It is not a human populaltion problem, it is a garbage waste management and recycyling problem. The truth is that this Earth can comfortably hold 27 billion people each having their own 2 acre lot, but only if everyone did their job of conserving Earths resources, and did all jobs as team work and were socially sane, which will never happen under man's current governments ever !!! Mankind is way too greedy, competitive, lazy and stupid to realize this for their own future good and well being. Yo
@aarowsmith1 No it can't, because we don't have 54 billion acres of land, unless you're interested in setting up your 2 acres in Antarctica.
In reality, there's around 16 billion acres of habitable land on the planet. With 2 acres per person we'll be at our limit in 10 years, and that's without me even taking into account the 6 billion+ acres occupied by other species and non-residential land.
what a bunch of hyped crap, not one clear picture of this area, just some scenes here and there, anyone can put garbage in a jar and make claims, pure propagandist BS.
We built things meant to break and be tossed out. They could make cars that live for a lot longer, but do they? Nope. Why? Money. Simple answers, really, and yet so disgusting. That's not something anyone has to tell you, because you see it everywhere. Think of water bottles, chairs, toys... All these things expire sooner than they need to because we're cheap. And we're doing this to our world. We deserve to die out, or at least dramatically change... How long are we gonna get away with this? :/
As scary as it sounds, this is the truth. We're destroying the only home we have, and we need to stop. This should have millions more views. We have solutions; we just need to follow through.
@1Foggia well ur just a fucking xian idiot. of course you dont care about it. ur trying to destroy us. well you can fuck off kike. we dont want ur race on our planet. just leave us to be

