  • @pilotman123321 You have either Vista Home Basic or Vista Home Premium. Only Ultimate and higher have this feature.

  • lol at : 4:14 Very funny hhh!!!

  • why do you bother hiding your IP, your IP is 208.87.33.150 ... should i plan an udp bomb :) nah, your ok, not an idiot, you seem to be going in right direction ;)

    Very helpful video.

  • thank you! how can i connect to a computer on another network, do i need a vpn or something? i want to help my mom but she is in across the country!

  • @dan0starr Remote Desktop is a business feature. :-/ You can connect *from* any Windows PC (or Mac or Linux computer), but you can only connect *to* an Ultimate, Enterprise, or Business edition Widows PC.

  • @alwaysmc2 so since I have home premiem... I'm screwed? I'm trying to connect to an XP pro. what do I do?

  • Nice hair Asian women ***lushfmlk.info***

  • How do I use this option from 7 to windos vista? This is only for local computers. What if the other pc is in another country?

  • Home editions of Vista don't support Remote Desktop. The host has to be running Professional, Business, or Ultimate to connect to it.

  • @dan0starr mine dont either! ahh wtf i need help

  • Thank you- This was very helpful!

  • Try to make up your hair next time. You look totally nerd.

  • Hey for all use that don't get those options try typing click on system and then type it in :D

  • @dan0starr Me to i have windows vista basic

  • @dan0starr same problem here....

  • @adanup me too

  • If you have Home/Starter versions, you will not have the three options about allowing connections from other computers

  • when i get to part were i put in my router ip... i put it in ad i get

    401 Unauthorized

    Authorization required.

what did i do or were did i go rong?

  • @geovannir8 It means your IP adress is secured by a password

  • Can U Help Me --- At 0:38 I Do not Have Those 3 Options (remote Desktop)

Do You Know How I Can Get Them

  • @dan0starr Its only on Pro or Ultimate versions.

  • If you are using a wireless router doesnt the router assign you a different private IP address whenever you log on (depending on how many other computers/devices are on your home network)? Wouldnt that make remote desktop virtually impossible to set up access to outside your home network? The listening port will have no clue which is the right machine to connect to. I may very well be connected to one of the other 5 laptops in my house being used by various people or the 5 iPhones and 2 iPods.

  • Alright here is what you do to get the three options, go to control panel -> system -> advance system settings -> then the remote tab, if that is what your looking for.

  • I have a laptop wich use windows vista. I am wanting to connect my laptop to take control of the desktop i have which is also windows vista, but we are using netgear as our router. How do i do that? and error keeps on popping up in my scren saying unable to connect.

  • Cmd then type ipconfig is lots easier way to get the ip

  • ip dont work....i was told u can use a ip, i tried an ip then a gateway but still no work

  • @dan0starr same....no wunder vista SUCKS!!!!!!!

  • i need some help, my cousin recently se t one up for me (vista to vista) and i could use it to go on any website on the school computers, how do i set it up? he had it passworded and stuff

  • @dan0starr home premium does not have the ability to be connected to w/o a program like teamviewer. (I may be wrong though)

  • 3. be careful who you give your ip address to. Imagine an ip address as a key...

you wouldn't give your key to someone one the street.. protect it..

    part 2

  • 1. you are freaking cute.. whoopsie.. lol.. omg..

    2. For those of you who this is not working... remote desktop only works with vista professional/ultimate. Vista Home basic/premium will not have access to it. You can access another computer.. but you cannot access one operating vista home basic/premium (ie your own)

there are hacks for it.. but tread lightly they require you to alter windows components.

    part 1

  • have my PC and laptop both running 7 can connet using my laptop to my desktop but cannot go back the other way both have the same settings anyone got any idea's

  • I have that 2 options not must i install it ?

  • I tired all of this and it still doesnt work. god dammit

  • i have a problem when i go to remote assist. the bottom part is not there for me to click and do it. then when i type my ip in my browser thats does not come up either... ive set up remote asst befor and never had these problems but i have them now and dont know what to do

  • @deadcrazzy

    Type in your default gateway.

  • you couldnet do a windows 7 one could you???

  • my computer, Windows Vista Home Premium, only shows the top part (see video at 0:28) and not the bottom part Remote Desktop. Would anybody tell me why and how to fix it, if it needs fixing, please thank you much

  • Home Premium does not come with this feature

  • that sucks !!!!!!!!!

    thank you OCE

  • @OCE4500 WHAT A FUCKING JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!! how can basic home have it but premium does not...

