  • I have been trying to say this for months and it's like roğ grüoğ meğflüü in Turkish haha

  • Haha, good stuff. :-)

  • haha humor :D

  • Was this filmed at agerskov ungdomsskole????

  • Rob caught the flu.

  • THEY'RE SO AWESOME!!!!!!

  • Man kan da ikke sige folk udtaler det forkert, det kommer jo an på hvad det rent faktisk er de vil sige. Rødgrød er jo ikke mere rigtigt end rød grød, og så vidt jeg ved findes den grød slet ikke virkeligheden.

  • @Nicurru Jordbærgrød min fine ven. Jordbærgrød.

  • What I heard was I'm caughting a flew

  • I got close, I'm Swedish and since we also have a few words which we pronounce with the back of our tounge I think I should have at least a 90% similarity to those in the video D:

  • Hahaha I'm so impressed by myself, I could say it!! But seriously danes... hahaha ;D

  • XDDD the squirrel is in the refrigerator lol

  • Well, four years ago I integrated danish society like never before and scare the shit out of people when I say this, just because I'm Bulgarian. Normal, Copenhagen style, no accent at all, people can't tell if I'm from there at all. Judland or Sweden are hell though :) Good job on recording it and really, as Thrym said, it's rødgrød, it gives me such pleasure to correct Danes who say it wrong :)

  • Its 2:20. Do you know where YOUR squirrel is?

  • I'm norwegian and I am ashamed that I got it wrong xD Blarghhh, you guys really don't talk as complicated as we'd like to have it.

  • What's the girls name at 0:29 ? -She looks like someone i know!

  • @DonBugatti i don't remember. but we met her at a camp in southern jutland.

  • @DonBugatti its an afro whore, u been there also ?

  • @DonBugatti Its an afro whore. You been there to ?

  • As a Norwegian I am fascinated that I understand any thing at all of this language. Crazy Danes. :p

  • It sounds like they are swallowing their tongues.

  • Hvordan fanden får du rød grød med fløde til at blive red berries with creme? Red berries with creme = Røde bær med cremé? Ikke engang i nærheden.

  • omfg, i nearly pissed my pants ;D

  • I'm American, able to speak a number of other languages though. I can say "rødgrød med fløde", but have had absolutely no luck getting the rest of my family to say it right.

  • fail????

  • what's wrong with an american accent? Danish accent is lame..

  • @MeowD2 ... Ooookay? Good to know.

  • I've been studying Danish at KU for 9 months now, and this phrase is still impossible.

  • I'm danish and I seriously cannot pronounce "very well".

  • Comment removed

  • Why does Danish always sound as if the speakers were drunk? I sometimes thought about taking Danish classes at the university, but what I heard about the pronounciation, scares me off so far. :D

Probably I need some 1-litre-cans of Faxe to be able to say 'rød grød med fløde'.

  • click on 0:53 every 1 second

  • why would you put are squirrel in the refrigerator?

  • the squirrel aint in no fridge - watz da big deal bout sayin dat? dat aint hard a'all???

  • PLEASE ALL

Try Say "Øl" (That means beer on english btw ^^ - Very important word ;D )

    Øl

PLease give me some response :)

  • you're right. beer is a very important word to know how to say in every language :)

  • @tracyapps How are we supposed to know what that strange "O" sounds like??

  • @Lauritz1800 Most native English speakers (including myself) who have tried learning another Germanic language will usually be able to figure out a close pronunciation for the character "ø" because it is also an International Phonetic character with similar pronunciation.

  • Im going to learn Danish but its just impossible for me to pronounce rød. I have a hard time with the silent d too but rød is just impossible lol.

  • I'm studying Danish at university and once you get used to it (after enough phonetic exercises) it's not so difficult :P

  • I agree. The learning curve is steep, but once you get it it becomes very intuitive. I honestly find Swedish to be harder to pronounce than Danish....

  • americans and french people are the people that have most trouble with this line :)

but yeah..rød grød med fløde is really something that is hard to pronounce if you're not danish :) (and I am danish!)

  • @kristicuk: I hear ya, man. Danish is so different from English. The silent d always throws me off, lol.

  • 0:59

    smukke

  • hahaha. how do you say this. it doesnt even resemble anything like a word. it is just a noise to me lol.

  • I have always roughly translated it as red fruit porridge with cream (which is very tasty btw)

My favorite phrase to have Danes say is

"The brussel sprouts are wrapped in aluminium foil and are in the refrigerator with the rest of the vegetables" or " The victorious vikings wander wearily" or "very well" as "v" and "W" can be tricky for them.

The other phrase that Danes like to get people to say is "Guleroedder" or carrots.

I lived a year in Denmark 1988-1989 on Fyn

  • ***I usually add fruit more as a clarification of what it is and not that the word fruit is at all mentioned in the phrase*** as the person previously mentioned "red porridge with cream" is a better direct translation

  • grøøøøøøøøøøøøøøøøøøøøøøøøøøøøød

Our language is so cool xD

  • @1994Andersen Totalt! >8D

  • Only a few of the Danes are actually pronouncing it correct. It's called rødgrød, not rød grød. Sadly, many Danes can't tell whether it's one or two words. This is probably due to learning English grammar where most words are split in two. In Danish, however, we tend to put the words together. In some cases, an s or an e can be used to connect the words.

