@TheKeisari i don't get the comparisons too, from 1912 to today there have been a lot of worst ship disasters.even in recent years like 2008,2002,1996 with thousands of deaths.
I actually knew a contemporary of the Captain's named Marco Nogara. We met in 1983 aboard Carnival Cruise Line's Mardi Gras when he was the First Mate.
I recently sailed her sister hip, these are big, ugly, vulgar, barges intended for constant grazing from one buffet to the next, we were stunned by the hideous interiors, they could all use good sinking and retrofit.
@TheRavendearest I agree - I feel bad about the disaster, it's a horrible thing, but these ships - who designs and decorates them? Gaudy, too many colors, everything looks like it's plastic (even when it might not be). Compared to the fabulous old ocean liners of the French and Italian Lines back in the 50's & 60's, they're pretty bad (it cracks me up, too - people think the 1970's had bad taste - well, yeah, but take a look at some of the stuff in the world today!!).
@radamik All the ships of the Costa fleet are designed with a certain style, a special topic and are all different to each other, so how can they all be "pretty bad"?
You can't compare liners of the past with those nowadays. Neither in the way they're built, nor in the kind of luxury and entertainment. It's not possible to sell a cruise on an vintage built liner nowadays. It's all about money, that's all. Concordia was a beauty, I was on board 2008.
Its a terrible shame that the lives were lost. But jesus christ. That was a tacky tacky tasteless ship stuffed with chinz and glitterballs. Its a pity it diddnt sink on launching.
DAAAAAAAAM that was a very, very beautiful ship!!!! My favorite color GREEN made that ship stand out. I love green. :) But it looked more like a Vegas scene. I'm just speechless. Thanks for posting this video. Its so sad that people are unaccounted for. I will be praying for their recoveries. From the videos that I've seen.... the captain needs his ass kicked. He should NOT have been that close to the rocks/ island.
@JPRIZZY209 As sad as it is I thought the same thing but its just too huge plus the water that's filled in it would make it much more difficult to do. That's like people trying to savage a giant swimming pool when it's full of water..... unfortunately you can't. The water would have to be emptied then maybe. I also thought that they could saw it apart (big chunks). The good thing about it is that the ship is not in the center of the sea. Its deep but not as if it was in the much deeper part.
Eight weeks before sinking? Then why are their Halloween decorations starting at the 6:20 mark. Are those decorations all year round? Even after Christmas? I find that very odd, eight weeks before. Nice ship though, too bad the Captain lost his skills and training during time of need! And what upsets me, is that he had a chance to save the passengers, they weren't in the middle of nowhere, least they were by land!
@prettynis74 Well, I can't really answer for the person making the video, but eight weeks after Coststa Concordia ran aground was roughly around mid-September. Two or three weeks after Halloween. I think it is most likely kept up until they swap it out for Christmas decorations ;) That's my guess.
@prettynis74 Are you thinking straight? Yes, around 8 weeks like the uploader said! They may have stayed on-board an extra 11 days taking it to 8 weeks, i don't know. Halloween is celebrated generally around the world on 31st October yes? This video was take as stated by the uploader on the 2nd November 2011, 2 days after Halloween. Does it not make sense to you that the decorations are still in place just 2 days after Halloween? Explain to me please, how this is 'odd' to you?
No he was drinking and wanted to wave to someone and went off course crashing the boat.it is his fault. He also abandoned ship something no captain is to do. Its called maritime law look it up.
Why do the captain and the officers parade off the stage to applause like they are part of the entertainment? I've never seen an airline pilot swagger down the aisle mid flight expecting veneration. I have to add that I haven't heard any criticism of the crew, it seems they did a good job.
You seem to be fascinated by the glass elevators. They aren't that interesting. The ship itself is gaudy and tacky, like a shopping mall transported onto a ship. Why not just go to a mall on land?
Bonus tackiness points to Costa for playing a Phil Collins song about homelessness on a luxury cruise ship.
Is it just me, or this ship looks really tacky?? What's up with all the colours by the elevator..like something from the 80's.
As for the crew 'not knowing what they're doing', you can be trained in all you want in rescue operations, but when involved in emergencies, your instincts kick in more than any training. Naturally anyone's instinct would be to jump a sinking ship, respect to the crew for fighting that urge (unlike the cowardly Captain apparently).
The Commander snap, has coordinated the rescue operations and was charged for leaving the ship when there were many people on board. The snap Commander, was persuaded by threats from the Harbour Master Port to board the ship to see if there were still people on board.
100 years after the titanic damn, sorry for the passengers lost because of a captain that liked to show off his ship, the ship didnt really sink, infact their not scrapping it, being repaired and floated back into a ship yard
Thanks for sharing this video. My prayers go out to the families of those who died and those who are still missing. We do have to commend those who helped save so many lives during the evacuation and not judge others based on what we here.
