Gaudy, too many colors, everything looks like it's plastic (even when it might not be). Compared to the fabulous old ocean liners of the French and Italian Lines back in the 50's & 60's, they're pretty bad (it cracks me up, too - people think the 1970's had bad taste - well, yeah, but take a look at some of the stuff in the world today!!).

You can't compare liners of the past with those nowadays. Neither in the way they're built, nor in the kind of luxury and entertainment. It's not possible to sell a cruise on an vintage built liner nowadays. It's all about money, that's all. Concordia was a beauty, I was on board 2008.

@JPRIZZY209 As sad as it is I thought the same thing but its just too huge plus the water that's filled in it would make it much more difficult to do. That's like people trying to savage a giant swimming pool when it's full of water..... unfortunately you can't. The water would have to be emptied then maybe. I also thought that they could saw it apart (big chunks). The good thing about it is that the ship is not in the center of the sea. Its deep but not as if it was in the much deeper part.

Eight weeks before sinking? Then why are their Halloween decorations starting at the 6:20 mark. Are those decorations all year round? Even after Christmas? I find that very odd, eight weeks before. Nice ship though, too bad the Captain lost his skills and training during time of need! And what upsets me, is that he had a chance to save the passengers, they weren't in the middle of nowhere, least they were by land!

@prettynis74 Well, I can't really answer for the person making the video, but eight weeks after Coststa Concordia ran aground was roughly around mid-September. Two or three weeks after Halloween. I think it is most likely kept up until they swap it out for Christmas decorations ;) That's my guess.

Halloween is celebrated generally around the world on 31st October yes? This video was take as stated by the uploader on the 2nd November 2011, 2 days after Halloween. Does it not make sense to you that the decorations are still in place just 2 days after Halloween? Explain to me please, how this is 'odd' to you?

this captain felt like a playboy... greasy as hell, thinks he is the best, wants to fuck every good looking woman... when we were in rimini we met italians of that kind that owned the part of the beach where we laid (right at the see, outside of their terretory) and they came and punched one of us in the face because we were "too loud" (they were just pissed we didnt pay for their beach part and lay down in front of it)... not all italians are that way... those on giglio are heroes.

i worked on cruiseships for 10 years. i don't know what's true and what isn't about the captain. I'll say this though, anyone who criticizes the crew during the evacuation as being "unorganized" or "not knowing what they were doing" can suck it! they saved 4000 people, in the dark, on a sideways ship, without thinking of themselves. they were just as scared as any passenger. you can't train for this, there is no way to. without them these people would all be dead. huge respect to the crew

@velcrots Great respect for the crew! But the staff of command, starting with the Commander, had a duty to remain on board to coordinate the rescue phase. Only one of them and stayed on the ship, and it was not the captain, nor his deputy. The Coast Guard, after the ship abando by the Staff of command, after an hour to think of threats, the Commander snap back on board to save his crew, and guests of the ship. Important minutes lost, which could save lives.

If the Concordia does not slip off the rocky edge and sink into deep water, it will be pumped-out and repaired. A name change most likely would also occur as the newly named ship would blend into Costa's large fleet. Costa already has has 3-other Carnival Conquest Class ships that are identical (except for interior design) to the Concordia.

@sahajad If it slips off that rocky ledge and sinks into deep water, it might just stay there. As it is now, it could be pumped-out and towed back to Venice where it was built for repairs. The repairs could take up to a year according to some reports and after that a new name might be in order.

Thanks for posting this..giving a clear picture of just how massive the Concordia is. Difficult to imagine her completely on her side, and all furniture toppled over and broken..amazing. It's an entire city..casinos..four pools, gym, so many restaurants and bars..shops. Seeing the Captain and his officers was really interesting.

I'm curious about the multitude of survellience cameras that are (always) located in every area of cruise ships..and if those will be made available.

The newest Carnival ships apparently will lose their unique interiors and be decorated in a more restrained mainstream style.
