  • ...pretty much felt her leg-muscles wrapping around my ass...

  • I see idiot/savant here. They are savants, I am an idiot.

  • i love her!!!! is so musical and so human

  • I felt as if I was there, what an interesting video!

  • Pompa Baldi is my friend, I to know him.

    Is an excellent person!!

  • @TamayoAnthony Thanks for spelling his name.

  • Whoever asked if Olga Kern has down syndrome should be very thankful he doesn't have to deal with me in person.

  • I have this DVD. We bought it from NZ and it was really expensive from here, $90.00NZD. Through Amazon.com. Man. But worth it! I must have watched it 100 times.

  • is it weird that i expected the beautiful sounds like those at 2:20 to come when i heard the banging and loudness at the beginning....for some reason i thought it was preparing me for some big beautiful loud and romantic sounds

sorta like something you'd hear when a couple ice skate

  • blessed dream :-D well... hearing her I feel closer to Rachmaninoff... she is a wonderful artist.

  • The first pianist, in the red dress. ...does she have down syndrome?

  • @Martel211996 you have a down syndrom you moron

  • AHHHHHHHHHH GOOOOOD OOOOOLGAAAA. PLAYTHEEEESE WITHOUT PEDAL!!!!!!!

  • From 0:25 and on she is totally like "Visitor #1" from David Lynch's INLAND EMPIRE.

    T o t a l l y !!

  • is that Van Cliburn? the one who is giving the medal?

look at this fingers. OMG. they are so long.

  • whats the song at 8:25

  • Can someone tell me the name of the tune at 7:35? I think it's Tchaikovsky, but couldn't be sure. Thanks!

  • it's impossible that rach himself told her she was born 30 years after he died.

  • Chorei u__u

  • That kind of passion moves the world and makes me cry.

  • rachmaninoff told her??? she must hav been born some time ago. She must've aged very well :)

  • @ginocretino, yes, she has a dream of him talking to her, lol. At the beginning she says that "At 17, I had a dream...."

    She is a phenomenal pianist

  • ohhhhh sorry i missed tht one :) yes her playing is amazing!!

  • wow...what beautiful human being!

  • Is the lady at 4:17 on the left a teacher of piano at Juliard?

  • Kaplinsky---Juilliard

  • @yamahaU3 Yep - Veda Kaplinsky. I believe she's chairwoman of the piano dept at Julliard now.

  • @yamahaU3 Now she's not a teacher from Juilliard. She's just some dumb host who thinks she's really important.

  • thank god she is a pianist and not a singer

  • She *IS* fabulous !! BRAVA !!!! ~

  • I saw her perform this weekend with the Richardson Symphony Orchestra and she was AMAZING!!! And her looks have changed so much, I was surprised. She's like a model now!

  • Since this was the 2001 VC Competition, what has Olga done over the past 8 years as well as today?

  • I saw her less than four years ago play Rachmaninov's 2nd concerto with the Syracuse Symphony, she was fabulous and looked wonderful.

  • OLGA KERN should be heard a great deal more. She is a superb pianist. One of many, of course, but I hope her career fares well. I like her SO much better than Lisitska, who is a pianistic genius with a prodigious repertoire, but Olga has deeper musicianship, and is a colossal virtuoso as well.

  • She gave me goosebumps. Very few people can do that.

  • Ogla and all the winners are so wonerful!! They all have so much passion when they play. Each note has a meaning when they play.

  • Rachmaninoff jest fantastyczny ! Gra rewelacyjna !

  • A great talent!

  • Olga is a beautiful talent. Love to hear her play !

    This is so great!

  • Well the award ceremony moved me to tears, facinating how tears are there for the joy. Look at the length of the fingers on Van's hands when he Hugs Olga at the award ceremony. You can get this film on Netflix, a wonderful film. I'm a guitar player myself. I suppose a guitar is like a piano a bit, with the strings and the fideling with the vibration of them.

  • That performance seriously almost moved me to tears! That was incredible

  • Tome, Olga is the most worthy winner of this competition since its establishment. But don't underesimate Pompa Baldi. I've heard him and he's phenomenal.

  • Unreal!

  • I'm crying....

  • is the girl at 5:25 Helene Grimaud??

  • I thought so for a sec but I think thats Stanislav Ioudenitch's wife. She was seated near him and they showed her when he won. Also if you watch the footage at the end as the credits scroll by you'll see the two of them playing with a little girl who I assume is his daughter.

