I just listened to some of those Urchins dudes music and they suck. That song at the end by System of a Down was very good though and is on my must buy list now.
You looked very intense in the ending song. You should see your upper body frame as you take in some air and how you eyebrows and forehead move as you go with the song. That makes me what to meet you in person. You are smart and passionate.
Sincerity isn't all that much like saccharine till theresident opens her mouth. She couldn't be more persuasive if she even seemd to vaguely mean a single word. Actors/directors/filmographers/writers note her throwaway persona, and avoid making the same mistake.
Starve to feast...Brilliant! Dreams remain just out of reach for most. I dreamt of being a great musician, and now work as a letter carrier. Tonight I'll be at practice with my band, FBI. Still starving and feasting, life goes on !
The dream segment almost made me cry. I am 18 and a month away from graduating. I want to be an interior designer but I don't even know what I am going to do for the next year. Gahhh
That's ok ouchmytoeben! I think we all just figure it out along the way. The key is once you find something you are good at and like to do, whatever it is, go after it like crazy!
what Tomato11 said about bands in the 70's coming out with a few records before getting a hit made me think of 2Pac. He really made a name for himself once his 3rd album "Me Against The World" came out.
This has happened to lots of bands in the 80's and 90's too. Bands like Green Day, RHCP, RATM and others had one or two records out before they came out with a hit. Where would Green Day be without Dookie, or RHCP without Under The Bridge...?
music today is so manufactured, packaged, and mass produced. the record labels squeeze every dime out of the new artists before dropping them in 5 years. it's sickening.
Now if you started to read this don't stop because it's scary! ok send this to 5 other videos in 143 min. when you're done press F6 and your crushes names will appear on the screen in big letters. this is weird because it works. If you break this you won't have a date for 5 years
"I wish you where here" in Britain,England,London or more precisely East Dulwich my home hehehe...You are awesome!!!The videos are amazing, good luck!
Rap advocates ignorance! Yukky uneducated hooligans! I only listen to rap when I am drunk and dancing with females of rap infested minds. But then again other genres also invoke practicality. Doesn't matter though, because when I am sober I am a fine thinker and admirer of these shows, by commendable women, as is this fine show host of THE RESIDENT, who reads VONNEGUT, three thumbs up!!
Probably the single most powerful music video I've seen in quite some time. Certainly 100 times better than any of that drivel you see on MTV. That is, when they actually show a music video.
Now enough with all this seriousness, let's get back to the funny. I kid, I kid. Actually you're a great person, with a great show and great interview skills. Did I mention it's great?
Wow, suddenly I have a 'tummy' ache (too much sugary sweetness). OK, gotta' go be mean to someone immediately.
HI FROM CANADA TORONTO I became your fun you doing good girl good
how old r u? are u planing step in side the media like as fox cbc cnn etc etc?u aiming the high? I guess all the best wishes for you from upper country
Good lord I love this girl. Look at those mammary glands! Those legs! Lori's so cute when she dances and acts around. Possibly the perfect woman. If she is married I am jealous of her husband. Dance for me Lori!
This is actually the third I shared in its entirety - check out Episode 1 and 2 posted earlier. These are the ones on the closest drive to my desk, that's why I picked them. :)
The music video with you lip syncing & all those images on the screen behind you... WOW !!! You did a a great job. Your face, the feeling and the expressions, You can really feel it when you watch the video. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make that a clip by it's self. What a fantastic job!!! But then again, you always do great work. I look forward to all your clips. Keep up the great work your doing.
I'm glad we have people like you providing inteligent alternative views on things like the (evil) music industry. Plus you like System which makes you even sexier than you were when I just thought you were smart and witty and good lookin'. Sign me up for the list of people who want to marry Lori when they grow up. Maybe I wont make you go "Blegh".
ms. resident, please put the "lost in hollywood" lip synch as a separate video. I know some youtubers might be turned off by a 19 minute vid. Your version deserves to be seen by more people!
This is by far your best piece to date. Every segment was great. I especially liked the piece at the end the music video with you lip syncing and having all those images on the screen behind you, like Dana Plato. Job well done.