1839 the first plastic was utilized, in the form of natural rubber.
99 years later, Styrofoam is invented.
88 years later, this happens.
77 years from now. The increased mass production of plastic will most likly lead to catastrophic contamination affecting all life and all envirments on earth.
The air will become contaminated from vapors carried by winds.
Many animals will become sterile and will quickly become extinct.
Needless to say this issue must be resolved quikly.
Big deal, in thirty years tops, well have flown it off to the sun. Also homophobism and racism will cease to exist, we'll have discovered an alternative energy source, and only good movies will be allowed to be made.
Is this gross and bad? Sure. But like typical environmentalist stories, blown way out of proportion.
They show you pictures of huge concentrations of garbage all piled together so tight you could almost walk across it. Reality is it's about 10 lbs of plastic per square kilometer and most of it is broken down so much it's invisible to the naked eye. Why can't environmentalists present straightforward facts instead of fearmongering?
@silverG2007 the terrible thing about this is that the particles are so small they can be consumed by sea life. which allows it to be consumed by humans. so even if its just for selfish reasons, you can be concerned. its not just about saving the whales this time, its about changing the careless way of life we've grown accustomed to.
I'm not saying we shouldn't be concerned. Just pointing out the fact that when environmentalists "cry wolf" all the time for the purpose of publicity, we have a hard time trusting anything they say.
Most people that hear about "garbage island... twice the size of the US" and see pictures of garbage piled up, expect and ACTUAL island of garbage twice the size of the US. Which is exactly what the environmentalists want you to think, they're deceiving you on purpose.
This video would be 10x better without that annoying guy talking all "like, like where you know like there was like a thousand to one ratio like, you see like you know like little chunks like that sorta floats like you see like"
30 years ago there was not many items that were packaged in plastic. Growing up in a grocery store I recall almost everything was in Tin's, Glass bottles/Jars, and paper sacks. Plastic was cheaper and easier. My grandpa still has a 7Up 2 liter Glass bottle full in his pantry with a thin Styrofoam label. No liquid soap it was all bars or powder. Bleach, dressings, oils, ketchup, peanut butter it all was glass.
@enkopingsbo Brilliant ! ...starting in our homes ...if we choose to identify and name all of our plastics then this post consumer commodity could be re sourced in an open transparent fair trade market ...we would eliminate the plastic part of garbage, eliminate dangerous oil mining practices, reduce our cost of living, create a new source of income for conscientious individuals,
...We could identify our homes as the safest kind of mines and forensic evidence storehouses
Please check out The Zeitgeist Movement & The Venus Project because OUR SYSTEM DOESN'T WORK! Let's hand our children the tools to help make a POSITIVE CHANGE for the future! Thanks!
well... we might not kill the planet, but we are killing ourselves and everything else that lives here... sooo, maybe not for our sake but for the sake of the wildlife that hasn't done any of the damage, maybe we should change a few things. kinda selfish if we dont, no?
@sasktank why do you think its ok? you really changed my perspective! Something thats 268,820 square miles is small? Now i know the earth is huge compared to that, but its not like garbage island is getting smaller. whats fucked up is that, people like you will be around till the earth finally breaksdown and you will still say " nahh, the earth is massive, how could we have possibly done anything to it, Asia, anarctica and africa is small compared to the earth!"
Ocean Voyage Institute is making a HUGE effort to clean up this mess. They are currently raising funds to go the North Pacific Gyre this summer with a team of volunteers to collect the plastic and trash that has accumulated there, as well as researching environmentally friendly ways to dispose of it. Please help save our oceans and the wildlife that live there by googling “dream sail raffle” and visiting our website, as well as posting it on your pages!
@Bigrusssthefuss You r right...Soon i think ...the entire ocean will be with plastic and not fishes...It is a global problem and every body is responsible ....we can't expect companies to stop making things, we need to be smart and stop buying the good that cause damage and they will adapt to our requirement...the sad part is every thing today has plastic...even our underwear has elastic band which is not good...so wr do we start the stop....
@creativeganesh you start the stop by doing the best you can, dont use plastic bag at the grocery, and wash your dishes. You can buy biodegradable soap. theres alot, and by you doing this and telling someone else, it starts a chain reaction.
@creativeganesh yeah i shop at publix cuz its in my area and they have a "natural" section, with organic, vegan food, they have all the other products too
We wouldn't have this problem if people weren't so apathetic. Why would anyone throw trash into a river? It's beyond my comprehension. I don't understand why it's so hard for some people to throw trash into a trash can.
@MishuTaste It's not just people throwing trash into rivers; what do you think happens to plastic in landfills? It photo-degrades and washes away with the rain into the waterways and eventually ends up in the ocean.
The problem is bigger than littering, and the solution is recycling and decreasing our use of plastics. Recycling has come very far in the past couple of decades, but some plastics are still non recyclable.
How can I get this to use as a learning tool for the student's I visit in classrooms? As we all know, "seeing" is believing, and it would hold a much greater impact on the information Im providing them with if they could see what Im talking about as well. Excellent information. Saddens me very deeply to see how little the human race cares about our oceans and marine life. We will cease to exist ourselves without them.
The human race isn't ruining the planet. Just a part of the living things on it, including (and mostly) ourselves. And global warming? we're not causing it, we MIGHT speed it up a LITTLE. its a never ending cycle: warming -> ice age -> warming -> ice age etc etc. It's been proven that Europe has been tropical. 80% of trash in the ocean comes from land.. uuh? DUH!?
@EliteGhost001 Is it a natural part of the cycle to have thousands of gallons of oil pouring into the ocean, garbage everywhere, and refined fuels burning into the air. They say 80% because they were saying how much comes from the ocean and people on boats. I would have guessed it would be higher then 80%. How cute is your ignorance?
@Dylan6281 Oil itself is a product of nature, have you thought about that? now ofcourse its a mess and when animals eat a lot of it, they'll die. But the fish that eat small bits are not gonna be poisened. Birds only die because when covered in oil, the can't do much. But humans ( and especialy the US) can make a huge drama about everything. Don't get me wrong: blaiming BP is right, trying the keep the beaches clean is outstanding.. but shit happens and oil is nature too.
@EliteGhost001 I knew you were going to say that. The oil they were drilling for was buried 2.4 miles under the ocean floor. It would have remain undisturbed if nobody drilled for it. Saying shit happens doesn't make it okay.... Are you retarded?
excuse me? who are you calling retarded. Now regardless how ignorand you are, have you thought about this: earthquakes (now I don't know if this was in an area where earthquakes can occure but other oilfields are) could easily make a hole for the oil to get to the surface. Now if you can't say anithing whithout insulting, get the fuck off youtube.
@EliteGhost001 I have to agree with Dylan6281, you are a retard!
Toxins in the water, like oil, stick to the plastic. When smaller fish ingest the plastic are the oil, then the bigger fish eats a bunch of them, the toxin levels increase and make their way up the food chain to us.
so now I'm ignorand? well thank you very much. So if I'm ignorand, the people who don't realy see my point of view (I'm not saying they should agree) are retards?
It's not a matter of death or extinction, both of which are natural cycles in any ecosystem. It's about retaining the eco-diversity that would have been. As a result of human interaction, we have ruined far more than ourselves (far too late to do anything about that). Humans will die off, eventually.
The only thing that will fuel conservation efforts to the place it needs to be to attempt to salvage what is left is man's own fear for his continued existence. Pretty disheartening stuff.
@boom1shot We as humans have to be re-educated and this will only come when we can actually stop living within a survival mode by not having enough money so that we can actually understand and take care of these type of situations that are life-matters which are being disregarded in a world where everyone is just looking after themselves to live by the next day. We have to look at the context of the origin of these type of negligence done by all of us using plastic and disposing garbage daily
@boom1shot and u know that man isnt going to do much about it in the short term, only when we teeter on the brink of extinction will something be done about it in which case it will be too late. humans are lazy, wasteful and destructive. the earth will survive there is no question about that, its just that everything else will die off.
Your comment makes no sense if in fact you make a post which is a response in itself. I ask that you study harder in school (particularly english) . There maybe a chance for you as an adult yet. Good luck
Study harder in school? I'm done with school and I am a hardware designer. You know those weird complex chips that go in your computer? Yeah i make those. I think since I'm 19 and have my own house and steady income and lifestyle i have a good chance at continuing my adult life.
Don't worry its all grammatically correct for you. :D