this captain felt like a playboy... greasy as hell, thinks he is the best, wants to fuck every good looking woman... when we were in rimini we met italians of that kind that owned the part of the beach where we laid (right at the see, outside of their terretory) and they came and punched one of us in the face because we were "too loud" (they were just pissed we didnt pay for their beach part and lay down in front of it)... not all italians are that way... those on giglio are heroes.
@Hubieee not all italians are like that :) i have been in rimini too i m italian and we were near to fight with some naples guys...rimini is a crazy city with crazy people
I just got back from a cruise it was called the Canival Conquest, I really feel sad about what happend and I am really glad that wasn't me, but I am praying and hoping their okay..RIP(:
i worked on cruiseships for 10 years. i don't know what's true and what isn't about the captain. I'll say this though, anyone who criticizes the crew during the evacuation as being "unorganized" or "not knowing what they were doing" can suck it! they saved 4000 people, in the dark, on a sideways ship, without thinking of themselves. they were just as scared as any passenger. you can't train for this, there is no way to. without them these people would all be dead. huge respect to the crew
@velcrots Great respect for the crew! But the staff of command, starting with the Commander, had a duty to remain on board to coordinate the rescue phase. Only one of them and stayed on the ship, and it was not the captain, nor his deputy. The Coast Guard, after the ship abando by the Staff of command, after an hour to think of threats, the Commander snap back on board to save his crew, and guests of the ship. Important minutes lost, which could save lives.
@velcrots .....We listened to all the communication between the Coast Guard, and Commander Schattin. He tried not to go till the end with all the excuses possible. Honor the rest of the crew, and died in the accident, and what remained to the last, and to save people.
The normality of life on board ship really comes across in this video, making it all the more unbelievable and very, very sad. What a terrible end for such a beautiful ship. It will live in infamy because of the craziness of one man. I don't know how he can live with it.
04:55...had the woman who stands up proudly and salutes the captain with her drink known he would sink the ship 8 weeks later, she probably would have chucked it at his face and attempted to kill him!!! :(
If the Concordia does not slip off the rocky edge and sink into deep water, it will be pumped-out and repaired. A name change most likely would also occur as the newly named ship would blend into Costa's large fleet. Costa already has has 3-other Carnival Conquest Class ships that are identical (except for interior design) to the Concordia.
Before the accident I was always thinking that these liners were managed and run by best captains. I have always imagined that any bit of movements measured with perfect precisions to avoid from even a little accident. It seems human error factor can still lead to these disasters. RIP for the people who lost their lives.
Rot in prison you cowardly Captain. Pigs have more courage and dignity than Captain Schettino. How can he live with himself, how has he not tried to kill himself by now with the shame of what he did. I could not bare to look in the mirror if I did what this cowardly rat did, I could not live with myself. This guy is not a man he is a stinking sewer rat, pond scum has more right to dignity than this sub-human animal. God bless those who died and indeed those who survived.
@sahajad If it slips off that rocky ledge and sinks into deep water, it might just stay there. As it is now, it could be pumped-out and towed back to Venice where it was built for repairs. The repairs could take up to a year according to some reports and after that a new name might be in order.
at 5:50 is the area where you can see in pics of rescue operations all the debris in the dining room, only it's veritcal and piled with chairs, tables, etc.
Thanks for posting this..giving a clear picture of just how massive the Concordia is. Difficult to imagine her completely on her side, and all furniture toppled over and broken..amazing. It's an entire city..casinos..four pools, gym, so many restaurants and bars..shops. Seeing the Captain and his officers was really interesting.
I'm curious about the multitude of survellience cameras that are (always) located in every area of cruise ships..and if those will be made available.
@Webwoche So true! Carnival and Costa ships (same owners) are decorated in the most over-the-top style! The newest Carnival ships apparently will lose their unique interiors and be decorated in a more restrained mainstream style. In a way it is sad as Carnival has been known for it's often bizarre and garish interior design.
The real Idioto has to be the 1st Mate- he should have let the capitano-stupido leave the ship and taken charge of the evacuation! And he would have been the hero of the day, and captained the ship upon its rezerection! Now, he is as guilty as the the "Capiton- El-stupido!
Hey idiots who start blaming the captain, maybe he got orders to go close to shore....then when they hit a rock, no wonder the captain isn't responding anymore. They where treathed like dogs.
@barthoedemaker i blame the captain!he adandoned the ship!!...the captain should be the last one to leave..making sure all the passengers are safe! an ordering his staff to get people into lifeboats etc.. before he gets himself to safety!..
he must of known he was going too close to the land! what did he say to the second in command?oh it's ok i can avoid the rocks! he's an idiot!
@vitalozzo2007 Champagne?
Sad, apparently one of the crew wanted to wave to his misses so thy got 2close 2the shore & 2much speed caused a big gash on the side... these sort of things shouldn't be happening in this day & age...
Ugh... pretty kitchy interior IMO. Well, its underwater now anyway...

