  • I think you speak very good English. People in America tend to over pronounce words and syllables. So if anything, you just need to work on your pronunciation. If you're going to study biology in the U.S. then Stanford, Harvard, UC-Berkeley, and Duke have really good programs.

  • I from colombia, and I stand u

  • alabamians speak very slow but you are doing fine with english

  • @mitomke that's relative..Alabamians sound slow to us because we understand English..

  • I'm from germany I'm 70 years old

  • Your accent is not that bad, i mean it's noticable to the point we know where you are at in the world in origin, really all you need to work on in order to sound better is attempt to get words out faster and with less umms and pauses. Choose American english, lol. honestly it doesnt matter, whichever one we understand, as long as it's english. have fun. im trying to learn German myself, any tips so i can remember the der, die, and das? those are freaking annoying me.

  • @TheMGOkilla Hello, I'm German. But I think we Germans can not help you with the der, die, das , because this is our language since we were born. Die is female, der is male and das is neuter. The Best is to ask your Teacher :)

    Greetings from Germany !

  • @xDRickiexD ha thanks, its just something i get pissed with when my teacher always corrects me :D

  • your english is good evry country have their own accent

  • I think your english is good. I'm italian and i could understand you ;-)

  • Schjual...hahahaha...lol

  • BAAAAAD

  • America has MANY different dialects. I am from South Carolina and I might have had difficulty with with the thick accents you probably encountered there. An analogy might be encountering a Cockney accent in England. I lived in Australia as a child and had an Aussie accent which when i returned cancelled out my Southern accent and now I have a neutral accent (not Southern) according to Yankees I meet (they have their own distinct accents). Time and practice will help you with the speed.

  • I love it when german women speak English its so cute!

  • sounds like you can speak English better then I can speak German. Your guys words are so long

  • It's actually really good. i'm trying to learn german myself.

  • Your english is really good! If you're going to American, go to California, Washington, New York (dependsl which area though), Massachusetts (again depends), Missouri, Montana (maybe) so you can hear "regular" English without certain accents. Stay away from southern states as those are ones that a majority have different dialects than what is considered regular english. :)

  • I think your English is good enough. You don't have to sound native.

You are native of your own language.

    Roberto

  • i think your english is british accent ,

but you can talk in american =) if you want

    Keep going girl !~

you're good just keep it =)

  • I thought most germans spoke more towards an english accent, but i guess it all depends.

  • Fuck English 11.9 no body in german spek english waht are you doing girl

  • You're doing well! Keep up the good work. Also, go with the British English - they sound much better and more educated than us Americans.

  • Sie klingen gut. Hören Sie einfach sagen:"crammer" und starten Sie sagen, "Grammer"

  • @Love2SIngduU101 DON´T TRY GOOGLE TRANSLATOR! xD

  • @claywillamsburg Lolz, why not? Haha. My Dad's from Alabama and I can understand him. And i'm from California. Haha

  • Lolz. At first I thought you said seventy but then I was like, No, she definitely said seventeen ;P oh and your english is very well :)

  • What is it with people being taught the American version of English ! I love Americans but its really annoys me, especially as an English person ! Its called English so why are people not learning the proper English version and rather the tweeked US version ? Oh well :P lol

  • @LeiaAlexis Are you speaking Old English? It's certainly way more original than the tweaked modern version people speak now. As a German, it annoys me that people don't speak the original version anymore, since it's a Germanic language and closer to German and "German" and "Germanic" sound close enough, therefore I have the right to say that. You see, this type of argument is just pointless. Language is fluid, it evolves.

  • @Chaeromanie I dont think u quite understood my point, either that or I didnt explain it right. Oh well, it doesnt matter either way because I was making a statement not an arguement.

  • @LeiaAlexis I'm sure I understood you just fine. The thing is: It's the Internet. The place where a condescending and arrogant sounding statement will be called out and therefore become an argument. That's what happened. Although your statement doesn't represent you and I'm not judging you as a person, because you might not be aware of how it sounds to other people, your comment itself was pretty ignorant, all that while not writing proper English yourself.

