  • apparently looking at it will kill you, the person who took the pictures used a mirror, how the hell does looking at it kill you!

  • @tulud No, looking at it will not kill you. Being close to it without a shield kills you (gives you large enough dose you certainly die after few days), and if you want to look at it properly, you have to approach it.

Don't look at things so literally.

  • @tulud

the particles that it gives off are so high powered that exposing yourself to them directly could kill you.

try shining a flashlight through paper. The flashlight is the elephant's foot, the paper is a person.

obviously, recordings or images won't kill you.

  • ło kurwa

  • The elephant foot wasn't radioactive leakage, it was just Chuck Norris who took a shit and left it there...

  • А как еще пробу взять с вещества плотней бетона.. И куда нельзя зайти человеку с перфоратором. В неё стреляли это правда.

  • My girlfriend says i have an elephant cock! fuck yeah!

  • @Goethewrote That's pretty "rad"

  • this would make an excellent mix at my local school system to help keep asbestos from becoming more airborne..

  • I wish I could break a piece of it off and keep it as a collector's item.

  • @Bamchucknorris That's a damn fine comment!!

  • @davidgrahamscott I will not carry your gear for this shoot.

  • @drazil91 Thumbs up to that!

  • I eat radiation for breakfast!

  • @ixlovexmayxmaple Good comment too!!

  • Medusa is an artifact in the elephant foot

  • 10000R/hr, lethal dose of 500R would be reached in 3.0 minutes.

  • quick its the wish granter!

  • i saw that on google images. spooky shit

  • this is the 1 artifact i dont have =(

  • Not "corium" it's called inhurainiom,

and as you said, it is caused by a melt down in the reactor, also caused when ther is to much of a heat billdup.

  • That "elephant's foot" is what happens during a core meltdown of a nuclear reactor. What happened was that all of the liquified graphite and uranium that didn't burn up (called "corium") melted through the bottom of the containment vessel and squirted out through a water drainage pipe into the basement like a big Hershey's kiss from hell. What a goddamn disaster. 10,000 roentegens/hr is not an exaggeration. That shit's reactor grade uranium and so hot it'll literally kill you in about 1 minute.

  • Graphite doesn't melt. It sublimes at some extraordinarily high temperature. The elephants foot is mostly fuel, probably a little bit of concrete.

  • fuck stalkers shootin every thing

  • *Takes deep breath* Smell that radiation!

  • @Killerclownmeat Nope! Smell nothing!

  • @Killerclownmeat even a more defiantly cruel joke. Be blindfolded and led into that room as a weird reality game-show called...... Do you feel safe here??

  • yummy!!!

  • looks tasty

  • WHAT????

  • In the next scene they try to get a sample, and decide a gun is needed. A police officer is brought in and despite the personal danger when told the importance of obtaining a sample does so by shooting the 'elephant's foot' with an AK47.

  • is there a video?

  • Yes, there is... look for Valery Legasov. Part 4. You will see this fragment, and they explain they were given an AK47 with a shooter and they shot the whole cartridge.

  • The WHOLE cartridge?!

  • Yikes wouldn't that create a radioactive dust?

  • Nuclear fuel is a very dense ceramic(as dense as lead!), I wouldn't expect there to be much dust.

They're wearing disposable clothing. If they get radioactive dust on their clothes or in their air filter it will only contribute a little bit to an already fairly large external gamma dose(if people can accept a 1 in 8 chance of dying on mount everest, self-selected scientists can accept a few percentage increase in cancer risk from figuring out where the molten fuel went).

  • @soylentgreenb it wasn't the nuclear fuel that was the source of the dust - it was more that any concrete that was blown apart by the explosion was radioactive

  • @aps454

i am looking for that video, where they shoot the elephant's foot.

can't find it anywhere on youtube or the internet gerenally :(

does anybody have to link to that exact video ?

  • @TheIcroner You don't seriously believe him do you?:P

  • @TheIcroner lol that was a joke nobody shoot the elephant's foot with an AK47 they cannot take a sample of it since it's the most dangerous substance on earth did you hear it 10000 roetgens per hour you touch that shit and you will suffer a painful dead in a few minutes your body would fall apart in pieces!

  • @catalinaguerrero

    @catalinaguerrero

nope it is not a joke. They indeed shot the elephant's foot.

    I found the video.

at about 3:10, the shooting itself is at about 3:35

    dctp.tv/#/tschernobyl/elefantenfuss-von-tschernobyl/

    It's in german though.

If you copy and paste the link, you can watch the Video.

  • @catalinaguerrero Do not you know do not say ... Samples of this substance in a place where there is no access to people. Samples indeed extracted by this method ... firing of small arms ... The substance has a great strength as a rock.

  • @catalinaguerrero Wrong, you won't die in a few minutes and you wouldn't fall apart in pieces. Instead of scaring the shit out of others by spreading disinformation, try to lear something on the matter.