  • Hi dmcll-

You can buy the DVD at shop(dot)cliburn(dot)org online, or you can call Susie at 817.738.6536 and buy it by phone.

    thanks!

    Emily @ Van Cliburn Foundation

  • Olga,the best,she's incredible.

  • She's playing "Rachmaninoff's piano concerto n°3".Welcome:)

  • Thanks everyone for the answer. This is the same one as in 'Shine'??

  • Yes, its the same piece, precisely:)

  • RACH 3!!!!

  • Thx for sharing - great posting=

  • absolutely brilliant!

  • WOW!

  • Brilliant! The most outstanding player of our new generation.

  • the conductor is james conlon isnt it?

  • Brilliant! Brava! TY.

  • the conductor almost drops the baton at 3:40. haha lol.

olga kern is great. her story is really funny.

  • olga is like my favorite cliburn comp winner lol. she is absolutely amazing

  • I had the luck to listen to several Stanislav Ioudenitch's concerts in Italy and I confess he's absolutely amazing!!!

He's an unbelievable virtuoso and a great artist too!

It's a pitty that on youtube there aren't any videos with Stanislav playing.

  • I know, I'm SURPRISED that the Van Cliburn Foundation has not posted any videos of the heartbreak kid here on YouTube. Do you know where I can find any CDs of Stanislav Loudenitch? Please let me know.

  • Does Stanislav tour in the US? Please let me know. If so, I would love to listen to him in person. I've only heard and seen Olga in person, and her level of virtuosity was so impressive!!

  • Thank you for your request.

    We'll post a clip shortly.

    Stay tuned.

  • Thank you, I truly appreciate such amazing pianists such as Olga and Stanislav, Olga just completely impressed me!!!

  • Last I've heard, he lives and tours in the USA and elsewhere. He may still be an 'artist in residence' at a mid-western college. Do wiki for details. On his name, Ioudenitch has a partly French origin, he told me. Pronounced: You DEN' itch. At one time he said that he was thinking of changing the spelling because the "Iou" part puzzled English speakers, but I guess he gave that idea up.

  • LOL! The look on their faces when they found out that 3rd place was not awarded!

  • In 1997, Loudenich had a suffered a serious accident and needed to drop out of competition. He was heart broken but after some consideration, he said he would be back.

So in 2001, he returned and was a co-winner along with Olga Kern. The Heart Break Kid never gave up! So happy for him.

  • Why is Stanislav called "the heart break kid"?

  • That statement I made to describe Stanislav was not meant to say that he broke the hearts of others but how he had been personally hurt by dropping out of the competition. Good or bad, that was choice.

  • why did he drop out in 1997?

  • I didn't quite understand the announcer's pronunciation...does anyone know the name of the guy that tied with Olga for 1st place??

  • Stanislav Ioudenitch

  • If they BOTH tied for 1st place, why only show a video of Olga? Please make a video of Stanislav Loudenitch!

  • That's what I've been saying all along, that she's a beautiful woman apart from being such an outstanding pianist.

  • Olga is a babe. She looks good and plays magnificently.

  • She looks SO BEAUTIFUL in that little, red dress!! Red must be her favorite color to wear, because she was also wearing a red dress when I heard and saw her in person.

  • I'm so glad I'm not one of the judges, they have the hard task of figuring out the narrow margins of who wins, and who doesn't!!

  • Olga has a cute Russian accent! :-)

  • I heard and saw Olga Kern in person about 7 months ago, and I was just completely impressed by her brilliant virtuosity!!

  • omg that face.. :P she play wonderfull

  • She is remarkably talented!

  • She is amazing *_*

  • lol she is ownage, one of the best interpretations of rach 3 yet! she owns this concerto and shows what the true meaning of beauty is

  • Olga's program and concert info is now up on the Edison Symphony Website

  • What could be more enjoyable than Olga storming thru the Rachmaninoff?

  • Unbelievable performance from Olga. She is SO passionate! Definitely worthy of gold!!!

  • I definitely agree, she is one of the best rachmaninoff concerto interpreters...and she is hilarious lol

  • LMAO... Look at the conductor that almost tripped at about 3:41!

Anyways, I love the way she plays the last mvt. of this piece.

  • Olga Kern will be performing Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No.1 with the Edison Symphony, October 14, 2007, State Theatre, New Brunswick, NJ

  • does anyone know the background song playing when olga is speaking on the telephone? Ive heard it before but can never place it =/
