  • The audio quality is pretty damn good on this one

  • Thanks for sharing !

  • nobody knows...

  • Hadn't heard this before! Excellent! House Mix!

  • best slide player out there doesn't even break out his slide

  • Joe channeling his inner Jeff Beck!

  • joe murders his solo

  • ive trowled the internet for a long time and im yet to ever see a clip of a guitarist that affects me more than derek trucks, u have to remember hes plkaying with guys twice his age, truely astounding!

  • COLLABORATION ALBUM

  • Joe is incredible, no doubt, but I've gotta say that Derek took me on a crazy ride with that fairly simple solo, very well done.

  • Thats what Derek does. Put anyone up against him, Joe Bonamassa, Jimmy Herring, anyone and he kills 'em, he didn't even go into his dramatic stuff in this and was still way better. Joe did the same ole' blues licks, while Derek does his crazy Derek Trucks jazz break your heart stuff. No one better right now, maybe ever. thats the truth

  • Lol, the ending of the vid is as if you passed out.

  • The groove is unreal..

  • Derek's playing have some weird craziness to it.... but it's a kind of controlled madness... it's like the notes are coming out of his guitar as a monster which he pupeteers

  • this. is. sick.

  • dereks band brings out the best in joe here! Bonamasa can play i am just not a fan of the stuff he creates himself balad of john henrey and stuff doesn't hold much weight but the guy is a serious player!

  • derek is the best ! thats it and thats all...

  • Both great musicans- the difference to me is Derek makes love to the guitar and Joe phucks it

  • @tazmankb26 -- This. Joe's the man.

  • Seriously people comparing these two based on their playing here??? THEYRE SO DIFFERENT IN THIS VIDEO! Joe is aiming for all out nasty full blast funk, and Derek is just being himself, for lack of better words (his style is undescribable to me.)

  • Joe is the more complete guitar player.

    End of argument.

    I win.

    :D

  • Joe sounds like hours of practice and a bit of feel, Derek sounds like he's literaly is feeling his way into sound, not that clear in this vid though. Anyway HOW THE FU... does he play this 6:39 ?!?!?!?!

  • I remeber standing out in the sun and watching Jonny Lang come out with Buddy Guy and surprise guest Ron Wood..... It was one of the best sets I'd ever seen..... I remeber thinking when they finished that I'd seen the set of the day, and that it couldn't really be topped (and that's after I'd watched Clapton guest with Sonny Landreth, and Joe Bonamassa with Robert Randolph that same afternoon)....... And then Derek & Susan came out and proved me wrong..... There's a seduction in their sound

  • @DWTish lol dont hurt yourself bud

  • The whole Crossroads Festival was filled with the best players on the planet...... But Derek played after Sonny at both shows, and played after both Sonny and Joe (not to mention Buddy Guy, Ron Wood, Robert Randolph, Jonny Lang, Billy Gibbons, Bert Jansch, Robert Cray and Jimmie Vaughan)....... Derek earned that high spot in those two shows, and Clapton knew damn well what he was doing when he put them there

  • And yes, Sonny Landreth is brilliant, and a true innovator...... But better than Derek? Really? Sonny plays one style exclusively. What Derek does can't even be catagorized..... I too was at the last two Crossroads Festivals, where both Derek and Sonny played..... I think Derek had a MUCH, MUCH stronger set at both shows, and theres the DVDs to prove it..... Why do you think Clapton put Derek right before Beck, then Clapton, then B.B.? Because no one else could have....

  • Derek blends with EVERYTHING....... Joe's a shredder, and you can only go so far with shred..... Can you imagine Joe playing straight jazz? or African? or Indian? or Bluegrass? I can't, and wouldn't really want to...... And this is all coming from a big Joe Bonamassa fan! Joe's a 10 out of 10, an absolute virtuoso...... But Derek is a gift from god......