  • hye mine has the smae promblem as ur i have the top part but not the bottom

  • do you know of any way to "fix" it ?? InuyashaWind.....

  • actually i dont ive been working on it for days trying to fix it but i cant figure it out

  • I found a similar option under the advanced tab, at the bottom

  • Great Video! Followed your steps but getting an error when trying to connect from another network."This computer can't connect to the remote computer because the Terminal Services Gateway server address requested and the certificate subject name do not match." Any ideas on this error?

  • after i click on allow remote access to your computer and system properties comes up, theres only a box for remote assistance, how do i get the box that says remote desktop???

  • thanks brotha

  • my guess would be go onto your router and block the port for your computer's ip address.

    It was 33## or whatever.

  • what did you need to 'fuzz' out at 3:37

  • if you dont have a password set to your account on your computer you may want to set one. if you already have a password set to your account i suggest that you change that. if it still continues then go to control panel and int eh search bar type remote and click search. in the list it provides you. click "do not allow anyone to connect to my computer remotely". good luck and i hope that helps!

  • Wow, I thought you just had to type in the IP adress and then entre the user name and password. Is this the only way pssible? Thanks for posting the video though I will try it :)

  • This is great, but next time, you need to go A LOT slower for those of us who are new to this stuff. I found that I had to pause and rewind your video quite a bit when I was trying to set up Remote Desktop while following your directions.

  • Can you show me how to use remote desktop connection and remote access?

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • can you do this if you're computer isn't connected to a wireless network?

  • Ty i did help me :D

But you can do it too on windows 7 and iphone :P just write you ip :P

  • Great walk-through, thanks for the great video!

  • This ain't helpful 4 me. I have Vista Home Premium and u cannot make a Remote Desktop connection to it. U can however use it 2 connect 2 Vista Ultimate and XP Professional PC's but i wanna get the hack 2 unlock it 4 Home Premium

  • Just use Logmein. com it's free and it doesn't matter what version of Vista you have.

  • Too late now. I don't have Vista Home Premium no more, i have Windows XP Professional instead :D lol that's got RDP

  • WAT IS THIS

  • you can't hack him because you don't know is router pass

  • the three options there at 0:38 dont show up. how do i get them to apear

  • i have heard alot of other people say that.....what version of Vista do you have?

  • i have home premium

  • I think those options are only available for 'business' use. Thus Business and Ultimate will have those options. (Microsoft's more power to the user thing....)

  • Taken right from MS.

Notes * You cannot use Remote Desktop Connection to connect to computers running Windows Vista Starter, Windows Vista Home Basic, Windows Vista Home Basic N, or Windows Vista Home Premium. You can, however, connect from those editions of Windows Vista to computers running other versions of Windows. * You cannot use Remote Desktop Connection to connect to computers running Windows XP Home Edition.

  • it is set to allow access from older PC's from default on mine... try under "advanced"

  • i dont have that option is that for ultimate

  • It's pronounced roo-ter

    Not Row-uter.

  • OK, you need to get rid of the smilly things! :) My computer runs XP, but has the windows vista remote desktop. Was that an update?

  • what is the user name and password? not your of curse, but were do i get it?

  • mine dosent either.

  • Idk why it doesnt work althought i did everything u said....

  • You can enable through a hack Google Vista Home RDC hack

  • I think remote desktop is only available in Vista Business and Ultimate and not in other versions...

  • 0:40 lolz out of date computers...like tha xp onez!!!!hahaha

  • Mine does not have the option to choose whether you want old versions or just new versions..

  • Ok, lots of crap you have to do. Microsoft should of made a easyer way of setting up networks. But I think Windows XP does give you some goog tips for setting up a network. And Vista, Ya well that just sucks

  • i dont got the optionsd in "Remote"

  • i had the same, go to control panel, then go to control panel home

  • whan u log on to someone eles computer can they see what u r doing.

  • Yeah but how do you do it without vista ultimate?

  • Don't try and flame someone calling them a "looser" when you cant even spell it right.

  • Hahah, you're so paranoid.

"Oh noz people know my IP address!"

  • If you have an iPhone, get the WinAdmin app to access your remote desktop from your phone. It's cooool.

  • I cant RDP xp..im using vista as my controller. any help?

