Second smallest mammal: Pygmy Shrew

In Science were dissecting owl pellets. In my pellet I got 4 shrew skulls. One is smaller than a pinky nail!

They're very cute but don't make good pets - although you can supplement their diet with softened cat food, they need vast amounts of live insects. They're almost completely blind and will attack anything that moves, including your hand and their bite is very painful! Much better sticking with a mouse or a gerbil

Careful - be careful never to drop shrews or hamsters or other small animals - their bones are small and can break easily. Mammals (even tiny mammals!) have nervous systems like yours and feel pain in almost the same way that you do! Don't hold them high in the air or over tables that they could jump off of!
