  • Cummins is by far the better engine than the Navistar Powerstroke however, the actual dodge truck itself is built from cheaper quality materials and parts and has lower quality standards than the ford truck. Thats why fords are more expensive than dodges but theyre the most popular trucks in this country for a reason; BECAUSE THEY ARE SUPERIOR TO DODGE!

  • Tire combination and weight make a huge difference in a pull off, not what name is on the vehicle. If you wanna know which 1 pulls harder put identicle trailers behind them get side by side on a road with decent grade and see who gets to the top first, P.S if both are un modified it will be the chevy, thats where the few extra HP and TQ come in. Both trucks are plenty strong and I would take either one of them. Oh and camera man, if you record again be quiet or drive the truck yourself!!!!!!!!!

  • My dad has a 97 powerstroke with 336,000 miles on it and runs just fine, it has had 5 new injectors and thats all. The 6.0 powerstroke is way more stout but had horrible overheating issues. Never seen not one single d-max overheat dispite all the rumors. I did haul a 7 yard dump trailer fully loaded wth red clay down a huge creek bed trying to build a road up with a 2500 d-max and had it snap a cv axle, but the engine never slowed one bit. Both trucks are very strong.

  • I should possibly revise my statement. I am not sure that it was actually an overheating problem. I Believe it may have been more of a, boost pushing by the headgasket issue. I am not completely certain, but almost positive the end result is lots of white smoke and water consumption, might not actually be over heating. Anybody smart on the subject able to give me a straight answer???

  • They did stretch headbolts from overboost situations causing headgasket failures. Most of the time this was not fixed the first time since they would just replace the gaskets and bolts when really the turbo was the problem. The turbos are VGT and they get coked up and seize often causing the overboost. Also the heads are usually warped after the head gaskets are popped and if they are not replaced the problem will not go away even if you get the arp head studs which are much better then the

  • stock head bolts. Also EGR cooler failures caused the same symptoms as failed head gaskets.

  • I talked to my friend at the ford dealership and he confirmed all of the above. Another friend owns a 6.0 truck and I called him and he said he didnt know what the dealer did to fix it, but it fail 4 seperate times, now that may not be a powerstroke problem, and more of an un-educated mechanic at the local dealership problem, but it still looks bad for the ford. Regardless there are very strong. All I said is that I heard of all those problems and have never seen any water problems on a D-max.

  • A lot of the problem has to do with the fact that Navistar did not use enough head bolts on these motors, also uneducated mechanics who just threw parts at the trucks rather then actually finding and fixing the root cause of the problem. Which is why so many trucks would have the same problems over and over again especially early on. While there are still bad diesel dealers out there, more and more are becoming educated on how to properly diagnose and fix the problems with the 6.0s

  • hey, looks like you can watch a ford commercial and remember some of it. My 95 chevy 2500 has over 150k more miles than my dads 03 f150, never had to replace a thing but the tranny after 150k on the chevy. His f150 had to have the motor and tranny rebuilt after 60k on the truck, and that was changin the oil every 3k miles too. I change the oil in my chevy around 6-10k miles and never had a problem, 285k miles and runnin like a champ. Ford sucks plain and simple-cheap as hell.

  • hmmm... funny, my dad had an '03 f-150 and used it as a work truck. meaning, it had a load on it from day 1. after around 80K miles we had to sell it due to insurance, but we sold it to his cousin. he drives it all the time and tows a toy hauler, idk the size but its fairly big, all the time. i think it has like 100k miles on it now and is BONE stock, nothing but a fanbelt, and that was just a phobia of his cousin. everything down to the battery is stock, still. oil changed every 10-11k miles.