  • @Chaeromanie No I was writing that I dont understand why non native English speakers are taught the US tweeked version, not the UK. I had a German penpal over who actually couldnt understand some of the things I said because she wasnt used to my accent + pronounciation of words, if her school is exhanging with people from the UK, why teach them the US version ? I havent slagged anyone off and im not "ignorant".

  • @LeiaAlexis You may not be ignorant, but you sound ignorant. Germans aren't taught the US version, but the English version of the language. Why she didn't understand you? I don't know. We start learning the English version and then in about 9th/10th grade, we learn the US version. Maybe your accent isn't as Standard English as you'd like to believe. As beautiful as most English accents are, as hard are they to understand if you're a foreigner, because your accent may be just as tweaked.

  • @Chaeromanie Oh yeah I forgot to add on ....

But thankyou for inlightning me on what versions your taught at school, from what I was told it was only US, so some of the words they taught were different :P Maybe listening to natives wasnt my exchange partners strongest area, I know its definately not mine,I like to think I dont sound like a farmer, but maybe I do + dont know it. And I never implied u were taught the wrong things, just different to what I expected, ur putting words in my mouth.

  • @LeiaAlexis I can't comment on what you sound like, but there is a difference between not speaking the national standard and sounding like a farmer, or so I was taught. I assume hearing your own accent is difficult, because it's the norm to you. (I know it is hard to me. Deep down in my heart I want to believe I sound like a sophisticated princess and not like the German equivalent of a chav. But I know it's not true.)

  • @Chaeromanie Lol :) Well id rather sound like a farmer then a chav thats for sure haha X) You dont come across as being chavvy if that makes you feel better, you write like your very well educated, your English is fab ! :) The chavs that I speak too couldnt string a proper sentence together if they were paid ! I like to think I sound sophisicated :) I like to talk extra posh infront of people I dont know just so I dont sound like I spend my day plowing fields X)

  • @LeiaAlexis Actually, I do think you are ignorant, although I am sure this isn't your intention. There is a foreigner learning your native tongue and instead of thinking that she won't understand you because of an obvious language barrier, you imply that foreigners are taught the wrong things.

  • @Chaeromanie Oh well lets just agree to disagree, personally I dont get it but there may be a reasoning for it, or maybe its not as major as I think.. oh well. And again, im not ignorant, its called being curious or confused about something (I find ignorance alil insulting)... people use that word far too often. And btw you dont need to be a kiss arse, alot of English accents are far from beautiful =P lol !

  • @LeiaAlexis I do think it's ignorant, but you are right, when you say it's overused. I meant it in the original way: You didn't know and while you were aware of not knowing, you didn't do any research. (And made some assumptions, which, again, is quite normal, when you think about it.) It doesn't sound as bad now, does it? I don't mean to insult or offend.

I think, plenty of English accents sound pretty, because they are, to me, exotic and because I'm ignorant towards the different sociolects.

  • @Chaeromanie Lol ok your right ! Ill admit I was ignorant ! Happy now ? X) I think I need to explain things better from now on lol !

And trust me not alot of English accents are pretty ! Not in my opnion anyway :P The people round me sound like Farmers, even I cant understand them at times, which is why I try and talk as "proper" as possible X)

  • @LeiaAlexis Happy? If you only knew! I just called my whole family to pat me on the back for being stubborn on the Internet!

And please don't tell me that they sound like farmers. To me, it really does sound pleasing and nice and somewhat elegant. You're shattering my heart. Great, now you ruined my happy-moment! But to hear that even natives can't understand some of the accents does make me feel better, because sometimes, all I hear is: "sjfkdfsfWORDdfsdflANOTHERWORD", and I end up confused.

  • Girl, I love your English! With your German accent, it even sounds that much sweeter!

  • Im American and I can't understand people from Alabama. Otherwise I think your're English is great.

  • omg I want to learn german

  • it is very impressive madam I wish to you the best of luck!

  • You sound very clear to me as you put a great effort in presenting yourself here..dont worry if you make any mistakes as it is always trial and error and also dont beat yourself up with your spelling as i always have had trouble with that and i am native english so never give up and good luck in your future!!