  • Name ANY other player on the planet with a resume as diverse, and filled with MASTERS from such genres, EC & Buddy (Blues), Herbie & McCoy (Jazz), Vieux Farka Toure & Vusi (African), Bela & J. Douglas (Bluegrass), Jimmy Herring (Fusion)...... There aren't any (bar maybe Ry Cooder)....... I agree completely that you can't compare apples and oranges, and that even trying to name a "Greatest" is ridiculous, but I GUARANTEE, that if asked to choose between the two Jimi Hendrix would choose Derek

  • @GibbySG..... Derek is the berst guitar player ever to pick up the instrument..... Joe's a badass, don't get me wrong, but Derek has more soul in his pony tail than Joe does in his whole body...... That's why Joe was opening for Derek.... That's why Derek's guested on albums by; Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, The Allman Brothers, Herbie Hancock, McCoy Tyner, Jerry Douglas, Bela Fleck, Jimmy Herring, Vusi Mahlasela and Dr. John, just to name a few......

  • @DWTish How your putting Derek above Joe is completely unfair. Part of the reason Joe is opening for Derek & his guests on albums - He got a head start w/ Butch Trucks Joe has as much soul. To continue to say Joe is not as diverse & can't be is ignorant. When you've replicated your heroes by 10, you've got enough talent to play any genre. I am not taking anything away from Derek. This is true. I've seen both many times. Joe gets a crowd going as good as anyone I have ever seen play the guitar.

  • Derek the musician and Derek the man, we're mere mortals in comparison

  • @ccppss– Although I hate to contribute to the "who is better" game, which I do believe is contrary to the nature of music, I absolutely agree that Derek's playing always carries such a strong narrative. To me, he is a much more mature player.

  • So we're back to this 'who's better' hoo-hah. Look, they're both terrific. And neither one is Sonny Landreth. The best electric guitar player in the world is probably somebody few of us have ever heard of.

It's just the way these things work.

  • seriously Derek could never play everything Joe does. Blues guitar fans know whats up. Why isn't Derek the new king of the blues???? hmmmmm........ accolades from your peers and predecessors? Let the resume speak for itself....

  • Coming from a guitar player's perspective... honestly, Joe is a much better player overall than Derek. And a better slide player in my opinion... If you watch his Guitar Center interview on here, he lays down some nasty licks.

Don't get me wrong, both are excellent players, but Joe is much better and more rounded than Derek. Derek is a great slide player, but past that, not much else.

    But that's just me.

  • @TheGibbySG

right on bro!!!! I don't even play, and I know what's up.

  • @TheGibbySG That's just you indeed.

  • @TheGibbySG- playing the guitar as well, I to completely disagree with you, and this video is a perfect example of why derek trucks is more proficient than joe - at the very least, in this jam. Joe plays great licks one after the other, and has blazing phrazing, but derek tells a story with his playing, a solid beginning, middle and end with completely diverse phrasing that draws you in, builds and climaxes. its the kind of CD tonal quality improvising that shows patience and experience few have

  • Distinct tone & playing from both cats...Inspiring! Thanks for posting!

  • 4:03 "BOOO YOU SUCK !!!! " omg I want to slap that guy in the face !

  • @HolyGK

slap is a huge huge understatement for me

  • @HolyGK hahaa, then they shut the f**k up when they heard his solo-ing if you noticed. hahaha. Derek didnt even have to say anything, his guitar did the talking. The guitar said: STFU and Listen.

  • Thank you Joe Bonamassa and Derek Trucks for keeping the blues alive for the next generations !

  • @HolyGK hell that is an understatement derek is breaking new ground......................innovaters get more attention then mimics ;)! Love Derek joe is class to ashame that they dont get more attention but sure glad they sustain enough so that i found them :)

  • my dream g3

    joe bonamassa ,derek trucks,philp sayce

  • wow those guys sure are good ill tell yea but not as good as my big brother, hes the best!! :P

  • weird seeing joe without a suit haha

  • whyd that guy say boo you suck

  • @HendrixClaptonSRV Probably just some drunk assmonkey

  • joe sounds like hes trying to play like derek lol.

  • Ha! I thought Joe was wearing pink socks till I realized its just the lighting.