I see no island.
supergsx 11 months ago
Is this gross and bad? Sure. But like typical environmentalist stories, blown way out of proportion.
They show you pictures of huge concentrations of garbage all piled together so tight you could almost walk across it. Reality is it's about 10 lbs of plastic per square kilometer and most of it is broken down so much it's invisible to the naked eye. Why can't environmentalists present straightforward facts instead of fearmongering?
silverG2007 11 months ago
@silverG2007 the terrible thing about this is that the particles are so small they can be consumed by sea life. which allows it to be consumed by humans. so even if its just for selfish reasons, you can be concerned. its not just about saving the whales this time, its about changing the careless way of life we've grown accustomed to.
theniclasridiclas 11 months ago
@theniclasridiclas
Which is exactly what the environmentalists want you to think, they're deceiving you on purpose.
silverG2007 11 months ago
@silverG2007 That would take all of the fun out of it. Objective thinking has all but died in our society.

Sad how it all has gone to crap.

Maybe we can construct plastic mines in the future? just like we mine oil today.
enkopingsbo 1 year ago
@enkopingsbo mine for plastic? what a horrid idea! if we were doing that, the planet would already be dead from too much garbage.
jamesphilip911 1 year ago
@enkopingsbo Brilliant ! ...starting in our homes ...if we choose to identify and name all of our plastics then this post consumer commodity could be re sourced in an open transparent fair trade market ...we would eliminate the plastic part of garbage, eliminate dangerous oil mining practices, reduce our cost of living, create a new source of income for conscientious individuals,
...We could identify our homes as the safest kind of mines and forensic evidence storehouses

sasktank 1 year ago
@sasktank why do you think its ok? you really changed my perspective! Something thats 268,820 square miles is small? Now i know the earth is huge compared to that, but its not like garbage island is getting smaller. whats fucked up is that, people like you will be around till the earth finally breaksdown and you will still say " nahh, the earth is massive, how could we have possibly done anything to it, Asia, anarctica and africa is small compared to the earth!"
what do we do then? uhhh...?

Ocean Voyage Institute is making a HUGE effort to clean up this mess. They are currently raising funds to go the North Pacific Gyre this summer with a team of volunteers to collect the plastic and trash that has accumulated there, as well as researching environmentally friendly ways to dispose of it. Please help save our oceans and the wildlife that live there by googling “dream sail raffle” and visiting our website, as well as posting it on your pages!

@Bigrusssthefuss You r right...Soon i think ...the entire ocean will be with plastic and not fishes...It is a global problem and every body is responsible ....we can't expect companies to stop making things, we need to be smart and stop buying the good that cause damage and they will adapt to our requirement...the sad part is every thing today has plastic...even our underwear has elastic band which is not good...so wr do we start the stop....
creativeganesh 1 year ago
@creativeganesh you start the stop by doing the best you can, dont use plastic bag at the grocery, and wash your dishes. You can buy biodegradable soap. theres alot, and by you doing this and telling someone else, it starts a chain reaction.

