The arbitration system we have has much more to do with the murder rate than firearms. If you only criminalize coercive acts and legalize all voluntary acts the crime rate would go down as much as is humanly possible.

I always wondered, if a person is a potential risk of harming themself or others, or are charged with a crime that renders that person unable to obtain a gun, and the circumstances change in the future to being a stable person or significant time has passed since the crime, can that person have a right to bear arms & own a gun? Is there a certain process to go through?

OK so we should make guns illegal? Let's see how many people making murder, rape, child molestation, robbery and other crimes has helped, Oh call the police? Well after they beat you up rape your wife and daughter, I imagine calling the police might be the thing to do if you are still alive or have the ability to wait 30 minutes for them to arrive. Gun ownership is the most important right because in the US legal system, it is the only justification for ANY OTHER LAW OR RIGHT. For about 100 years, the Supreme Court has openly declared that force is the only justification.

Of course the gun industry (who are the real power behind the NRA) is against ANYone being denied the right to buy a gun.

Gun banners are using this BS "study" to claim NRA members would support banning guns without due process for millions of Americans on the secret "terrorist watch list". Children, grandmothers in wheelchairs, and even members of congress are on that stupid "terrorist watch list" and the fact is anyone and everyone can be placed on the list for little or no reason at all!

Coming as it does--during the Brady Bunch's current push for some sort--ANY SORT--of pro-gun-control interest--this PBS 'preview' is at best a minimizing of the intent of Luntz' commissioned survey, and at worst a duplicitious statement that really is just propaganda for the gun-control crowd.

it's all in how you ask the questions--as Frank well knows. But, behind that is the real problem of how the responders were identified as NRA members--well, self-reporting. It's a worthless survey.

I've always suspected this about the average American on most issues. There are extremists and the extremists often get disporportionate media attention, but most Americans are moderates. The NRA has a powerful voice because of lots of money, but oddly the leadership is more extreme in it's beliefs than it's members. Shouldn't the NRA represent its own members?
