  • Thanks, love your videos!

  • Me personally, I used empty pill bottles for my fishing kit. I didn't have the film canisters, so I used what I had on hand. I wrapped the string around the bottle, and just put some duct tape around it, and carry my hooks and small bobber inside it. For my sewing kit, I have one of those travel size thread reels with my own thread on it, and I put varying needles in it. Another good idea for cold fingers is an easy threader.

  • If you can't find one of these tubes, you could make one out of PVC tubing from 1/2 inch up to 4 inch pending your needs, glue an end cap on one end, and a screw cap on the other. Great video Dave, and some awesome ideas. Thanks!!!

  • Hey there! I've enjoyed your television and youtube videos this year. Best wishes for 2012.

  • Iv been to Alaska

  • Hi Dave, I just watched this video and it reminded me about this mini fishing rod & reel combo that I watched on YouTube by intenseangler. He speaks about these pen fishing rods that are great for survival situations. According from the reviews, they are great light piece of equipment to have in your pack. The company that makes them is PenFishingRods, com (YouTube - FishingNYC). I know that part of survival is improvising, but this pen fishing rod is a keeper. Let me know what you think.

  • Awesome idea!! thanks !

  • Great video as always, Dave! But what's with not being able to post videos anymore? What the hell did I miss? DJBTol.

  • have you ever been in the philippines? tried the jungles here

  • why not just throw an actual solid cork float in rather then an improvised one and it seems that kit would be noisy, i would go with a smaller diameter tube to reduce the rattle.

typical pvc becomes brittle after exposure and in the cold weather i would suggest an oxegyn infused version such as used for heated water.

  • One thing not mentioned, wine corks can be used for camoflage face paint if you char the ends. Very field expedient for bobbers as well. Something to keep in mind. I'd put 3 in, no doubt.

  • Great info. Take what you need from the videos. Ignore the comments from stalker types that play online military games and have never been a trigger puller. All of the shows by Les, Bear, Dave and Cody have different survival value. Remember, they're television shows.

  • @jason2325, about the first post.. why the #### would you do a background check on him?? first of all it cost like $20. second, thats just ####ing weird! Also, he doesnt claim 20 years of military, he claims (and i quote) "... more than 20 years of COMBINED military and CIVILIAN survival experience." ...LASTLY... if your so against Dave, then DONT WATCH HIM, MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS AND TAKE YOUR BULL #### SOMEWHERE ELSE!! :)

  • @rgdud0 why you ride daves dick so hard

  • The whole canister should be stuffed full of fishhooks. That kit may last you one weekend maybe, then you starve. I suggest you take along about a half dozen Yo-Yo fishing reels. cheap light weight w/ 60lb test line. Set it then forget it..

  • you should have just built a shore trap; you wouldn't need any of this and you could do other stuff during the day

  • the ferel tight is an archery product used to install inserts into arrows sort of like hot melt glue stick only better

  • at 3:30 what is he showing, he calls it feral tight that's prob not spelt right buts its the yellow stuff he has with the frog gig

  • @wkgm11 the ferel tight is an archery product used to install inserts into arrows sort of like hot melt glue stick only better

  • the tube your using is the shipping container for RPG rocket motors and i have seen a few flares stored in those tubes. I have mostly seen it used for the motors. i have my own i collected in iraq mine had a rocket motor in it.

  • i did a military background check on dave and he clams to serve 20 years the background un cover 6 he claimed to serve as a sniper in south America background said he took an minor scout sniper/counter sniper course. i could go on for days. i hate people that lie. less stroud is the shit

  • @jason2325 stroud ha ha, go watch the episode where he is at sea in a life raft and starts complaining like a little girl cause he can not get hold of his hand holding backup team, when he finally does contact them they bring him into shore so he does not have to rough the storm... then they take him back out when the storm is all over, what a pussy. I could go on .... I don't remember Dave saying he was this or that, but I do know he is one generious knowledge sharer and that's tops in my book.

