  • This is brilliant

  • 2:26 - 2:34 is the best

  • As great as Lawler is in these, Jimmy Hart is just as awesome.

  • Holy shit, never knew Kaufman was so instrumental in creating the WWE/WWF/whatever-it-is-now style of ringside drama. Man... Fools make major bank now days by following this exact formula... Create hate, create a hero... Well done sir.

  • Jimmy you should be from Hollywood too!

    Classic!

  • Lawlers goat tee looks like the Rebel Insignia

  • wow...andy really goes for the jugular.

  • Man Kaufman is a natural born heel. Awesome mic skills!

  • Jerry the King Lawler...they don't make 'em like that anymore. Lawler is pure cool.

  • who's the one helping the king?

  • i like the assassins i have no problem with them but that andy is a prick

  • This angle worked to perfection because 1.) Lawler, himself was put in the hospital at some point. Andy didn't lose all the time he was in Memphis and 2.) Jerry Jarrett, Lawler, Hart, and Kaufman all took their time to work this angle. From 1982 to 1983???

  • i'll say it once...i'll say it again...speidi/their ilk (i e danni staub/et al) ain't got nothing on andy kaufman...he's still the original...they're all pretenders 2 this king's throne...long may he reign...

  • that looks like the crown blassie used 2 wear during his "king of men" days back in the 50s-60s...maybe he gave it 2 andy 2 wear during this stint in memphis...

  • Jimmy Hart flipping the shade up = money.

  • 2.17 Andy coughs due to cancer?

  • lol.....Lawler is a horrible actor, and so sanctimonious.

  • "we're gonna call you kareem abdul hart by the time we've finished wringing your scrawny neck...aint no jive...."

    love it

  • 4:34

Kaufman doing the Ric Flair. Woooooo!

  • take me to your leader

  • NOPE - Jerry B;ackwell

  • @48mwl Yep-you're right....amazing similar look to each though...except Haystacks was 6' 11'' !

  • That was British wrestling legend "Giant Haystacks" at 6:50 !!!!! Before he died, he was officially the heaviest man in Britain!

  • awesome! :D

  • @Stereolabdream I remember I used to love watching haystacks and big daddy go at it every saturday afternoon.

remember the grasshopper? he lives just up the road from me

  • Ain't no jive.

  • Was these Assassins here, Don Bass and Roger Smith?

  • Lawler shows what missing in Wrestling these days and thats Pure Emotion

  • I was at this match. We wanted to kill Jimmy Hart and Andy Kaufman, literally. That's how Memphis fans are. Jerry Lawler is a Memphis Icon.

  • you do realize that this was all a scripted plot, everybody was in on it including Lawler. both Andy and Lawler loved each other like brothers. read his bio.

  • At the time I was about 11, and LOVED Lawler and HATED all his opponents except Dundee. I was such a mark then, as most Memphis fans were.

  • @playboydig12 Did you guys remember to follow Andy's tips and use soap and toilet paper?

  • @aeb71 Nope, but we DID remember that your wife and mom prefer the smell and taste of Irish Spring and White Cloud near Memphian genetalia. Whether it was on a man or woman was optional.

  • @playboydig12 Memphian genetalia??? That's big fancy words for a hillbilly like you. Celebrate by having a dixie cup of 'shine for me, boy!

  • @aeb71 Dixie cup? What's that? I won't respond to your blatantly racist attitude. And by th way, I'm white. Blond hair, blue eyes, etc. Shine my pubes, Poser!!!!!!!!!!

  • @playboydig12 What the f are you talking about? I didn't mention anything about a dixie cup. Learn to read you hick.

  • @playboydig12 You forgot to mention that you are young, dumb, and full of cum (in your mouth). You misspelled "the" . Good job, jackass.

  • too bad the booking team at TNA or WWE will never be able to give us this kind of stuff. This makes me miss the good ol days....Thanks for posting this

  • Shave Idols head and ya got a precursor to the Texas Rattlesnake Stone Cold Steve Austin.

  • Yeah that was my first thought too. As soon as Idol (who I had heard of and read about when I was little in PWI) opened his mouth I thought "Oh that's where Steve Austin got everything". You don't even need to shave Idol's head because Austin used to have blonde hair a lot like this when he first got started. Incidentally, The Rock was a huge ripoff of Iceman King Parsons.

  • Except I do not think Stone Cold lost his feet in a plane crash like Idol did. True Story. BTW, if you morph them together, you get: Stone Cold Steve Austin Idol

  • Lawler was a freakin badass. Still love his over the top antics lookin for "puppies" but ya can't beat his hardass character.

  • LOL AK was the perfect wrestling heel.

  • boy this reminds me of the whole david arquette run in wcw

  • the diference is the arquette angle was used to promote a movie, and this was used to promote wrestling

  • these episodes are out of order

  • Boy, that Russell is more biased than Dan Rather

  • is that one man gang at 6:47 ?

  • crusher blackwell

  • LOL so did he make that check out to "the assasins"?

  • Popculturestu,

Thanks so much for posting this classic interview and match.

    DanfromDallas

  • at 2:16 Jimmy Hart is thinking "this guy is a genius"

  • :OMG this guy doesnt know when to shut the fuck up :S even when they got his ass kicked

  • If Andy would've lived on he could've become a wrestling manager, granted he was an actor but he had the general concept of heel psychology in his acts

  • They sure are dressed like the Assassins.

  • this is the original assassians

  • Kareem Abdul-Hart.

    Yes, that is indeed awesome.

  • Does anyone know if Koffman knew at this point that he had Cancer? This was close to the end of his stint with Memphis Wrestling.

  • According to Wikipedia (I know, I know) Kaufman found out around Thanksgiving '83. In some of the videos I'll post shortly leading up to their boxer vs wrestler matches you'll see that Andy just didn't look good. His cough also becomes more apparent in some of his interviews.

  • He had a very rare form of lung cancer.I guess he went to his doctor and found a lump on the back of his neck

  • @popculturestu you're right. In that last interview that Jerry Lawler had with Andy right before their last match on November 21,1983. Andy just didn't look good at all. He looked so ill. Of course, during that last match, you couldn't tell how Andy looked because the video wasn't that good of quality and most of the footage was filmed from a distance. But Popculture, thank you for posting all these videos. These videos show the true comic genius of Andy.

    All the best,

    Dan

  • lol idol was great in this
