I'd claim it, you can feel when your fingers are jammed into the ground and the decision should be made by the fielder.. if it comes down to it not really being a catch then after the game everyone will see you are a cheat..
Whatever i like the Indian Australian rivalry which is brewing up at least some interest in the matches coz they really hate each other................
2:36 "keep playing the game the way u wanna play"...r u fucking kidding me? whatever happend to playing the game in the true spirit...frickin ridiculous man! These commentators r completely biased and i cant believe they dont think thats not out.

that is not out....it is so clear....for all those who say it is out, there is too much doubt anyway....benefit of the doubt doesnt go to the convicts
Mark Nicholas is such a loser who always find something to admire Aussies. Ricky ponting doesn't need any support, as one rightly said in the commentary, he could lead by example. But he has been hardly honest. He was caught and the umpire ruled him notout a couple of occassiona and he stayed on. So did Atherton once and also Ricky defended another Aussie doing it. He's no saint as Mark Nicholas is trying to potray.
Yeah i agree. Mark Nicholas isn't even Australian! Even when his own country, England is in Australia, he's just the same old loser that ovbiously gets paid too much. He always tries to portrey the Australian team as "a force to be reckoned with i world sport". Even some of the Australian commentators aren't as bad as him. Australia provide good coverage of games in Australia, Mark Nicholas just ruins it.
well the rules is while you are in momentum of catching the ball and the ball hit the ground it is not out, even if it is in you hands and you all ready caught but you are in the same momentum and the ball hit the ground while in you hand that is not out.
If u read the Rules u will oughtta know that while in the act of taking a catch even after the contact if the ball touches the Ground it not out , u have to prevent it from grounding it dosent matters if u let it go or not !
None lets go of the ball ! what matters is if they could hold it on or not !
That means nothing. If it was safely in his hands no doubt it was out but if any part of the ball touched the Ground it not out please reach out of your bias of being from the native nation !
the ground isn't used to help him take the catch, its an inevitable part of the process, you know what with all this gravity we're got going round these days. he takes the catch first, how hard is that to fucking understand?? all a player needs to do is get to the ball first, THATS IT, if the ball gets to the ground first then it is judged to have bounced, simple, easy
lol yeah he catches the ball but if he grounds it then its out...it wasnt safe untill he had it under control i agree its out, but just letting you know it has to be under control ;D and at that point it wasnt.
ah fuk off u nappy head if u had caught the ball liek that u wlda been jumping aroudn thinking u caught it and i dam sure know if sri lanka hade of caught that they wld appeald so suk me
I'm not here to post nonsensically xenophobic comments and make racial slurs, I just want to comment on the legitimacy of the catch. The ball is grounded...what other argument can there be? The ground is used to help Symonds control the ball during the catching process...it's not out. If your fingers are under the ball then that's legitimate, even to the side, but Symonds here is grasping the ball from above, not a particularly steady grip and grounds it to maintain control. Not out.
Quite clearly none of you are Australians. You all comment on how mad Australia play; take a good hard look at yourselves. Australia is my adopted nation and from what I can see, they play just as fairly as my homeland team (Ireland) do. To make it clear to the writer of that Symonds comment, he would more than likely take on your entire village and win. He's is Australia's version of Chuck Norris. And the Gilly squash ball, who cares - didnt help him later, did it? U CALL US WHINGERS
hes of west indian descent, but born in england to adopted parents. but what matters is that he came and played for the right state and country. hes a great player and a great person, disregarding the bar fights, at least he can stand up for himself.
No mate, do some research. Humans are part of the Hominidae ape family. Therefore, human beings are biologically apes. Not that I'd expect you to understand, racist people do tend to be stupid.