  • People in Alabama speaking quickly? Wait until you get up north and northeast! Southerners generally speak with a rather slow tempo. Your English is pretty good, and you'll do just fine. Just speak English. Don't sweat your accent so much. Ever listen to Arnold Schwartzenegger speak? He still clings to his Austrian accent and he is an "A" list movie star and former governor of California. America is very multicultural and diverse. You'll be fine here.

  • My German teacher told me Germans start learning English when they're in like 2nd grade. I think that's awesome. Here in America we barely get any exposure to other languages, so we really miss out compared to other countries. :<

  • @RobotnikHotCakes9000 I can only speak for myself and the people around me, but none of them have learned English in the second grade. They might have changed it, but since I'm quite young, this really surprises me. Most people start learning English in 6th or 7th grade, depending on what kind of school they go to.

  • @RobotnikHotCakes9000 What about spanish? Theres tons of that

  • yes, english is good..advice would be english grammer is the true grammer....the american way is just typical american...changing vocabulary and pronouncing english words incorrectly. By all means study over in america if you wish but just for future reference you wont be learning or using proper english vocabulary over there

  • If you're thinking about studying in the states, my tip is: It's all about the money, money, money, they just need your money, money, money. Yep it's pretty costly here. I believe in Germany it's relatively cheap to go to a university, right?

  • @IcyFalls it's "diesen Hinweis" :)

Your German is pretty good, keep on working ^-^ And you're right, it's way cheaper to study here in Germany than in the USA :b

  • I understood 100% of everything you said, so don't beat yourself up, you're doing so good! In the United States, like all countries, that the accents will vary by region. The various accents in the U.S. are very distinct. You'll find that the more diverse a city is, the accents will be less apparent, and easier to understand. Also, don't be concerned with learning the British or American accent. Your German accent is very nice, and it lets people know where you're from. Embrace it!

  • hey are you reading some text there ? any way good job

  • Well, at least you know the words. Accent...well lets just say stick to german lol and im from alabama :)

  • you speak english just like my ex-girlfriend... she is german too. I unterstand your english ;)

  • seventy or seventeen?

  • goldamn, you look pretty good for a 70 year old lol

  • Come to Australia :)

  • I like American English, but your accent is cool.  mostly your grammar is pretty good. You will get the hang of it. When you listen to us speak, you can hear the wrong pronunciations, same with us. The language is different and so we are going to say it different. I think you are doing great and it would be awesome to study here! 

  • I took German several semesters, you are way ahead of me.

    Kudos!

  • you did great for a starter to english and i REALLY want to learn german so I teach you english and you teach me german...you do not have to

  • proNOUNciation.

  • Comment removed

  • Very easy to understand by this old American guy. But your accent is appealing to my ears, so I couldn't honestly encourage you to try to lose it.

  • I don't know if I'm just repeating things other people have said (and this is coming from an American). You speak good English when it comes to being understood, but if you are working to lose your accent, you have a long way to go, especially if you wish to sound American. I recommend watching videos of Americans or movies, and practicing mimicking their speech. Grammar is quite good but not perfect. Keep practicing, you will get there!

  • Bravo, really, bravo.

  • Its Good, a little off, but I can understand you clearly

  • @finsternis1986 Why, danke sehr. :] Always looking to improve.

  • it's ok. was it impossible to understand american? as you said, it's normal because many people think their english is so hard to hear... they're kind of different from british speakers... and my enlgish teacher said, students from other countries have to open their mouths bigger and then speak clearly^^ so do i! thanks for this video!

  • everything's horrible.

  • im on the same situation, im spanish and im trying to practice my english speaking around internet :).

Relax girl :) u are perfectly understandable.

    Cya :)

DX

  • @flowerbloodable As a fellow German language lover/learner, I thought I'd make some constructive corrections: *Wenn instead of ob, *anschauen, *wirst du den amerikanischen Akzent bekommen, *wenn ich Fehler gemacht habe, *ist nicht so fantastisch. I hope I don't seem rude---your German is quite good and understandable. I just like to help if I can ;)

  • very good english. im learning spanish and i dont think i will ever get as far as you are in english :)

  • German accents are hot! im a girl but yeah when german boys speak english...always sounds interesting to hear

  • Your English is awesome!

