You CAN metal detect in front of "anyones" yard as long as it is from sidewalk to the road side...do NOT go from sidewalk to YARD side. Because from "sidewalk to road" belongs to the CITY and not the house (though they must mow the grass). Just be sure to fill in the holes nicely...

The towns and cities give the home owners in front, rights to use them to cut out the expense of the city having to go cut down the grass, or maintain them. I hunt those easements. But I skip over the ones people have put a lot of energy into maintaining. Some people get pissy about it. Others invite you onto their property. Oh and this video sux
