It is called L girder because of the L shape of the supports and then you put 1 X 4 risers on top of that to get your level of the layout base . You can then screw risers to the 1 X 4 uprights to raise and lower sections of track as needed.
On your control panel what is the material that you use to show the track plan? It looks like colored shoelaces. What do you use? I am building my control panel and am looking for good ideas.
@Trainguy57 The panel is made out of Plexiglas in the track strips were done with strip styrene then the whole thing is painted and once it is dry the tops of the individual track sections are painted with ink-based paint pens that I got any art supply department of hobby lobby.
I know what you could do for that section with the trash on it. Build the entire engine facility, i.e. have coaling tower, water tower, ash dump area, etc. That's my 2c.
I guess by putting some ground cover near the turntable, you mean te bare wood area. I owuld paint the cork some dirty used ballast color. Are you intendind to have some switching near the far end of the turntable area? Or,perhaps an interchange?
What is the name of the type of bench work you used i am rather new to the hobby what is the width of your sections of your layout thanks

not much house storage for all that area even my small layout will house 12 engines
trackspike64 1 year ago
trackspike64 I might suggest you take a look at part 14 as I added some more track to the table. No more house but more work and inspection track.

There will be something in the way of switching near the table and on the way to the table.