There are probably about 30 - 40 full episodes at this point. It's all on miniDV and old drives tho, since I was mainly making it for TV and not the internet. The process of converting stuff is slow but I'm working on it for sure. :)
"There are angels on my shoulder, and I would kill them if I could. Because I've had the greatest dream that I've ever had...and they're laughing...oh they're laughing at me."
Oh my god. That E special/music segment at the end was AWESOME. That truly is a great segment, in keeping with the show, but totally a different contribution. SO well done. "art"? Do you watch as much TV as I do?
Ha. Probably. I watch so much TV, I'm fascinated with it. The whole E! special in the background was a total accident, I just turned it on to E! knowing they'd be showing SOMETHING relevant. Thanks for the good words man.
That was awesome, Lori. The people in your on the street interviews feel raw and casual (unlike 'real' news on the street videos) and they often say poignant or interesting things. I like how, in the 'formal interview' part, you highlight important things that the interviewee says and you don't get all in their face like most...
interviewers, you'll just kinda chill out and hear what they have to say. I also like the vloggish parts, one thing I don't like about a lot of the 'original content' producers on YouTube is that once they start making interesting content they'll stop telling us their opinion and how they feel because they think it detract from it. But in this
medium, I think knowing more about who the person on the screen is is what makes it different. It's different from watching celebrities, because I don't know (or really care) who they are, but it's cool to know what you're all about in addition to enjoying the original content you produce. Great show, keep it up!
Why do you say don't give up? Some people had dreams that were unrealistic for them, so they couldn't follow them. When I was little I wanted to be an actress until I found out I'm way too shy lol. Then I wanted to be a concept artist for ILM [weird kid].
Worst job: Soldier in Iraq. Best job: Hue Hefner has it. The guy who answered your 'what did you want to be when you grew up?' question with "Your husband"... he's awsome. Great taste in music. System of a down is the shit!
Hey Lori. Your show is wonderful. You are everything you need to be for the camera. Just get that baby aired here in Las Vegas so I can stumble across it while flippin' the channels. :)
There will always be unsigned artists and made up pop stars. You should see the ton of great musicians playing in bars all around Nashville that will most likely never get a record contract.
This episode was awesome. Though I think the nature of music marketing is changing with the advent of MySpace and YouTube. A lot of excellant artist are now able to distribute their own music through these venues bypassing the lables and radio stations and going directly to their fan base and burning off their own CDs.
While it's easier to get exposure, it's ironically become harder to make a decent living.
Live performance is dying because clubs and bars don't support it anymore, preferring "karaoke nights". Downloads have dropped the price of music in an oversaturated market that making a living is harder (I don't mean becoming rich and famous either, just making enough to pay the rent to battle on to another day).
True enough, but I think that may change. As fans interact on a personal basis through MySpace or YouTube, I think they'll want to support the artist and see them perform live to strengthen that connection and even go so far as to promote their favorite band in their town to get the chance.
In light of the recently observed downward trend in live social interactions in favor of virtual friends, this connection becomes even more important. As David Brin hypothesised in "The Transparent Society" we may begin to see artist subsidised for their efforts by a series of micropayments, perhaps 1 or 2 cents a view, paid either by the fans or sponsorship. That may not sound like a lot but a talented artist could do quite well as the number of hits add up.
Lori, you have such a manly voice. ;-) You are now my favorite music video star, my dear. And trust me, beating out Edward Furlong is an accomplishment. Nicely played, madam.

Unfortunately, there are good and bad points.
Every silver lining also has its cloud. :(

True enough, but I think that may change. As fans interact on a personal basis through MySpace or YouTube, I think they'll want to support the artist and see them perform live to strengthen that connection and even go so far as to promote their favorite band in their town to get the chance.
DonovanOC 5 years ago
In light of the recently observed downward trend in live social interactions in favor of virtual friends, this connection becomes even more important. As David Brin hypothesised in "The Transparent Society" we may begin to see artist subsidised for their efforts by a series of micropayments, perhaps 1 or 2 cents a view, paid either by the fans or sponsorship. That may not sound like a lot but a talented artist could do quite well as the number of hits add up.
