Situations like these aren't as simple as "he thinks he's a girl; let him be a girl," nor "he thinks he's a girl; make him be a boy." There's no easy or obvious way to deal with the situation. Gender identity issues are complicated and unique to the individuals involved. It's not necessarily something to be as ashamed of, but it is a problem.

Some of these comments are horrible. He's not a queer. Gender Identity Disorder is a real thing for many people. The people who have it, are people with the brain of the opposite sex. Any physical act made against these people can be considered hate crime. If you don't know what you are talking about then you shouldn't comment. @DoctorHver That's basically what it is... Someone with Gender Identity Disorder appears to be one sex, but feels they are the other sex... It's not an easy thing to explain and you have to be open to understanding this along with any other type of disorder. Clearly, you don't appear to be open to it by saying you don't care. I just don't feel like people should say anything unless they understand what they are talking about.

@DoctorHver I was going to stay out of this, but chromosomes are not the sole characteristic that determines sex. There are women who are born physically female who have XY chromosomes and vice versa who NEVER suspect anything. And even so, there are also people who are born with deformities or diseases that can be traced to genetics...just because they come from genetics, does that mean we should not try to help these people medically?

So sex chromosomes are the pure indicator of person is sex, if the chromosomes are completly healthy, if not it should be treated as cerfully as possible.
@DoctorHver Chromosomes are blueprints, it is hormones that form the body. Like with any blueprints, they are not always followed to the T. I say if the hormones create a brain that is female, it doesn't matter if the person has a Y chromosome, because chromosomes are not seen by other people, but your identity is something you deal with all day, every day. If you are building a house, and the final result had to be compromised, then does it really matter what the blueprints said?

The only thing that could count as a tentative of an argument is when she offered a counter-example to his claim, when she told the fact that the kid was really close to the father which is in opposite to the Doctor's theory. Transgenders are different, not disordered and capable of being 'conditioned'. His book for parents on how to prevent homosexuality? Someone call the UN already. I did a project on gender identity disorder for college a couple of months ago. As far as GID is concerned there is legitimate research and evidence to show that the brain is "wired" differently . Take hermaphrodites for an example: these people are born with partial or fully developed sex organs of both genders. With GID it's all to do with chromosomes. It's not just XY or XX it can be XYX or XXY even. please look it up if you wish :D

Also, all this talk about homosexuality is irrelevant, because transsexuality is NOT the same thing as homosexuality and even if it were possible to "treat" homosexuality, the treatment should not be the same as treatment for transsexuality. Transsexuality is NOT just a more severe version of homosexuality, so people (including Nicolosi and Stanton) need to get past that assumption.
The important thing to realize is that this woman obviously didn't come on this show to discuss whether or not her child should have transitioned....her problem wasn't THAT the child transitioned, it was about how she was dealing with it, personally. Bringing people on the show to debate this decision which has already been made wouldn't have helped her OR the child.

Gender identity IS an illness. 95% of people suffer from it. This child may have nurturing tendencies or other things than he associates with womanhood but there is no reason that a man cannot possess those qualities. He has psychological trauma and a hate for the shape of his body because he has been taught that the shape of his body mandates who he is, and he has bought into the narrow western concept of masculinity. Do you know what they are saying did to me? I developed blocks on my personality because if I did not toughen up I would get beat. Some of these comments are horrible. He's not a queer. Gender Identity Disorder is a real thing for many people. The people who have it, are people with the brain of the opposite sex. It's not an easy thing to explain and you have to be open to understanding this along with any other type of disorder. Clearly, you don't appear to be open to it by saying you don't care. There are women who are born physically female who have XY chromosomes and vice versa who NEVER suspect anything. And even so, there are also people who are born with deformities or diseases that can be traced to genetics...just because they come from genetics, does that mean we should not try to help these people medically?

@DoctorHver Chromosomes are blueprints, it is hormones that form the body. Like with any blueprints, they are not always followed to the T. I say if the hormones create a brain that is female, it doesn't matter if the person has a Y chromosome, because chromosomes are not seen by other people, but your identity is something you deal with all day, every day. If you are building a house, and the final result had to be compromised, then does it really matter what the blueprints said?

I did a project on gender identity disorder for college a couple of months ago. As far as GID is concerned there is legitimate research and evidence to show that the brain is "wired" differently . Take hermaphrodites for an example: these people are born with partial or fully developed sex organs of both genders. With GID it's all to do with chromosomes. It's not just XY or XX it can be XYX or XXY even. please look it up if you wish :D

The only thing a 2 yr old should tell his mommy is that he has to poop. As soon as he said anyhing about wanting to be a lil girl his parents should have either spanked him or explain to him what he is. I know that most gays believe that Gods constantly making mistakes by placing them in the wrong body, but not everyones that ignorant. If the lil boy wanted to be a super hero do you buy him a cape and tights and tell him to fly? No, so why buy him a dress when he saids he wants to be a girl.

Ok,this is all confusing to me.Ive always been like a guy but ive never thought bout all this till recently cuz i didnt really think bout it,i didnt even know wat it was but im now 17 and i just dont feel right.im confusedi never called myself a boy wen i was lil,i just would always say tht i wish i was one and then i got a guy's haircut at age 6 but now i feel kind of weird..i look at myself and i just feel ashamed,kind of ashamed tht im physicly a girl.is it posible2feel like this@a older age?

It is a chemical reaction but with so many people being religious it is plain wrong for someone to feel like they are the srong gender and they have to conform to what they are instead of what they should be.

If my son, or daughter, had this condition it wouldn't bother me as long as they were happy. I'm not religious what so ever so people being who they wanna be is ok by me.

@grdrev I don't have anything set in stone. If u make a good argument i will accept it as so. Many research u speak of r merely theories, that means opinions. T.v. uses a lot of phycological methods to sell stuff. Parent r told let your kids be. One Side affect boy likes girl toy vise versa. Many of todays parent think if the kid is watching disney then it is ok, with little guiding of the child is comfortably brainwash by companies trying to sell things. I believe you are born who you are going to be. Sure, experiences play a major role in the turn out, BUT NOT ALL. Their "theories" did not match her situation, therefore, their statement is false. And it is worse that they try to push it on and totally ignore her. I also hate the fact they see this as a problem as with homosexuality.

This woman is SO defensive that it makes think that deep down she's still unhappy about her son becoming a girl. It's like she is in denial or something. I think that doctor seating next to her, brained washed her, but deep down she knows that this is all wrong and that she fears that it won't lead to a happy ending.

Gays can't be cured. Why should they? They are a variation among us -like me having blue eyes when yours are brown. Almost any straight idiot can make babies but with gays or lesbians only the best parents can adopt. I would rather give my baby to a devoted gay couple than to about 80% of the population that's this ignorant and stupid. Many gays are from complitely normal families and many straight people are from very weird ones without turning gay. It's about who you love and are attracted to.

@hypoksifilia Many of these "devoted" gay people were Married Straight people and "decided to be honest about who they are" right after they procreate with thier straight spouse. Lesbians in particular seemed to have this revelation with in a few years of bearing a child. So the duped hetrosexual spouse is left bereft of a husband or a wife and thier child half the time. Meanwhile the gay spouse is "free"!
