Religion is political because people want to see politics. Anybody of any religion will get this song. Something else to mention is art. Sit back and listen. Guess how this style of singing has evolved. Its not difficult to grasp. The song is pure class. It is indeed Clonmacnoise with the shannon in the background.
Let's be more precise and say this video is about Catholic Ireland. Further, the comment saying the crosses are pre-Catholic must be substantiated. Even if it so, they have been adapted to express the True Religion.
May God bless Ireland, and may St. Patrick continue to intercede for her!
This is great to hear and to see and so relevant now as Catholic bishops in Ireland behave like the French squad at the World Cup. People have had enough and want bishops, like the great St Patrick, to put Christ and His people first and themselves last. The singing of this lovely folk song at Sunday Mass would help a lot to undo much of the harm already done. Go raibh míle maitrh agat! Thank you very much indeed!

It has nothing what so ever got to do with the IRA. it translates `To Christ the seed, to Christ the crop,
in barn of Christ may we be brought. To Christ the sea, to Christ the fish, in nets of Christ may we be caught. From growth to age, from age to death,Thy two arms here, O Christ, about us. From death to end, not end but growth,in blessed Paradise may we be`. Or at least that`s the jist of it it`s in old Irish so....... I`m only familiar with the new kind fluently
This song gave me wonderful chills. I close my eyes and I can see across the pond to years gone by. I think I'm born into the wrong time and culture, but this music really captured my heart. Thank you for posting it.
I think it has to do with the Celtic soul, it speaks to the most human parts of us-a powerful, heart-based culture that forms the distant foundations of the West-this is real stuff.
I first heard this tune almost 20 years ago from Phil Coulter and have been haunted by it every since. Not till tonight did I hear the words sung. It gladdens my soul. Thank you for posting.
Ireland became christian because of St Patrick and many other saints, pre christian Ireland is one with incest and some tribes even practised cannabalism. Nothing invasive about catholicism in Ireland
dia dhuit paddy, people seem to think paganism was wonderful, when in fact sometimes it may have been fine but mostly it was constant warring, strife - competition for resources and sheer bloody stress
thats why they looked for something else - something with light - thats mostly why they accepted it too.
also irish/celtic christianity is a creature very different to the roman beast - it had more mysticism, beauty and spirituality - ppl tend to lump it all together
well u might retract that sentiment when you see the pollution of our rivers, lakes - the disregard of our heritage sites like the hillof tara by building motorways that encroach upon it
also our abuse of green land and pristine areas by rezoning due to corruption has been rife
some places are sacrosanct and should be left alone - we should build progression in our mind that sometimes nothing and leaving a place in a certain state - IS something and IS a place in which the normal hussle and bustle of life should not intrude
that was part of the essence of celtic christianity- the thing u find very alluring
Celtic Christianity, as I understand it, held to its roots for a long time even after Rome Schismed in 1054. The spirit of Celtic Christianity, which has a profound respect for creation and recognizes its sanctity, is very 'Orthodox'. Because of the Celts' religious background before Christianization, I believe they grasped that concept perhaps better than any other people. For this, as an Orthodox Christian of Western decent, I'm getting acquainted with the early Celtic Saints.
i remember i knew this song by heart wen i was in school i remember singing it at my fathers brothers funeral and seeing my dad cry it was the first and last time i ever seen him cry! he has since lost his faith i hope to learn this song again and sing it to him with hope his faith is restored! no god, no peace! KNOW GOD KNOW PEACE!
What a beautiful video. I always say that Ireland looks its best when it's wet and cloudy and the sky is brooding. Then there's an intensity and drama about the landscape that really gets to you. Everyone complains about the gloomy, wet weather, but it's what makes our country beautiful.
@tubelookjohn ..i have been to ireland twice and will be going again this year..it is the most beautiful place i have ever been and when wet and misty it is beautifully mysterious..my grandparents are from there..cant wait to go back
I know most people are Christian... I respect that... I´m a Wiccan... I´m sure to say that Celtic Crosses are not Christian... that is, pre-Christian... Celts, pagans... not Christian per se.....They symbolyze the Universe as a whole..
Anyway.. pretty song....Wiccans belileve in Christ too... although in another way
@Hiberniensis I live in Washington state, and I agree about the beauty of a land of soft grey clouds and gentle rain. I hope to visit Ireland someday, and feel right at home. :)

This is an old Gaelic prayer which in English is called,`Christ`s is the seed` and set to music by Sean O` Riada.
It has no poltical meaning but rather purely spiritual.

What most people miss the good in it is still with us.
Irish folks have and will always love the land and the earth and respect those who came before us.

We have the technology to build motorways and cities with out destroying the places we build them.
If people make the choice not to use it and make a mess of things in the process thats a shame.
We don't have to choose between progress and the environment,we just have to be carefull.

tubelookjohn 4 years ago
Why do we have to believe in anything? Is it death? Don't be afriad of death my friend...
Materialism is not what has taken over here, just the progress of what is real, what is becoming rather than what isn't...