  • @jason2325 less stroud is no pussy if you can do it then why dont you start filming on your own and post up a week of survival on your channel mrs i can do it better then less stroud dave is in it all for the money him and his buddy Cody prob spoon out in the jungle at night when it camera man climbs back into his tent and how could you come on the history channel and lie about serving you country he a prick and is nothing compared to stroud

  • @jason2325 i'm a fan of stroud but you talking about 2 men spooning,WHAT KIND OF HAPPY(GAY) SH!T ARE YOU ON............

  • @godfere like two men go out in the woods together and survive i remember and episode where they had a box of condoms with them

  • @jason2325 lol yupp

  • @jason2325 OK First off Les Stroud is awesome one of my Favorite's ,but Dave knows his shit too

  • @jason2325 Ok and i Quote "20 Years of military and survival experience. "

  • @jason2325 Not to mention, you cant do a "military background" check. lol Military records are classified for 1. and for 2, and civilian can not access them at all. So unless you work for the federal government, (which you dont) or you are a colonel in the Army, and made some "phone calls" (which you didnt) you wouldnt be able to "dig stuff up" on dave with a (fake) military background check (cuz it doesnt exist) lol

  • @gramarmy You don't even know who my dad is because he defiantly can get one considering what he does and is the one who help me with it. Discarding the fact that my dad helped me with it through his carrier check out this website archives.gov/st-louis/military-personnel/public/general-public.html. Military records are public because civilians are the ones who fund the military. Maybe not deployments, missions, or kills but your MOS is. So shut the fuck up you dont know what your talking about.

  • dual survivor

  • why are they stopping you from posting anymore?

  • u can try a paintball tube is really great for this tones of room

  • Thanks for the tip Dave,

I'am watching your Discovery progam to.

    Thanks you mate.

  • You can also use the cork for face paint. burn the end a little bit with a lighter. Rub it on yyour face....

  • Geocachers use those tubes all the time. I ordered a selection of surplus waterproof army containers and they sent me one of those tubes as an extra. I never used it, but wow, your idea is perfect for it. I think I will carry all types of cordage and tape on it.

  • I recently purchased a case for holding welding rods from harbor freight $6.50. it looks about the same as your case except it is about 3" around and 14-16 inch long. bigger but you could combine a better trapping kit as well. it also has a lanyard hole in the lid so you can attach it and a belt clip that you could cut off if needed.

  • I agree Dave, gold works better in clear water. Silver tends to spook fish in clear water..

  • Got myself a box of 25 for a buck a piece at his store on Ebay. Gonna make a bunch of kits for my brothers and Dad for Xmas presents. This thing rocks for getting you dinner out in the boonies!!! Thanks for all the truly great info you continue to share...

    (Cothrans-Military store on Ebay)

  • I woulldd not use that to carry water if it had white phosphorus in it, you can get something called phossy jaw from coming into contact with that stuff, along with liver and kidney damage

  • dave im gunna miss ya

  • I have two of those flare tubes that I snatched up when I was in the Army. They are freaking useful; I wish I had a dozen of them. They hold exactly 100 9mm rounds, very handy for the range.

  • Or, instead of using this, you can use a stick and a knife to kill a alligator. Dave is such a beast.

  • Why cant dave post any more

  • @SasquacthKid descovery OWNS his words/ actions now..

  • @survivalairgunner Oh ok well to bad

  • do you know what the best type of survival knife is?

  • My 10 year old son and I made a couple of these out of PVC. We fish more with the kit than with our rod and reels. I keep one in my truck, never know when an opportunity will present it self. Great videos, and love Dual Survivor.

  • are u on the show dual survival? im asking because you have the scorpion tatoos

  • @futureusmc100 Yep, that's him.

  • @futureusmc100 YES.

  • I love your bag!

  • whats bankline Ive used braid and mono but not that

  • @wkgm11 its basically just nylon mason's twine. you can get it in any Hware store.

  • Nice Kit!

    Thanks for posting.

  • isnt white phosphorous an artillery round that burns the fuck out of every thing

  • Yes it i, but he just uses the container that housed the white phosphorus.

  • its a flare case,,WP is also used in flares, and yes it will burn real nice. The cases are waterproff and have alot of uses!.

  • WOW, I have been telling people in survival forums for about ten years to use red wool as a lure, No one ever bothered to test that fact and use it. I am glad you did.

