From a Christian perspective I think this song is about rejecting God. The light is the light of the indwelling Holy Spirit. For some reason, she didn't want it anymore. So she sold her soul to Satan. Probably was affiliated with a legalistic religion & is why she threw away her Salvation. Almost any religion is enough to turn someone away from God. If only people knew that religion and God have absolutely nothing in common.

I don't know which is worse, Mormon, Jehova's Witnesseses, Pentecostal, Catholic or one Baptist Church who insisted refraining from beating a child is child abuse. One Church we went to was so loud, my son threw up. The last time I was in Church people were fake speaking in Tongues. Then they told an outlandish lie to get us to give them our money.
