Your Milwaukee videos are really cool, but I wish you would have showed the lakefront, the art museum (which is extraordinary architecture) and more of the attractions like the Milwaukee Public Museum and the Grand Avenue Mall.

Very cool sample of Don't Fear the Reaper, don't think I've heard this before, and whoops, now I saw your notes, lol. There is never enough cowbell, imho, but what music needs more of is xylophones!!! Super vid Jim ;.)
One thing I noticed: The arrow placement or design on all the signs is weird haha. Can't wait to see the #1 skyline view from a freeway... Pittsburgh's Ft Pitt tunnel!
Wisconsin has some awesome road construction, wish I could say the same for Illinois. Illinois has 13 million people, ranked 3rd in miles of interstates (2100mi) and yet has NO four level stack in the entire state. Chicago may be a better city than Milwaukee, but Wisconsin is definitely a far better state than Illinois.
I really enjoyed this video and I've driven I-794 and I-94 (and other Milwaukee roads) many times. My wife is from Germantown (just NW of Milwaukee) so I've made many trips up there with her, especially when I was in college at Northwestern and she was going to school at Carroll College in Waukesha. We get back there to visit her family quite often.
I will say one thing... Milwaukee's skyline is kind of boring considering there are 600,000+ residents here. Nice video Jim!
I'm about 98% certain I'll pass through the Marquette Interchange on my way to Middleton (west of Madison) and National Mustard Day tomorrow morning. The Cream City is definitely a favorite of mine, only this trip, I'll be merely passing through.
Fun video, man. I'm curious. Wasn't there talks of tearing down I-794? Or am I thinking of a completely different route in the city? After taking a real close look of the areas that I-794 separates in half, I'd say just leave the freeway in place.
Great views of that Milwaukee skyline along I-794, too.
I'm really looking forward to seeing your "360 degree" tour of the Marquette Interchange. Probably one of my top 2 or 3 most anticipated videos on YouTube for 2011!
@FreewayBrent Are you thinking about the Park Freeway? This freeway was demolished in 2003. Do a google search on it. wisconsinhighways . org has a good article on it.
@colinstu: I just did some research, and didn't know the Park Freeway ever existed. From browsing Google Streetview, it looks like the land immediately adjacent to the newly landscaped boulevard is just ripe for development.
@FreewayBrent You can find pictures of maps showing the planned Park Freeway, and then pictures of it completed (the part east of I43 anyways), and now on google Maps you can see it all knocked down. The complex interchange with all the local streets there has been replaced with a much simpler boulevard and a couple blocks of land that are ready for development. The closed down Pabst Brewery is right over there too and is also being renovated.
@FreewayBrent This interchange wasn't needed because the rest of the freeway (west of I43) was never really built. (Would've connected to US-41 which also terminates at North Ave)
It's a sad story, but in the end increased traffic on I94 and lead to the need to update these interchanges finally, which is better than some run-down freeways that would've ran through the ghetto.
@xxxxLetsRidexxxxx I know that... I've lived there twice. First on North and 50th, second time on State and 27th.
Northside Milwaukee is African American ghetto while Southside Milwaukee is Latino (and some parts, Asian is growing).
Riverwest area and all the area around W Fond du Lac Ave that runs diagonal through Milwaukee are the most rough IMO, but all of the north side isn't the best. There are some neighborhoods that have been fixed up quite nice though.
@xxxxLetsRidexxxxx This wasn't exactly the case when these freeways were being decided on in the 60's however... but with how developed the area is now, it would be impossible to build such a thing without it being SUPER expensive.
Good to see Milwaukee done by freewayjim. Looks like the hoan is getting some work done. I remember the collapse quite well it wasn't nearly as bad as the 35W bridge that collapsed in Minneapolis. Do you have any plans to go there sometime?
Coming from Pittsburgh, which has in my humble opinion the best way to enter an American City (Parkway West Inbound (376 E) through the Fort Pitt Tunnel) I must agree that driving on 794 W does rival it for skyline awesomeness! Great job as always!
Oh yeah I love milwaukee ! ... that remind me alot of things when I've been there in summer 2010 ... sincerely thanks for the ride ! ;) ... I loved that night view on downtown too.
@RianAlive Thank you! I can only point out so many things in a video but fear not! I have two more videos that go by U.S. Cellular field and I will mention the Sox :)
@Freewayjim Thanks, man, I appreciate it. I was gonna point that out in the Dan Ryan vid when I first saw it, but I wasn't sure if you left it out on purpose (plus I didn't want to sound like a whiny Chicagoan with a vanity issue).
@BigMattFromTexas Think of Milwaukee as the smaller and more ethnically-homogeneous little brother to Chicago. I love both cities, and highly reccomend either.