its not out. Even if we believe Taylor that the little finger was under the ball(which I doubt) as he landed the ball was fully facing the ground. I mean the area of the ball touching the ground was more than the one covered by his little finger.
Disgusting biased commentary by both of them. Tony Graig is still living in the 70s
The rule in cricket has nothing to do with the area of the ball vs. the area of the little finger. A good way to think about it is if Symonds was diving off a cliff (ie. the ground wasn't their) would he still have caught the ball?
The answer is obviously yes, he had it in his hand and had control of it.
I totally agree with farazaidi everytime i have watched australian sport the commentating has been unbelievable biased. Not even a little bit biased but actually putting down the other teams with snarky comments it so anoyying especially that fat fuck taylor i cant believe the sentences he says because there so wrong!
I remember another catch controversy a couple of years back.
That match was Australia vs Sri Lanka and it appeared like Mahela Jayawardene had caught the ball but Ricky Ponting just stood his ground. Later Jayawardene was forced to apologise for claiming, which was in my belief, a fair catch. Im pretty sure Andrew Symonds didn't apologise nor did he even acknowledge it wasnt out.
it was stupid on Mahela's part to apologize, a fielder can never be sure of catches in such situations. Moreover, it is a fielder's right to appeal and its umpire's responsibility to call it right. Although Symonds should've acknowledged it was not out after the match, but nobody should be apologetic about it.
how can you take the word of the fielder when the fielder cant be trusted.. and i dont expect anyone in teh world to say i didnt take it cleanly lets say in a tight world cup semifinal for eg..
pretty simple if u ask me.. refer it and if its inconclusive stick to the old fashion benefit of the doubt goes to the batsman
Firstly it's Mark Nicholas not Mark Taylor. Secondly that was quite clearly a dropped catch. Symonds fingers do slide under the ball as Grieg suggests, but as the ball nears the ground you can see he has no grip on the ball as his fingers slide up the balls side. The ball in turn is grounded, and has to be grounded for Symonds to obtain any control over it. Simply not a catch. There are some lofty opinions being spouted by Grieg in regards to fielders making their own decisions as to...
...whether it's grounded or not. Praising Ponting? This is the guy that didn't walk when he edged it versus India on numerous occasions, gave Ganguly out when Clarke never caught it and then appealed when it hit Sangakkara's shoulder, I'm sorry but Ponting for all his greatness in the game has no game etiquette. He plays to win at all costs and thus his word because of his actions on the field, cannot be trusted. The funny thing is, if the Grant Elliot vs England run out had taken place in Aus..
...I can just hear the commentary team (perhaps not Benaud or Nicholas) claiming Elliot to have gotten in the way of the ball and it being the captains right to 'out' the player, whilst Collingwood does it and the world kicks up an absolute excretion storm. Ponting has led by example and shown the world how to forgo the spirit of the game with bogus appealing and false catches and he tries to maintain respect but he doesn't walk when he edges it. A great batsman, poor cricketer.
Thanks for your comment. There are actually 3 commentators, Tony Greg, Mark Taylor and Mark Nicholas... Tony Greg specifically even mentions Mark Taylor's name at 22 Seconds...take a look!
Thanks for pointing that out. lol I only mentioned that because I had no recognition of who the third commentator was. I think I was too absorbed with getting a statement about the affair on the screen. I do like watching Channel 9 when they show Aussie tests and ODIs here, they have a great unit.
@vicavox that is catch !!! your saying if someone skys the ball catch it then rubs the ball on the ground thats a droped catch? cuz he caught it then the ball rubed the ground CATCH
@bundyboyzbrah Sorry bundy it's not a catch. If any of you actually understood the rules to cricket you'll realise a fielder has to be in control of himself and the ball through the entirety of the catch. Symonds uses the ground to secure the ball. Your "example" is ridiculous, because the ball is caught before rubbing on the ground. If however it was skied, the ball dropped into the fielders hands, popped out, and the fielder dove forward but the ball skimmed the ground as he caught it....
@vicavox ...it's a DROPPED CATCH. If you watch the slow-mo properly his fingers are under the ball as he falls, but when he hits the ground, his fingers are ON TOP of the ball, therefore he is using the ground as a means of securing the ball in his hand and therefore is NOT in control of the ball when he hits the ground. It's a grounded catch and is NOT OUT.
Law 32 in the MCC Rule Book. I suggest you read it.
@vicavox well i rekon he had controll of it for about 100th of a milli secound b4 it hit the ground but thats just me.....everyone has there opinion ..i would have giving it out aswell BACK TO THE PAVillioooooooooooooooooon
@bundyboyzbrah You must be in control of the catch for all of the duration of the catch. As the old law used to read that a catch could not be claimed unless the field had "complete control over the further disposal of the ball". i.e. the catch was not completed till he threw the ball away. Read the rules. Seriously.
OMG!! What a biased decision this is!!! Unless you have bad eyesight how can u give that out???!!!The ball touched the ground!! simple! Give it not out!! One question: Why do all the biased deecisions go towards the australians??? i.e Sangakkara: ball hitting the shoulder,:Underarm Incidient, This one, these cant all be coincidences can they???
That was dropped. Also the only reason that Ponting didn't get any support from the rest of the world is that they knew Australia would abuse it, just like they do with everything else. In a very similar incident to this, Ponting stayed around after he had been caught in the second final of the VB series 05 v SL. Went to make a 100 too. We can't have it both ways. If that was Punter batting he would have made a huge fuss and stayed around, that just a fact. - Aussie supporter here btw!
So if I tell the truth about what I observe im not a true aussie supporter? I cant support my team and condemn their behaviour? What logic is there in that?
great point nd good memory about 05 bud lol..and aus were already three down if i remember and his wicket would have surely put australia in seriuos trouble after already having lost the first final..sigh, i remeber him and symonds batting on and scoring 350 or somthin in the end..made me feel sick.. anyways.. i would go along if someone like gilly said it case he is true to word but ponting is no role model and cant be trusted
nonsense. clearly we can see dat symo put the ball on the ground. these aussie commentators r always biased. in the adjacent commentary harsha & wasim akram noticed immediately that the catch was not taken cleanly. and i think it is bullshit abt havin this idea that the batsman should take the word of the fielder. what if the fielder is lying, or incorrectly thinks that he has taken the catch. plus v all know dat symo doesn walk when he edges the ball. so why take his word when he is fieldin?
@fakhy are u being racist towards aussies? coz if so u r completely wrong about the aussie commentators. number 1 tony greig is english and number two they are allowed to have their own opinion so come back when u know what ur talking about
@fakhy Dude, yea they're obviously going to go the way of the umpires call arent they? they are not gonna say no thats not a catch to make the umpires look like idiots. say whatever you want but thats my opinion
I'd claim it, you can feel when your fingers are jammed into the ground and the decision should be made by the fielder.. if it comes down to it not really being a catch then after the game everyone will see you are a cheat..

nonsense. clearly we can see dat symo put the ball on the ground. these aussie commentators r always biased. in the adjacent commentary harsha & wasim akram noticed immediately that the catch was not taken cleanly. and i think it is bullshit abt havin this idea that the batsman should take the word of the fielder. what if the fielder is lying, or incorrectly thinks that he has taken the catch. plus v all know dat symo doesn walk when he edges the ball. so why take his word when he is fieldin?

@fakhy are u being racist towards aussies? coz if so u r completely wrong about the aussie commentators. number 1 tony greig is english and number two they are allowed to have their own opinion so come back when u know what ur talking about

@fakhy Dude, yea they're obviously going to go the way of the umpires call arent they? they are not gonna say no thats not a catch to make the umpires look like idiots. say whatever you want but thats my opinion