  • @fleafarteasy He was wareing flip-flops in this jam. Joe's set was before Derek's so had changed before the jam.

  • I didn't know this cover of "Who knows", originally one of the best Jimi Hendrix live performances ! covered by my favorite guitar playerk this is just great

  • Never understand those who want to compare endlessly, it's so not interesting.....no he's better, no he is, no that guy is.....that has nothing to do with playing and making music.........Two amazing players here, great improv and ode to Mr.Jimi......dunno what you want more....personally I am a real big fan of both players here, but Mr. Trucks is my all time Hero........he just is a great musician & bandleader, his diversity is more than just 'the worlds best slide player'

  • Derek is an amazing slide player but the most amazing innovator and technically, intonation perfect slide master is Sonny Landreth. Never heard anyone on the planet as good as Sonny.

  • @SIXSTRING63 imo, derek's playing is so much hotter and emotional. i saw sonny at crossroads festival and was semi-impressed but derek stands on a whole different level

  • Joe is no slouch on the slide either.Great jam.

  • Derek Trucks is the "slide king" . However both of these young men (child prodigies at that) are impeccable at playing blues guitar.

  • Joe just gave Derek a guitar lesson and didn't even charge him for it.

  • @eteezie i bet you were that philistine in the audience that shouts you suck at the star of derek's solo

  • This is a fact!!!!Joe plays from his brain. Derek plays from his soul...both great players, just different.

  • i always wondered what they were saying when they stop for a few seconds say somethin and have this mischeavous grin on there face.

  • Joe is so much better when just feels the music improvises

Derek's alwayys a beast, so versatile

  • I am a great fan of both of these guys, met them both and they are both great guys. You cant compare them because they are apples and oranges or better yet white lightning and aged bourbon. They are the best of their generation and it is a rare treat to see them together.

  • Joe cant back up what Derek brings to the table...and a thats a fact

  • @UFCfanboy7898 Go see Joe and you will change your opinion.

  • @UFCfanboy7898 What video are you watching?? Joe can and did play Derek under the table in any style or feel. That was like bringing a pocket knife to a gunfight. Lol

  • awesom. I have been listening to both these guys since their first albums. To see them together is great. I saw derek open for satriani when he was a wee lad. I had the bloodline cd when it first came out. If you think JB is just another blues player check the Bloodline cd. Derek is a different style player. To compare the 2 is idiotic. I hate hearing people say it just sounds like the blues. Most rock bands, country bands or whoever sound the same only with their own take on it. Open your mind.

  • I generally dont like Joe, but I think he kills in this video. He sounds like Derek when Derek was younger and really used to try and cut heads. Now derek is older and I guess a more seasoned player and is more selective with his soloing - like he doesnt have to prove himself any longer because he's made it. Im a huge DTB fan - and its obvious his group compliments his playing. Awesome how they take it into hendrix's who knows

  • JB doesn't have to prove himself either.....

  • Both are amazing players but like someone said below, there are a million guys that can play like JB. DT is totally unique. NO one plays like him. Nevertheless, I'll shut up and enjoy the music.

  • @djeshoes Lolololol. Joe could pull out a slide and play all of Derek's shit while he was taking a dump. Probably better than Derek with any twist he wanted to throw on it. I like Derek's music and songs better than Joe's, but Joe is light years ahead on the technical ability and virtuosity. He is nothing short of a prodigy. No comparison at all.

  • @eteezie what's better, Guiness or Heineken? There's no right or wrong answer. Personally I like Heineken and DT. But when i comes to playing slide, if you think JB is better you're a moron.

  • @eteezie You sir are insane!!! Joe can play the slide well, Derek however Is an Inovator on the slide! nobody does anything even close to what he can with a slide!

  • shut up and enjoy the music and stop comparing apples to oranges you idiots.

  • yes!

  • yeah dude, if derek would have whipped out his slide, he woulda made jb look like a clown... truth.

  • JBs a killer slide player too.

  • JB clown? What a strong opinion! LOL

Go play C major scale instead of postin bulls**t!