    Great vids btw

I love the budget run tapes.

  • Hey Dave - We picked these tubes up at the Gun Show in Columbus a couple months back! Very useful!!!

  • if the tubes are hard to find you could make something close out of PVC pipe and end caps

  • Hey you should try a silver fox lure its amazing for catching fish I went fishin at bogs creek and caught 7 trout all good in size along with some sun fish and crappie its a great spinner =)

  • i bet if you needed you could use those film canisters as floaters too

  • Hi, great video as always, just wanted to mention that i use silver colored swivels when the waters have stone bottom/ground and gold in muddy bottom/ground, its whats up here in Norway anyway =)

  • Do you ever cook anything like insects or worms? I'm guessing those would still be fairly common even where there is little larger game.

  • :D Film canisters, dudes. I didnt seen them long time, Digital cameras wiped them out.

  • How come you favor gold over silver?

  • me personally i found that silver is more attractive for fish

  • for me, gold seems to work better when its murky and i use silver when its clearer water. not sure why, but thats just how it seems to work out.

  • will gold and silver work for large mouth bass?:-)

  • Sure, they like shinny stuff too. Ive personally never tried for big mouth with that lure he has (Mepps I think), but I know they work on trout. Should work for bass too. I got a couple inline spinners in my kit, but I never go anywhere without a couple different Kastmasters. They are just so dam versatile.

  • will have to try that

  • stick another arrow head in there Dave, more is better. Fill those canisters as full as you can get them.

  • @hickmanplace that's right 2 is 1 and 1 is none

  • Wow you've got everything but the kitchen sink in there lol.

  • most people have trapped rabbits, have you ever killed anything bigger than a rabbit?

  • Maxinpains, Dave is just giving his opinion, he is sharing his experiences. Have some respect for a soldier who fought your freedom.

  • i thaught you wernt aloud to post yourself anymore

  • About 3-5 more days buddy.

  • @wildernessoutfitters y will u not b able 2 post urself any more and im sure ive cn more recent vids im confuzed will u please help explain this 2 me?

  • @wildernessoutfitters what dos he mean.

  • @wildernessoutfitters nice vid dave and by the way what happened to the no nonsense bowhunter? it was 1 of my favorite vids:( oh well anyways nice vid :P.

  • nice video. very good ideas...

    pretty inspirational actually...

  • you can make one with pbc pipe. to if you cant find one.

  • Absolutley brother!

  • Just wanted to say you can pick up a similar tube for welding rods at Harbor Freight (cheap) or home improvement stores like lowes and home depot. Thanks Dave for everything you do and all the information - you are the best!

  • maxipain, would not the contents melt. Would not a tin of the same weight dent and leak. Would notr a real sof already know this. tried to check out your vids on the subject, but alas there are none. Quit watching Bear Grylls and practice these things yourself. then come back and talk smack.

  • By the way, I would consider doing a bit of research-The reason those kits are in metal containers is to provide items for emergency water purification and cooking, not to be impact resistand, or Fire retardent, many new ABS materials can take many hundreads of ft lbs of pressure to destroy and are far stronger for impact than aluminum or thin stainless.

  • Red yarn or Flannel will draw a strike from ANY frog when presented to them- always! ('least in my experiences).

  • I agree with you!

  • great kit..maybe add one large as can fit arrow head...otherwise a stonking set up..but then would you also be carrying somewhere that tiny knife/fish hook/arrow head in which case I'll shut up and bow gracefully cos that little thing was soooo neat!

  • Cool Dave. Compact, capable, and affordable. FANTASTIC!!!!

  • Awesome kit dave

its going to be awesome seeing you in all of these amazing places across the world

I dont mind bear grylls but i think your show is going to be amazing

  • I agree with Royce2u. PVC type tubing is available for pennies in a variety of sizes, allowing you to use the diameter that fits your intended contents.

  • Hey Dave i fished all across Canada and the lure that got all kinds of fish was the Panter Martin size 2 and 4 with the yellow body with red dots silver blade ,i never had to much luck with the gold but if it works it works hope you will try them out before you go,let me know what you think take care

  • I will definatley check those out thanks!

