I don't know why, every time I listen to this song, I just love it more and more... it touches my deepest feelings in a way no other songs can... Bless you man...
Life long fan of Neil Diamond, and the "12 Songs" album this comes from is his best since Hot August Night - BUT - this here is a truly dire performance of one of the top songs on the album! Dull, lifeless, dreary - all the lightness and sparkle on the studio version is totally missing , in its place a mechanical dirge, as if he's on a double dose of Valium. Or just very tired.
Neil Diamond, in all actuality, turned Rosie back to the Heterosexual Realm after giving her a "Diamond in the Rough"in' backstage immediately following this performace.
After he took a swig from his flask of bourbon (which can be seen protruding from his jacket pocket at 1:03 in this video), spit on her back and called her a "wretched beat chick," though, she went back to the same ol' butchy O'Donnell we've all come to loath.
i was listening to npr when i checked your response. they were talking about bombs and fighting. neils table song came on...a better piece of news in my mind-cool
hey I saw him 20 years ago...yeah he looks older but ....THAT VOICE!!! all you have to do is close your eyes...sound good?? don't matter what he looks like... if the sound rocks who cares??
Good song from a great album. For Danfoster111 - Neil has been to Ireland many times. He sold out Croke Park in 1984 (35,000), sold out the RDS for 10 nights in 1989(>60,000), Sold out Croke Park for 2 nights in 1994 (70,000), sold out Croke Park in 1996 (40,000), sold out the Point for 6 nights in 1999 (>50,000) and sold out Lansdowne Road twice in 2002 (>70,000). Not bad for an 'old man'.
Something wrong with u people. Why this abuse to me. Do you think everyone lives in Dublin. You= can take that old man and stick him! now I'm glad I never saw him. He's not the best for sure. Our Van & U2 are.
Like you said. 12 Songs was a great cd with all songs written by Neil. It has been said by critics that this group of songs is like his music of 30 years ago. So lets hope he still has more to give us. And if not the beautiful songs he has written will last us a lifetime. No one could replace him.
Absolutely loved 12 songs. I saw Neil in Glasgow a couple of years back and he was fantastic. I feel he was not well in this show or indeed he is on the way to the big stage in the sky, never seen him or heard him so weak. But what a star.
Yeah, sorry you missed a truly great performer in his prime. But I know for a fact that he can still draw in the crowds so maybe you'll get the chance. I hope you are lucky enough.
Well of course Neil looks older, still pretty sexy for a senior citizen. Still sounds fabulous. Love his cd 12 songs. He's been around 40 years so he's doing something right.
I never had a chance to see Neil diamond when he was younger. It's so sad how old he looks and sounds. I'm so regretful I didn't see him a long time ago when he was in his prime.
It was 1966 or forty years ago when he took the stage as the Solitary Man, well now he has found the sound again after all these years and a ton of hits and memories.
Neil's songs and voice are some of my favorite sounds....

What a great song from latest cd 12 songs. I heard he is workin on another with Rubin. Can't wait

for me its amazing, that most of the songs from "12 songs" developed, for me, in a short time into classics!Great record!

Danfoster111 - Are you a little mixed up? My comment was to johnp31. Neil's voice may sound weak but your brain is weak.

I'd love to if you will stick that ol man Van and UE up yours.

Yeah, there's a DVD of that performance and the stadium was packed with adoring fans. I guess you don't get out much.

danfoster111 - I believe his last performance was in Dublin, 2002 to a crowd at least that large. I think Ireland loves him. well maybe not you.
Crynoutloud 4 years ago
He fisrt performed in Ireland (Croke Park)in 1984 before an audience of 35,000.
Crynoutloud 4 years ago
The View is a morning show. Think that might account for his voice sounding weak ?
Crynoutloud 4 years ago
That's what I said and you disagreed. Now you admit that somethings wrong with his voice here. Notice he's sitting down. I think he's not well.
He never came to Ireland that I know of. I've lived here 10 years. LOVE IT
