This IS the aria I grew up with. The very first LP I had bought. Anna's Gilda was with me, rain or shine. When I first fell in love, I could already feel myself in the skin of Gilda thanks to this heavenly recording. Verdi has written this for her to perfect. It's almost degrading to the art that anybody else sings it. Now, I have grown up as an adult, and can chose any opera I want to go, as often as I wish, but, none has so far sung Gilda as perfect as Anna.
Ms. Moffo sort of owns this role, doesn't she. Divine. Everyone please try to get the staged movie (in Rome ruins) of her doing Lucia--its dubbed, of course, but is worth it with Ms. Moffo's acting intensity and terror in her eyes. She is without a doubt the most beautiful soprano ever--that sure doesn't hurt--don't forget--opera is part visual too!!
Anna Moffo, you sing this as from another world! I love this, and I'll always think of your OUT OF THIS WORLD perfection in every single way! Anna, I miss you! But I thank you for leaving to the world...your simply divine singing and your persona...There are no more words to try to describe both YOU and your voice. I thank you...I believe that one fine day, we will see you singing with the angels. Again, I thank whomever leaves this on for us poor mortals to hear. Thank you!
This is stunning, superb, amazing!!! She's got such a warm tone! And to top it off, a fluffy light upper register!!! perfection!!! @ 5:14, for example, just when you think its going to get loud and unruly, Anna steps in with her amazing control and keeps it smooth. BRAVA!!!!
Oh WOW! This was sung with such perfection in every catagory I had to take a big breath myself! She could do it all...and during this period in her life, she could do it with such EASE...you felt she/it/you were MELTING! Superb, dear Anna. You had "IT" the infamous "IT" that no human can describe. This was so wonderful, I'm playing it again! Thanks so much for sharing it with us!

I hate to say it, but I like this version better than even Sutherland's. anna moffo's voice is silkier and has a more sexy, voluptuous lower register.
Imprecionante la voz de esta mujer ,para mi uno de los 5 mejores timbres de la historia en lo ke a sopranos se refiere, ademas hermosa tecnica y vellicima ella......
My X lover had about 1000 opera CD's, and of all of them, this is one of perhaps a handful that stood above the rest. Anna Moffo had perhaps the roundest, purest, and most flexible of all lyric soprano's I've heard. She was certainly also a match of Callas in both beauty and acting ability. It is too bad that she seemed to fall in too early vocal demise perhaps due to overtaxing her voice, but at least we have many recordings and some videos that preserve her genius.
Amazing trilling although I suspect she was taking some liberties with the score in order to show off. She was certainly in excellent vocal form when she recorded this. It's unusual to hear a soprano with such lyrical flexibility and dramatic power. In the end, she sacrificed one for the other but at the time, she really did have it all.
My forever Gilda... :)

@penelope0427 "E6" is the E in the 6th octave of the piano.

An E6 is the E above high C, or C6. It's pretty amazing, is what it is.
