This song brings back so many good memories. Last year me and my buddies went on a cruise trip of our lives. Every night i used to put myself to sleep with this album, generally this song coming first...I almost want to cry listening to this song. Music has too much power!
Its a shame people cant chose what they like because honestly everyone deserves to feel what isis fans feel when they listen to their music. GOD DAMN! ITS SO AWESOME!
panopticon is definitely the best isis album. so did we rules when it comes to the last part of the song and at 6.15 there is a screamin` and terrifying sound of the background guitar and keys, blows me up to pieces each time i hear this track.
they kind of have elements that remind me of Hacride and Mastodon, respectively. but nobody really matches their sound that i know. definitely a great band
may have mentioned it before but once again.. one of my all time fav tracks.. a beautifully desolate place i can retreat to whenever i need to reflect..
I bought Panopticon on a whim because I heard that Isis were similar to Neurosis, a band that I was just starting to get into at the time. It sounds really pretentious to say, but most Isis fans (myself included) will tell you that hearing the simultaneous exquisite beauty and slashing rawness of it all is really quite life altering. I do not view music the same. The space and the layering of many simple parts to create one massive wall of ear candy is a breath of fresh air to metal.
Guys i really love isis but i am not so sure about the kind of music that they play.what kind of metal is it?i think they are unic so no other band plays like them :D
Sludge is the term most used to define them. Some say atmospheric metal. Ambient metal. Post metal. Post rock. Welcome to the world of tags.
There are plenty of bands like Isis. Neurosis are considered the fathers of Isis. Cult of Luna are similar. Red Sparowes, Pelican, Rosetta. You'll find that there are absolutely zero bands that no one else sounds like.
tspencley3 if anything is trash it would be your stupid ignorant statements. Isis and Russian Circles are different bands...Isis being the better of the two but RC is definitely not trash. But just because they are not Isis does not make them bad. So shut the fuck up.
It is about seeing life as a panopticon, or a prison in which you are being watched by its creator, but within which you are helpless. "Yet resistance would be brought," he says as the melodic line that follows that lyric symbolizes a striving but inability to break free.
This band amazes me. Panopticon is by far my Isis favorite, but all of their albums are killer. Thumbs up to them for being bad asses. They have the AmericanDICKHEADs seal of approval. FUCK YEAH!!
The greatest thing about Isis is how 3 out of their four albums could potentially be my favorite. I think I'm gonna have to go with Celestial, though.
??? can you explain a little more??? I get this ice cavern feel when I listen to it. Doesn't really turn me on, but I do find it extremely beautiful. It is very moving, and as far as metal goes, this band is on the front line pushing the boundaries of what is metal and what metal can accomplish! Hell ya!
Has anyone heard of the bands pelican and red sparrowes...alot like this. My friend introduced me to this kinda instrumental rock stuff. its friggen awesome.
red sparrowes were good, but against Russian Circles. i saw them in Vancouver together but i'd have to vote for Russian Circles. but that's awesome info about isis and red sparrows...definitely like them all in their own little ways
have u heard of mouth of the architect? id figure you have if u have seen russian circles! russian circles are really good too! i prefer the station album! the ties that bind is a incredible album from mota tho!
Yeah they are all amazing bands. If you like all this stuff, you also need to check out Russian Circles, Daturah, Long Distance Calling, Tunturia and especially The Seven Mile Journey. There are so many great instrumental rock bands, etc.
Yeah Russian Circles is really cool. With vocals you might check out Bossk and Rosetta and Mouth of the Architect. They are quite similar to Isis. Or Neurosis, but they are quite different from Isis.
"Post-metal is a music genre, a mixture between the genres of post-rock and heavy metal, with roots in progressive rock, progressive metal, shoegazing, and industrial music. It is broadly characterized by distorted guitar, heavy atmospherics, gradual evolution of song structure, and a minimal emphasis on vocals."
yeah. this is probably the best song i have ever heard in my life, so well composed so beautiful, so atmospheric, it is the best thing especially at 6:15 when that other guitar kicks in with the high notes, so beautiful. turn it all the way up and close your eyes you will understand.
That's one excellent song... I didn't really think I'd like post metal, but if all post metal bands incorporate such great doom riffs into their music, maybe the genre worths a try.

Our skin worn thin
Our bones exposed
Life reduced to ticks
From forest caves and azure skies
We crashed upon this earth
The years they passed and so did we
Yet resistance would be brought

Spectacular emotions in these lyrics...