  • derek didnt get his slide out for this one because he didnt want to embarrass this clown

  • The guys in the background...Yeah, Derek was the one that got their heads movin'.

  • And who the freak is the drummer? Buddy Miles reincarnate. I should know. Shame on me!!!! That's the drummer I'd want on stage with me. I've been.....I know...

  • yonrico scott

  • I can't remember ever hearing a more blistering, creative, well built blues solo than John B's on this live performance!!! Just completely torturous!!!! John Bonamassa has more soul in him than a Florsheim shoe factory!!

  • Who's John Bonamassa?

  • A guy who played S.R.V. songs note for note at the age of 8. Another child prodigy like trucks, check a film about a band called bloodline, bonamassa is 18 there, insane.

  • Yeah but it's not "John" Bonamassa! I know perfectly well who "Joe" Bonamassa is!

  • This is an epic jam. Wow.

I notice that Derek turns around and faces Yonrico. ???

  • I was at this show. Joe was hot. DT was scorching. After the show, DT showed up at a local venue and jammed with an earlier band at HAB. HAB is always wonderful and post show kills, too.

  • AMAZING THose Two GREAT Players Jamming REAL HOT Jam!! Thanks for sharing!

  • amazing...

  • Sorry about the poor spelling ... must need a new keyboard or too much Vino !!

  • the confusion about derek & his sound is 2 fold ...

1 . he is Derek 2. Look at what he brought up around .

Dicky betts ...The Allman Bros . Ther in lies his influences including Hendrix .... He is scholled by the ORIGINALS of a period and then some .

All the best to him !!

  • Joe's a bit of a musical chameleon - he kind of quotes the little inflections & licks of however he plays with- gotta love that jam he did with Clapton at the RAH for example... that tone though, like a tenor opera singer...;-)

  • I WAS AT THAT SHOW!!!!

  • This is great stuff from both players.

And I definitely do know what the hype about Derek is.

Joe is a great blues guitar player,

but Derek is one of the most talented and

diverse players in the world - probably the best slide guitar player. That´s a fact.

  • @TheEarthDiedScreamin Best slide in the world? Check out David Tronzo!

  • dude seriously?

  • Joe is amazing... BUT, there are a lot of players that sound like him, or he sounds like. However you want to look at it. Nobody sounds like Derek. That fool is unique. The only guitarist he sounds like is Jimmy Herring but Herring plays more fusion. Derek sounds more like an amazing soulful singer than a guitarist. 'nuff said.

  • CL rides, you are funny. You must be a little kid lol!!

  • I seen Derek 47 time and i don't see what all the hypi is with Joe! how does that make you feel?

  • I understand completely. Joe is good and all but I always feel I've heard it before when he plays. Derek on the other hand seems much more inventive and original.

  • "Joe is good and all but I always feel I've heard it before when he plays."

You must be living on another planet.....

  • Nope, just Planet Earth. :-)

  • Nope, just Planet Earth. :-)

  • No, just Planet Earth. :-)

  • No, just Planet Earth. :-)

  • No, just Planet Earth. :-)

  • Planet Earth. :-)

  • that's real funny !!

  • well, you got me here... this is sick!

  • too much!!!

  • Jesus John!!!! What an animal. Just too funky. DR

  • Joe owns it!!

  • this is the best solo I have heard Joe play for a while fuckin awesome man

  • 2 of the best blues/rock artist alive in my opinion

  • *all time. :)

  • Joe maybe not Derek, try Sonny Landreth

  • when derek started the riff from who knows i lost it.... sooo great

  • Such a solid lick at 2:42...

  • Joe made that solo his bitch...haha

  • Thats great was there at well in the front put up a vid if you wanna check it out

  • super duo:D <3 great post man !

  • Joe's no light wieght!!!

  • Cockeysville, Md.??

  • Derek takes 'em all to school. Amazing that a kid I saw play in a bar in Florida when he was about 11 grew up to make people like Eric Clapton shake their heads in awe. So cool.
