Have just seen Johnny sing this song at his three concerts in England and he was FANTASTIC!!! His voice is pure velvet and simply stunning. Thank you for posting this as it brings back some very special memories.
@flodigarry1 thanks for sharing- sounds like a wonderful experience for everyone- Johnny's UK tour- . This is always a favorite- and he sings it so beautifully- velvet - perfect description. You're welcome- enjoy.
Back in my school days, I attended Roosevelt Jr. High in S.F. with Johnny. He sang this beautiful song at a school rally...He sounded just as good then as he does now!
@MrZip61 Oh my goodness! What a wonderful memory and thank you so much for sharing this!! Shows he was fully engaged- as we already know- in the love of beautiful music from an early age. Thanks again:)
I just saw him in concert in Sacramento, CA last Saturday....PHENOMENAL! He's still able to hit the high ones, and this song was just almost enough to make me slide right out of my seat. He's such an amazing voice. It's so refreshing to hear MUSIC...not screaming, not language, or things offensive to this group of that...just wonderful, talented voice...one that could sing ANYTHING. Well worth it, even for nosebleed seats! WOW.
@singchef1965 - Hi Bruce- glad to provide this to go with your own imagery and sound... hmm- do I 'hear' a new video coming?? Enjoy - have a great day.
Not a samba version, but, otherwise -- other than the imcomparable JM, the best version of them all, is that of Timi Yuro. Give a listen -- but only if you want to hear true emotion, true feeling, and great vocalism.
Johnny feels everything he sings. I could listen to him sing 24/7. No one will ever compare to him. He is one of a kind. Such a rare talent. Thank you so much for posting this. Such a beautiful song and he makes it even better.
@MrCharleysmom so glad you like it and are enjoying all of these- very kind words. Johnny is singularly wonderful -just as you say. You're welcome- this is so lovely and such a favorite of many. Maybe he will record it one day. Enjoy!
Can someone tell me what cd he recorded this wonderful song on? I was lucky enough to hear him sing this live. I would love to have a copy of this for my collection.
@Blondediamonds1 - Actually to date Johnny has not recorded this beautiful song on a CD- it's such a wonderful song and a favorite among concert goers- as you know from hearing him perform it as well. This recording was from a BBC radio airing of one of Johnny's multi - show UK tours - this one from 1993. Please enjoy:)
@beweau You're very welcome- I love this song and I am a lover of Samba and Brazilian music- Johnny's interpretation is so sumptuous- i don't think that's over stated. I do like another 'version'- but not more than his- but worth listening to- Stan Getz- who could do with a sax what Johny does with his voice- has a great interpretation from his concert on the left bank in Paris-. Enjoy.
Hello Leonore, and thank you for sharing the lovely rendition of this beautiful old song. Johnny gives it a mesmerizing samba-sound, and thereby makes even this song his own. And of all those other preformers who sung it in the past, I liked Billy Ecksteins version the best. (I'm sure that Johnny does too, having great appreciaton and admitation for Billy) The best female singer of this song I mean is Connie Francis. From Norway: Berit.
@powermixstudio - thanks for commenting- appreciate it. It's such a wonderful song- those fortunate to see Johnny in person usually have a chance to hear it. Incredible. Enjoy.
Thank you so much for this wonderful music, that has yet to be recorded, what a special treat. The graphics are very nice, as usual, keep up the nice work.
@partridgelady - Thank you, Sharon, it is such a wonderful song- and so many people love hearing Johnny sing it- so I was pleased to be able to provide it. Appreciate your nice comments! And thanks again for your photo share- such a nice finish. Enjoy>
@petertcain - Hi Peter- I am so very very glad you found this and that I was able to provide it- it is such a magical song when sung by him- it's a beautiful song on it's own- but let's face it- when Johnny touches a song- it's his forever. I'm sure we agree. Hopefully he will record it one day- or make another recording of a live performance in which he sings it- we can hope! Enjoy- and thanks so much for coming by and sharing your enthusiasm- You're very welcome.
To me this music by Johnny Mathis is real music and a real beautiful voice with it. To bad I can't say the same for today's music. Just a lot of slop. The singers of today all sound like they had a bad case of indigestion!!!
@1rickmar - I agree that it's real music to me- that said- there are all kinds of tastes- and talents- I have to admit -that under the influences of my sons- I have listened to and appreciated things I wouldn't have listened to before. BUT- there is only and will only ever be one Johnny Mathis- a voice that surely 'stirs' the angels:) glad you enjoyed it.

Ive been waiting so long to hear this
version by the great Johnny Mathis.
Its a magical song and this is the first
chance Ive had the privilage of acually
hearing Johnny performing it.
Even though Ive been able to see many
of his concerts live Ive never been lucky
enough to hear him sing it.
You have made my day - thanks - Peter