  • that is confusing.....what are they trying to say anyhoo...

  • They are trying to say "rødgrød med fløde". [ˈʁɶðˀˌgʁɶðˀ mɛ ˈflø:ð]. That means red porridge with cream. You can use redcurrants, strawberries, raspberries or other red berries. You then stew the berries with sugar and potato starch and serve it with cold cream.

  • sounds nice....

  • @Thrym865

I've lived in Denmark for two years, and everyone I've heard say it (and have tried getting me to say it) have both said and pronounced it as two words, including grandparents. I figure, if old people say it in two words, two words should be right. They don't speak a lick of English.

  • mwhaha. i can say Rød Grød Med Fløde xD

  • and.. if you think that regular danish (copenhagen danish) is wierd you should hear the people in southern judland.. (north of germany) maan. it must be like the australian farmer dudes compared to regular english.

  • yeah it is XD

  • lol my dad is from Southern Jutland I was born in Roskilde and my mom was born I think close to Copenhagen so I have experienced both

  • @gustavarnesen2 Hva fa'en er'ed du står å si'er din Kø'venhavner!

  • @gustavarnesen2 it's true. I'm not from the south part, but I've lived there most my childhood. It still sound really silly to me.

Srsly, when I first moved to southern jutland I didn't know wtf ppl were saying... xD they're nice ppl tho.

  • @gustavarnesen2 københavnere har da en virkelig underlig accent?

  • no no no no.. the D is NOT an L.. it's more like a short version of the english/american way of pronouncing "th" Just without the last sound..

  • whoevers teaching Danes to speak with an american accent, please stop.

  • lol. The squirrrrrrel is in the Rrrrrrefrrrrregerator

  • Damn these words! To hard! Its breaking my toung ^^

  • Cant you say it? xD

  • Lets just say im not as bad as I used to be at it, but still not like a dane of course ^^ But im taking lessons so maybe in the near future. I'll just keep practising

  • O:11 <---- lol

  • Hardest words ever.............

  • haha Rød grød med fløde

  • Strawberryporrigde with cream

  • if your danish you can say it...i can ;S

  • I'm no Danish and I can say it either :)

  • hahahahahah xD'

  • Jeg kan godt sige det !:P

Rød grød med fløde ! :D

  • 'aiidd bleaagghed meerd feaaauhohg' - thats how they should spell it. man kan sager att svenska ar inte sa svart som danska! (sorry no swedish keyboard)

  • hahahahahha.

  • I'm Danish!!!...

It's Not "red berries with cream" It's "Red porridge with cream"

    Not Berries!

  • I can actually say it. I have had it many times. Really good stuff!!! Red strawberry sauce with cream.

  • you idiot... it's NOT SAUCE!... And it has nothing to do with strawberry either?!

Where do you see the word strawberry and sauce?: Rød Grød Med Fløde

    Where!?!?!?!

  • Easy for German speaking. Just change D for L

    Röl gröl me| flö|

    :)

  • rød grød med fløde XD

eller rød grød med økologisk fløde.. XD

  • Og så lige en gang til for hele miljøet:

ØKOLOGISK DYRKEDE FRUGTER MAST SAMMEN TIL RØDGRØD MED ØKOLOGISK FLØDE OG ØKOSUKKER!

  • hah

  • d is like an l, funny

  • they say squirl, not squirrel :S

but Rødgrød med Fløde is hard to say O.o

  • If the ones saying "the squirrel is in the refrigerator" are Danes, why are they all speaking with American accents?

  • that's part of the joke.. most of them saying the squirrel in the refrigerator are americans :-) (or having an american speak for them)

  • diffcult for english speaking people because of the R

and difficult for germans because of the th-like d.

but if you are capable of both letters then it shouldn't be that hard.

  • I tried this for a whole year and never got it right. Miss you both Mowden and Wifes!!

  • Rød grød med fløde XD

  • YES! its the impossibly hard danish term..phrase..whatever!!!!!

this video has made my day. thank you. <3

  • danes pronounce "r" funny

  • hvorfor et egern i køleskabet?... Som om at det nogensinde ville ske!!.. (mm man selvfølgelig bor i USA og jænligt spiser traffikdræbte dyr)

  • Jamen det er jo bare humor hva?

    haha. neej ;)

  • rød grøn med fløde lmao :P

  • Jaah... Rød grød med fløde... D smager a lort t...

  • This video encompasses the entire Danish language.

Or at least what I can make of it.

    xx

  • Omg! XD *poke* crazy. Rød grøn med fløde.. jeg får ondt i tungen af at sige det så mange gange. :P

  • Ups.. Ik grøn - grød

  • I'm portuguese and I can say it!!! xP Am I normal??

    ROD GROD MED FLODE!!! xP

[ don't have the crossed "o"s on my keyboard ]

  • Det er da ikke så svært at sige...^^

  • Funny people. Now you try say Петър плет плете, през три плета преплита, плети Петре плета.

I don't speak Danish. I find it rather weird. Deutsch macht mehr Spaß.

Y español no está malo también.

  • Jeg kan sagtens sige rødgrød med fløde :)