  • Of all places, why did you go to Alabama? What a shit hole state

  • i think i have a boner. gulp!

  • Ich ben dain vater....

  • You look good for 70.

  • I agree with the comment below, it sounded like you said you were 70. Your English is pretty good though, definitely better than my German :-). I don't know any. If you choose to study in America, I'll warn you that if you think people in Alabama talk fast than you should go up North like to New York or even West to California. I live in Virginia and pretty much the states around it (VA included) are known to 'talk slow'... Not all parts are the same though, and as the person below me commente

  • Your English is sounding great! Other people have pointed out a few issues which I won't go over, I'll just add that if you ever feel like we're talking too fast, please tell us! Most Americans are polite enough to slow it down a bit once we know we're talking to a non-native speaker. Some people might slow down way too much, but it's better than speaking quickly the way we normally would!

    Hope this helps!

  • "i am 70 years old" lol your english is good but the accent is strong

  • Guten Tag!! :) Come to Canada. :) <3

  • you're English is great!

  • I like your German accent, it add's character. Your English is well by the way.

  • hey I'm Anglo-Indian myself and I've spend like 7 years studying in England and it was a fantastic being there....The only thing I love over here in Germany (where I currently reside) is the girls accent and I guess I love you people for that. I came to Germany to attend an Engineering programme in English but I'm finding it hard to adjust with locals probably because my German is 'nicht so gut" but I suppose your's is and I envy you for that ;) good luck with your decision making!

  • You sound like a perfect American: English with an accent!

  • @Ostermelone Wow! your english , is amazing

  • You speak English pretty well. I can understand you and that is the most important thing. Good luck and can you make a video on how to speak German? :)

  • 70 years old? fucking hell your doing well

  • MY GRAMMAR nicht MY KRAMMER :D:D

  • Ich lerne deustch zur schule! Es ist meine zwei jahre lernen. Your english is very good! I'd say, try working on pronouncing words less harsh. I had to learn the opossite for learning german because the words have a harder sound. try softening your words a bit.

  • lol @people criticizing her when half americans talk like they are fucking retarded!

  • you speak well but when you say school you over pronounce it

p.s. you speak good keep practicing and you will get better

  • Ja, du English ist prima!

  • @xXkritozXx I'm pretty sure prima is an old fashioned word not used a lot by Germans.

  • @vikingcrest12 Really? That's weird, in my German 1 class we haven't heard anything about that.

  • echt nich

  • Don't worry, no one in Alabama has anything important to say anyway...

  • Speak 2 words and I know you're German - like me. Try to speak softer, a bit faster and improve your "th"- noise (I know it's hard for us). If the Americans kid you for your "th", make them learn our "ch" - *lol*

  • Your english is amazing :D

  • Your 17...not 70 loveeee :/ !

  • It's good! You can say the "TH" sound very nicely. There were German exchange students at my school last year and they replaced the "th" with "z" which made it hard to understand them. Or should I say zem ;D

  • so sound very good !!!!!!!!!!

  • In general, your English is good. There are classic German problems of pronunciation, for example "these" you say as "tese" or "dese". Many students have a difficulty with the "theta" and "thorn" variants on "-th-" or "-the-". But you speak well enough in English that you have a British accent. You do a very passable job with complex construction of long sentences. However, "brevity is the soul of wit" and "concision is desirable". Yet we can easily understand you. I am from Washington DC.

  • people from down south are imbreaded girl and ruin are english

  • Wow, you speak better than my German exchanges students!

    Alabama?

.... HMM. WERE YOU IN MY SCHOOL? P:

  • You couldn't understand them because you're in Alabama, fast souther accents,

unless you're in Southern Alabam, you're going to hear mumbled words, that sound fast, but the accent is just too deep to understand.

  • Ihr Englisch ist besser als mein deutsch!

  • sevenTEEN, not sevenTY. Other than that, your English is good :)

Careful, though, because universities here in America are SUPER expensive!! Many Americans can't even afford to attend them X(

P.S. I also prefer the American way of English ^.^

  • Your English is very well! You do have an obvious accent though. Besides that I understood everything that you were saying :) it's funny though because u were pronouncing pronounce wrong. The Irony xD

  • it sounds amazing~

  • your english is amazing! it sounds super natural and its just......like....amazing! Good job! keep praticing!

