why do you bother hiding your IP, your IP is 208.87.33.150 ... should i plan an udp bomb :) nah, your ok, not an idiot, you seem to be going in right direction ;)
@dan0starr Remote Desktop is a business feature. :-/ You can connect *from* any Windows PC (or Mac or Linux computer), but you can only connect *to* an Ultimate, Enterprise, or Business edition Widows PC.
If you are using a wireless router doesnt the router assign you a different private IP address whenever you log on (depending on how many other computers/devices are on your home network)? Wouldnt that make remote desktop virtually impossible to set up access to outside your home network? The listening port will have no clue which is the right machine to connect to. I may very well be connected to one of the other 5 laptops in my house being used by various people or the 5 iPhones and 2 iPods.
Alright here is what you do to get the three options, go to control panel -> system -> advance system settings -> then the remote tab, if that is what your looking for.
I have a laptop wich use windows vista. I am wanting to connect my laptop to take control of the desktop i have which is also windows vista, but we are using netgear as our router. How do i do that? and error keeps on popping up in my scren saying unable to connect.
i need some help, my cousin recently se t one up for me (vista to vista) and i could use it to go on any website on the school computers, how do i set it up? he had it passworded and stuff
2. For those of you who this is not working... remote desktop only works with vista professional/ultimate. Vista Home basic/premium will not have access to it. You can access another computer.. but you cannot access one operating vista home basic/premium (ie your own)
there are hacks for it.. but tread lightly they require you to alter windows components.
have my PC and laptop both running 7 can connet using my laptop to my desktop but cannot go back the other way both have the same settings anyone got any idea's
i have a problem when i go to remote assist. the bottom part is not there for me to click and do it. then when i type my ip in my browser thats does not come up either... ive set up remote asst befor and never had these problems but i have them now and dont know what to do
my computer, Windows Vista Home Premium, only shows the top part (see video at 0:28) and not the bottom part Remote Desktop. Would anybody tell me why and how to fix it, if it needs fixing, please thank you much
Great Video! Followed your steps but getting an error when trying to connect from another network."This computer can't connect to the remote computer because the Terminal Services Gateway server address requested and the certificate subject name do not match." Any ideas on this error?
after i click on allow remote access to your computer and system properties comes up, theres only a box for remote assistance, how do i get the box that says remote desktop???
if you dont have a password set to your account on your computer you may want to set one. if you already have a password set to your account i suggest that you change that. if it still continues then go to control panel and int eh search bar type remote and click search. in the list it provides you. click "do not allow anyone to connect to my computer remotely". good luck and i hope that helps!
Wow, I thought you just had to type in the IP adress and then entre the user name and password. Is this the only way pssible? Thanks for posting the video though I will try it :)
This is great, but next time, you need to go A LOT slower for those of us who are new to this stuff. I found that I had to pause and rewind your video quite a bit when I was trying to set up Remote Desktop while following your directions.
This ain't helpful 4 me. I have Vista Home Premium and u cannot make a Remote Desktop connection to it. U can however use it 2 connect 2 Vista Ultimate and XP Professional PC's but i wanna get the hack 2 unlock it 4 Home Premium
I think those options are only available for 'business' use. Thus Business and Ultimate will have those options. (Microsoft's more power to the user thing....)
Notes * You cannot use Remote Desktop Connection to connect to computers running Windows Vista Starter, Windows Vista Home Basic, Windows Vista Home Basic N, or Windows Vista Home Premium. You can, however, connect from those editions of Windows Vista to computers running other versions of Windows. * You cannot use Remote Desktop Connection to connect to computers running Windows XP Home Edition.
hello. few questions. can i do remote desktop out of my network say that a friend of mine needs help with there computer will i be able to do such a thing and will it work if im running xp and hes running vista? great video
Ok, lots of crap you have to do. Microsoft should of made a easyer way of setting up networks. But I think Windows XP does give you some goog tips for setting up a network. And Vista, Ya well that just sucks
I just connected with mine from Vista64 to an XP64 box. With it came back with the RDP error, I clicked ok and entered the IP and then pressed CONNECT... Its pretty neat looking... Looks like Citrix!
Ma invece di usare questo programma, che per me è zozzeria e che per farlo usare mi fa prendere le madonne, perche non usi ultravnc????oppure crossloop o teamviewer o tightvnc o vnc o logmain???? =)
For those who do not have all the options, please check that you are on an Admin account. And also that your User Account Control is off. You can find these 2 in Control Panel. (Search User Account Control and hit the link which says "Turn User Account Control on/off" or somehting of the sort. Say yes to restart. And then try.
i guess i could say hack, but technically remote desktop is there, Microsoft just decided to pretty much disable/break it so vista ultimate and business look better.
I went to the system properties and the remote tab. But there was only a Remote Assistance section and not a Remote Desktop section? where did it go??

You can remote desktop to another computer from any version version of Windows, but you can only remote desktop to a Business or Ultimate edition of Vista.
Windows XP Professional should work just fine. The domain has to do with big corporate networks. Just leave it blank. Can you connect to the computer from another computer on the same local network?
Hey, i have vista premium and the remote desktop program but in control panel, where the remote settings are changed, there is no remote desktop options whatsoever, like the option to choose remote dektop users, i only have remote assistence... do you have any idea why? and how i could get the settings up.
Hey thanks a lot. Now I have it working in lan but not out of lan. I successfully forwarded the ports I believe by checking tinyurl[DOT]com/2m6sdv. It said port 3389 was listening. Although I'm not quite out of lan, while i was in still under my lan, rather than use local ips, I used the public ips. Oddly, it didn't work. I tried it at a computer away from my lan too and it also didn't work. Do you know what I should try next?
If it works in your LAN when you use the local IP, but not in your LAN when you use the public IP then the only thing that I can think of is maybe the router has a setting wrong.
Or I suppose you could be using the wrong public IP, but I doubt that's the case.

Thanks for your time

If it works in your LAN when you use the local IP, but not in your LAN when you use the public IP then the only thing that I can think of is maybe the router has a setting wrong.
Or I suppose you could be using the wrong public IP, but I doubt that's the case.