  • I just connected with mine from Vista64 to an XP64 box. With it came back with the RDP error, I clicked ok and entered the IP and then pressed CONNECT... Its pretty neat looking... Looks like Citrix!

  • For those who do not have all the options, please check that you are on an Admin account. And also that your User Account Control is off. You can find these 2 in Control Panel. (Search User Account Control and hit the link which says "Turn User Account Control on/off" or somehting of the sort. Say yes to restart. And then try.

    -Icewiing.

  • i dont have options!

  • Why is there only Remote Assistance?? There is no Remote Desktop underneath.

  • LOL, it's because remote desktop is NOT included in the Home SKU's.

REMOTE DESTKOP IS ONLY INCLUDED IN THE BUSINESS/ULTIMATE SKU'S.

  • it is in the home SKU'S you just have to know how to find and fix it.

  • You mean 'hack', not 'fix'.

  • i guess i could say hack, but technically remote desktop is there, Microsoft just decided to pretty much disable/break it so vista ultimate and business look better.

  • can you use remote desktop connection to conect to another computer in world?

  • I went to the system properties and the remote tab. But there was only a Remote Assistance section and not a Remote Desktop section? where did it go??

  • how do i find my username and password to a dlink router?

  • Should either be under the actual router, or your find the user ans pass on the DLINK SITE. If you have changed the user and passs, there should be a RESET button under or on the back. Comment me if you still need help

  • the thing is i do not remember putting a pass or user

  • You probably have a home edition of Windows. You can only connect to computers to business editions of Windows, Windows XP Media Center Edition (because it is based off of XP professional), and Vista Ultimate. You can connect FROM any computer, however.

  • Masking ur IP for security is a good thing...

  • I am well versed in both Windows and Mac Os' and that was the most confusing explanation of Remote Desktop I've seen. To an average user they would be lost within the first couple minutes.

  • theres a working hack fix for remote desktop on home editions do a search on google

  • hey i got a problem and its realing p-ing me off i pute a dvd in the computer i wanna connect to and i wanna watch it threw my computer but i keep getting a sign poping up after i press play saying some shit about changing the resolution i change it still get same message is their a way to fix this if so reply to this and make a vid on how!!!!!!!

  • were do you find the password

  • it is your user account password.

  • you said about the port number do you use your own port number from your internet provider or from your router?

  • good explanation

but i'm not going to use maybe one day

    i'm not a experience user

i only use my pc for chat ,read and type documents that's all

  • I don't have the same things at the system properties (time. 00.28 :-P)there is only one check box.. Allow Remote Assistance connections to this computer. not 2 choices.. help me plz:P

  • You must have Windows Vista Home Premium or Basic then. Remote Desktop is only available in business editions of Vista, plus Ultimate of course.

    :-(

  • i have windows vista home basic but i can see the choices in the remote setting theres only one choices how is that?

  • You can remote desktop to another computer from any version version of Windows, but you can only remote desktop to a Business or Ultimate edition of Vista.

  • what about the windows xp?

  • I have Vista Home Premium and I have Remote Desktop. Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Remote Desktop Connection.

  • I can't do it! I have Windows XP Professional and I don't know my Domain... What is that?

  • Windows XP Professional should work just fine. The domain has to do with big corporate networks. Just leave it blank. Can you connect to the computer from another computer on the same local network?

  • Hey, i have vista premium and the remote desktop program but in control panel, where the remote settings are changed, there is no remote desktop options whatsoever, like the option to choose remote dektop users, i only have remote assistence... do you have any idea why? and how i could get the settings up.

    thanks.

  • Remote Desktop is only included in Business editions of Vista. (And Ultimate of course.)

In Vista Home Premium you can use Remote Desktop to connect to other computers, but not to that computer.

  • Hey thanks a lot. Now I have it working in lan but not out of lan. I successfully forwarded the ports I believe by checking tinyurl[DOT]com/2m6sdv. It said port 3389 was listening. Although I'm not quite out of lan, while i was in still under my lan, rather than use local ips, I used the public ips. Oddly, it didn't work. I tried it at a computer away from my lan too and it also didn't work. Do you know what I should try next?

    Thanks for your time

  • If it works in your LAN when you use the local IP, but not in your LAN when you use the public IP then the only thing that I can think of is maybe the router has a setting wrong.

Or I suppose you could be using the wrong public IP, but I doubt that's the case.

  • great dude. worked fine. thx alot
