  • What is the name of the type of bench work you used i am rather new to the hobby what is the width of your sections of your layout thanks

  • It is called L girder because of the L shape of the supports and then you put 1 X 4 risers on top of that to get your level of the layout base . You can then screw risers to the 1 X 4 uprights to raise and lower sections of track as needed.

    Hope that helps , Mike

  • To do so I need you to send the question to the shop please , so I can send you a picture.

    Thanks , Mike

  • hi nice layout!, i was just wondering about your control panel. what is it for?

  • I need it when I run the layout on DC it really serves no function when using DCC.

    Thanks , Mike

  • @Trainguy57 The panel is made out of Plexiglas in the track strips were done with strip styrene then the whole thing is painted and once it is dry the tops of the individual track sections are painted with ink-based paint pens that I got any art supply department of hobby lobby.

    Thanks, Mike

  • Nice Turntable

  • not much house storage for all that area even my small layout will house 12 engines

  • trackspike64 I might suggest you take a look at part 14 as I added some more track to the table. No more house but more work and inspection track.

    Thanks , Mike

  • how much area does the roundhouse and other roundhouse stuff take up

  • Roughly 2' X 20"

    Thanks , Mike

  • When I start to get my control panels I hope they r good looking and wired right.

    James

Keep it up mike nice vid

  • Thanks James , It is pretty easy. Just take your time and think and re-think all the routes through before you start.

  • can u mix unitrack w/ flextrack?

  • You can but it takes an adapter track KATO-20-045 .

    Thanks , Mike

  • now is tht adapter for code 55?, thanks because there are a few places on my layout i may hace to use flex track

  • No it is code 80 but you could use a adapting atlas joiner.

    Thanks , Mike

  • thanks 4 the help!

  • Your welcome .

    Mike

  • Great Mike! The switchable DCC is an excellent idea!

How's the UniTrack on bare wood for noise?

  • I have the unitrack on Homasote but seems fairly quiet .

    Mike

  • I know what you could do for that section with the trash on it. Build the entire engine facility, i.e. have coaling tower, water tower, ash dump area, etc. That's my 2c.

  • Thanks but I no longer have any steam. I do have a modified Walthers car shop though , HMMMM!

    Thanks , Mike

  • I guess by putting some ground cover near the turntable, you mean te bare wood area. I owuld paint the cork some dirty used ballast color. Are you intendind to have some switching near the far end of the turntable area? Or,perhaps an interchange?

  • There will be something in the way of switching near the table and on the way to the table.

    Thanks , Mike