We wouldn't have this problem if people weren't so apathetic. Why would anyone throw trash into a river? It's beyond my comprehension. I don't understand why it's so hard for some people to throw trash into a trash can.
MishuTaste 1 year ago
@MishuTaste It's not just people throwing trash into rivers; what do you think happens to plastic in landfills? It photo-degrades and washes away with the rain into the waterways and eventually ends up in the ocean.
The problem is bigger than littering, and the solution is recycling and decreasing our use of plastics. Recycling has come very far in the past couple of decades, but some plastics are still non recyclable.

As we all know, "seeing" is believing, and it would hold a much greater impact on the information Im providing them with if they could see what Im talking about as well. Excellent information. Saddens me very deeply to see how little the human race cares about our oceans and marine life. We will cease to exist ourselves without them.
SharkGirl1220 1 year ago 5
OMG HE SAID THE WORD "HELL" @ 3:03
BreatherOfAir180 1 year ago
The human race isn't ruining the planet. Just a part of the living things on it, including (and mostly) ourselves. And global warming? we're not causing it, we MIGHT speed it up a LITTLE. its a never ending cycle: warming -> ice age -> warming -> ice age etc etc. It's been proven that Europe has been tropical. 80% of trash in the ocean comes from land.. uuh? DUH!?
EliteGhost001 1 year ago
@EliteGhost001 Is it a natural part of the cycle to have thousands of gallons of oil pouring into the ocean, garbage everywhere, and refined fuels burning into the air. They say 80% because they were saying how much comes from the ocean and people on boats. I would have guessed it would be higher then 80%. How cute is your ignorance?
Dylan6281 1 year ago
@Dylan6281 Oil itself is a product of nature, have you thought about that? now ofcourse its a mess and when animals eat a lot of it, they'll die. But the fish that eat small bits are not gonna be poisened. Birds only die because when covered in oil, the can't do much. But humans ( and especialy the US) can make a huge drama about everything. Don't get me wrong: blaiming BP is right, trying the keep the beaches clean is outstanding.. but shit happens and oil is nature too.
EliteGhost001 1 year ago
@EliteGhost001 I knew you were going to say that. The oil they were drilling for was buried 2.4 miles under the ocean floor. It would have remain undisturbed if nobody drilled for it. Saying shit happens doesn't make it okay.... Are you retarded?
Dylan6281 1 year ago
@Dylan6281
excuse me? who are you calling retarded. Now regardless how ignorand you are, have you thought about this: earthquakes (now I don't know if this was in an area where earthquakes can occure but other oilfields are) could easily make a hole for the oil to get to the surface. Now if you can't say anithing whithout insulting, get the fuck off youtube.
EliteGhost001 1 year ago
@EliteGhost001 I have to agree with Dylan6281, you are a retard!
Toxins in the water, like oil, stick to the plastic. When smaller fish ingest the plastic are the oil, then the bigger fish eats a bunch of them, the toxin levels increase and make their way up the food chain to us.
ChrisArcen 1 year ago
@EliteGhost001 how very ignorant of you!
SharkGirl1220 1 year ago
@SharkGirl1220
so now I'm ignorand? well thank you very much. So if I'm ignorand, the people who don't realy see my point of view (I'm not saying they should agree) are retards?
EliteGhost001 1 year ago
It's not a matter of death or extinction, both of which are natural cycles in any ecosystem. It's about retaining the eco-diversity that would have been. As a result of human interaction, we have ruined far more than ourselves (far too late to do anything about that). Humans will die off, eventually.
The only thing that will fuel conservation efforts to the place it needs to be to attempt to salvage what is left is man's own fear for his continued existence. Pretty disheartening stuff.
boom1shot 1 year ago 20
@boom1shot We as humans have to be re-educated and this will only come when we can actually stop living within a survival mode by not having enough money so that we can actually understand and take care of these type of situations that are life-matters which are being disregarded in a world where everyone is just looking after themselves to live by the next day. We have to look at the context of the origin of these type of negligence done by all of us using plastic and disposing garbage daily
MarlenLife 1 year ago
@boom1shot and u know that man isnt going to do much about it in the short term, only when we teeter on the brink of extinction will something be done about it in which case it will be too late. humans are lazy, wasteful and destructive. the earth will survive there is no question about that, its just that everything else will die off.