  • great mods 5*

  • Take care of the finger, it looks like it opened up during the video.

  • Awesome Dave. Might I suggest 3 small lengths of bike inner-tube to protect the fishing line from nicks? I little cut could leave you with 100+ inch long bits of string ,even in your pack . The tubes could be easily rolled back exposing 1 type of string at a time . My 2 cents

  • yeah, cover it with protection, even some saran wrap.

  • a few hanfulls of TP wouldnt hurt stuffed in there, it would cut down on noise plus many other uses.

  • Please consider hunting arrow heads for bigger game.

  • the only reason Bear Grylls never needs kit is he stays in a hotel every night , he is all show and does not 'live' it

  • @mazadan Yeah. You don't always need a kit though. I don't always use one.

  • @mazadan Bear Grylls is an Eaton rich kid lol. nothing common man about him.

  • great kit.

  • does anyone know why the clothing link on wildernessoutfittersarchery (dot) com does not work?

  • The only clothing available was a 100 unit run of Pathfinder T-shirts. These are or were located on the home page.

  • Some PVC pipe will allow a person to replicate the container. It might even be better i some respects.

  • wow very cool kit.

  • hey dave, u could even use that red yarn to mark where u have bank lines. I do the same thing when i run trot lines, because it gets difficult to remember when you have several different spots. Although, u may disagree with me on this idea because in a self reliance situation a person wouldn't want to use up all of their red yarn by cutting it into small pieces to mark their lines. Lots of luck, and I can't wait 2 see u on discovery. You have a wealth of knowledge 2 share with the world.

  • Nice men.. pretty cool kit

  • Hey Dave a 5 gallon paint strainer or 2 would easily fit in that kit and you would have some nets with you. Could also use them over your head in mosqito infested areas. Can get them dirt cheap at any Sherwin Williams or similar paint store.

  • nice! never thought of that one.

  • Well thought out thank you Dave!

  • But hopefully you wont see, eating Grubs or squeezing elephant crap in his face to drink! LOL!

  • i got one of those flare tubes last year... they work great for that

  • Dave, put some salt in that kit to cure eggs, you will need in Alaska, trust me I was born and raised there.

  • No shit Amazon??? wow that shall be interesting

  • u should have an extra container for "baits" like crickets or worms u find while traveling down trails or digging a fire pit or gathering firewood to a fish with-- become a pack rat

  • Cargo Pockets that Zip and Velcro shut work great buddy!

  • Dave nice kit. You can also use a little of that yarn on a hook to catch frogs. Wrap a piece on hook and wave around in front of frog. Get a meal and fish bait at the same time.

  • could you use an old flaslight casing as your container? If it has an oring type seal

  • when does the show start? what time? what channel? thanks

  • Sweet set up.

  • hey dave? what channel will you be on? i want to watch you but i have no clue.

  • I cannot speak about that right now, go to my face book and I am sure you can find out easy.

  • sweet kit good luck every time u have to use that

  • Nice kit Dave are you actually going to be able to have all these kits with you on the show since it's to be a survival show. It would suck if you get on location and you are told you can only take your knife.

  • what is that feritite that stuff looked like a lil block of dyed sap nice vid

  • How do you plan on using those spoons? I can imagine those being of much use without a rod and reel or boat... or at the least a swift moving river / stream.

  • * canT imagine

  • You must not have seen the vid on casting for crappie, it is not hard at all and I can catch lots of fish this way.

  • No I didn't see it, I just watched it. Good stuff.

You say its not hard and Ill take your word for it, but it looks like a forearm workout from hell to me. I guess for the same space and weight (since your not going primitive) Id rather carry a "pen rod". You can pick them up cheap if you look around.

Here is one just as something to consider.

    watch?v=uSbr7N9_AnI

  • Very often a fish will hit a spoon as it flutters to the bottom.

then you would pull a length of line to lift it and bring it a bit closer, then let it flutter to the bottom again

  • Awesome kit, Dave!

I will do my best to shamelessly plagarize it!

  • Great vid...you answered about 50 of my questions with this video. thanx dave

  • ROOSTER TAILS ARE SWEET!

  • Very Very nice dave! 5/5