This ship most likely will be rebuilt.
YungTodd91 1 month ago
@YungTodd91 But the ship might sink underwater before that wouldn't it ? The Titanic sank under water !
They might therefore not start another ship under the same name anyway as it would be totally in auspicious !
sahajad 1 month ago
@sahajad If it slips off that rocky ledge and sinks into deep water, it might just stay there. As it is now, it could be pumped-out and towed back to Venice where it was built for repairs. The repairs could take up to a year according to some reports and after that a new name might be in order.

its really sad to think, that the ship was only 6yrs old, she was still a baby, a treasured and sadly missed vessel!
aztech2727 1 month ago
The interiors were really awful. Carnival was in charge of decorating this ship and once again it looks like a tacky Carnival ship.
lasuvidaboy 1 month ago
@lasuvidaboy It looks like an interior decorators worst nightmare! Better salvage it before it scares away the fish.

Webwoche 1 month ago
@Webwoche So true! Carnival and Costa ships (same owners) are decorated in the most over-the-top style! The newest Carnival ships apparently will lose their unique interiors and be decorated in a more restrained mainstream style. In a way it is sad as Carnival has been known for it's often bizarre and garish interior design.

The real Idioto has to be the 1st Mate- he should have let the capitano-stupido leave the ship and taken charge of the evacuation! And he would have been the hero of the day, and captained the ship upon its rezerection! Now, he is as guilty as the the "Capiton- El-stupido!

vitalozzo2007 1 month ago
Hey idiots who start blaming the captain, maybe he got orders to go close to shore....then when they hit a rock, no wonder the captain isn't responding anymore. They where treathed like dogs.
barthoedemaker 1 month ago
@barthoedemaker i blame the captain!he adandoned the ship!!...the captain should be the last one to leave..making sure all the passengers are safe! an ordering his staff to get people into lifeboats etc.. before he gets himself to safety!..
he must of known he was going too close to the land! what did he say to the second in command?oh it's ok i can avoid the rocks! he's an idiot!

vitalozzo2007 1 month ago
@vitalozzo2007 Champagne?

The ship doesn't matter, it can be re floated and rebuilt, but the lives lost, they can never be replaced.