  • You have very beautiful eyes! But, also, there isn't anything you have to fix with your accent, just keep practicing~

  • why is everyone worry about how their english is

  • @24meatballs International Language. Better for job opportunities.

  • @24 You don't worry about your english, if and only if you are a native speaker.

  • i think your English is very good! You should be very proud of yourself! You are not alone in not understanding people from Alabama, they have very strong southern accents, and even I have to ask them to repeat themselves. I give you an A+

    Jeff USA

  • @jbu088731 Alabamian here, sorry for the confusion, regions in the U.S. tend to have different dialects and even some words or phrases are made up...

  • Relax, your English is better than some Americans.

  • The only tip I could give you is to just relax, and take it slow! You sound great, and you're so adorable! <3 Nice work.

  • Your grammar is perfect. But then again, it's similar to German grammar anyway. Right?

  • Sounds pretty good, sometimes you leave out some syllables though.

  • you have no accent! your pronounciation is perfect!!!!! but in the beginning it sounded like you said 70(seventy) but I am pretty sure you meant 17 (seventeen)

  • I understand you quite well, in fact i bet if i met you i would go nuts, i love Germany and the german people ^^

  • Hey!

Viel glueck.

  • I think it sound good. I went to kenturky in us. That school, they got two persons from german and first time i heard them said. That hard to understand them actually i think you good than them. The last thing you gonna increase confident.:) first time i went us i can't get what they said too. After that i get what they said cus i adjust my life. If you stay long time in there i think you'll get better ;)

  • the only thing i would say is that your v's sound very much like w's, especially when you say "visit" and "very" (sounds like "wisit" and "wery", haha :). but other than that, you're very good at english, and it's good to concentrate on speaking correctly, like you are (i can tell you're thinking about it when you speak :). and personally, i love british english, i think it's beautiful, but that could be because i'm from america and british english sounds so elegant here, haha.

  • Sounds VERY good

  • I think your Englisch sounds wonderful. I do believe, however, that being around the Arkansas-style of speach, that may have been a part of your trouble learning. Arkansas has a very strong "southern style" accent, it would be comparable to your country's "low german". Next time in Amerika, try to visit more northern states where the Englisch is much clearer and precise. Tschüss.

  • i think go to london to study bioligy. english people understand you very well. everyone has a accent. you speak clearly. you have done a very good job of learning English. greetings from england:D

  • England has a more formal way of talking although it all depends on where you are. Different states in America and different areas in England have different accents. I think that you would find British English much better to understand because we don't tend to talk as fast as the Americans. Also, I personally find that southern English accents are easier to understand because sometimes I find it hard to understand what Northern English and american people say but that's just what I think.

  • no offence btw, but ur accent is pretty understandable n maybe sexy?? lol :)

  • what? i think i just heard "I'm 70" dont u mean 17?????

  • You are english is great! Keep it up :)

  • @itsgracesimone8

    you are english is great?

  • english is the hardest language to learn. good job.

  • Pretty good. Spelling is hard in English for native speakers. The exposure to speech in Alabama probably helped to get the feel for the cadence of the language. I've had the same problem in Europe. It gets easier. Good luck.

  • i think your english is great..very good pronunciation also :)

  • You sound pretty good...pronunciation is pretty good. I understand you perfectly....American English is a "slang"...it is not as precise as brittish english is....The only tip I can give you is to watch american movies....lots of them...not the ones with the cuss words....good luck...You really do sound good.

  • LOL people in Alabama speek very slow to us. Your English is very good and I understood everything you said. Cheers from USA.

  • Study in Canada, people generally have one set accent unless your Newfi!! I love how your speak so proper, love your accent xD Your pronunciation is very good actually.

  • Are you going to make another video with your progress?

  • your english is very good. keep practicing!! btw im learning german

  • HAHAHA I can only imagine how hard it is for someone foreign to understand a southerner when us Americans can barely understand them. :P

  • I love your accent!
