaking Must have been ALCO

  • @bhz It was ALCO sir. I loved my job. I hated the company which is the general opinion there.

  • @kerethan you can say that again! All ems personnel are underpaid, over stressed and why? Because THEY CARE. I love my job for 22 years. I am a paramedic!

  • @kerethan I'm an RN. I communicate with Paramedics and EMTs every day. I agree that they are grossly undercompensated for the work they do to save lives.

  • @thebleedingjeans

Glad to hear that there is still some respect both ways in the field. Just getting into it I see some people who create a lot of tension but most RN's are awesome :). Props to ya!

  • EMT-B, in Philadelphia... starting 13/hr. The money is in the overtime (which is almost certainly guaranteed)...

  • i was thinking about becoming an emt & i live in philadelphia... should i?? how much education in college do i need ( im going to be a senior in high school this fall)

  • As for the EMT-B cert... you need to enroll into a school that provides the training. No pre-reqs with that. EMT-P requires more.

I definitely suggest JeffStat for EMT-B and EMT-P if you're in Philly. It's more pricey than the bumpkin schools for EMT-B, but the quality of education is a hundred times better. They train you above and beyond what the state test requires.

Take some pride in your work and get a good education.

  • I just moved to Dallas Tx...just to let you guys know...you have a great reputation in TX

  • they do anywhere.

  • how much does this pay a year?

  • like around 30k yr. way way way under paid

  • @90Inspire for the job they are doing yes they are underpaid...

  • Way underpaid in the private sector. As an IAFF Paramedic for 30 years I currently make 90k + a year. I am a senior medic but I am not in the biggest system in my state . I always advise people to try for the public jobs first. Burn out rate was 5-7 years and probably not much better now. If you last as long as I have you are really lucky. When done here you still have a job on the engines. 30k is not much to live on for this job, normally non union and at the bosses whim if you stay.

  • Its funny. Here in Canada, or Western Canada, the government medics make next to nothing, compared to fire and police. In BC, we have a provincial service, and in the smaller towns, where there are no full timers, part-timers make $2/hour with a pager. When they get a call, they get paid $18/hour for 3 hours, before returning to the $2/hour. Currently, the BCAS is on strike to increase wages and inprove work conditions... Private medics make WAY more.

  • See were I work in Alberta we are paid a basic day rate no matter if we go on a call or not right? it is based on a 10 hour day whether we turn a wheel or not. Anything after 10 on car is time and half (which isn't too bad but definatly not enough) Now with the takeover that happened I am praying that everyone's wage will be the same across the province and it will increase because here we are also grossly underpaid

  • I'm just getting into the field and I live in Alberta myself, however I plan on getting my Fire education too to work in an integrated services department, but their changing that too. I highly doubt the Province will increase wages, name a single well paid province employee?

If they get rid of integrated services, I'm out, time to try another province.
