Very nice video. on my website I have online texting for free for anyone to use. You can create a contact list of friends and business people send a text to all in one click. just go to my profile to see.

Not that I endorse them in any way shape or form, but Wal*Mart has it for $40 less than T-Mobile right now as part of an exclusive deal. Still, I think I'll cough up the extra $40 just to not have to step inside a Wal*Mart.
Although this phone isn't as stylish as the iPhone, I think that it's functionally a better piece of technology.
I steer away from Apple products anyway since I found out that Al Gore is on their board. I think that the man is a crock. It seems like Apple pushes agendas more than it promotes its products.
It doesn't have the iconic and polished design of the iPhone but it's a fantastic start for the Android platform. A couple of my friends at work have these and they have some really nice features. Still, I'm wondering if I should wait for a couple more Android phones to come out before picking one up. What do you think?
ya thanks for the advice, it seems first generation phones always have some goofs. So yeah, maybe I'd be better off waiting .. any idea when G2 comes out? I know some other Android phones will be out in a few months but haven't heard anything specific ...
Google Apps for your Domain? I think that's all web-page-driven stuff so it should handle it just fine. Isn't Google Apps just a bunch of web pages where you can administrate web/email accounts and stuff?
Not sure if there is a Google apps widget or not, but the G1 ships with a WebKit web browser (the same engine behind Safari and Chrome). So you can certainly visit the web interfaces and access them that way.
I'm sure in the future a Google Apps widget will be made, if there isn't one already
Yes, Apps for your own domain. They are all web driven and yes, the browser is decent. But, I wanted to know if the push Gmail like feature that you can use with normal Gmail accounts works with Google Apps email accounts. I really like MS Exchange's push email system and this is similar but, I didn't see anything on this issue for Apps users. So, I was wondering if it works that way. If it does, MS has some SERIOUS competition.
Open source platform alone is exciting... This is just the 1st generation. The Iphone has been out for over a year now. I would like to see this phone in a year from now in comparison to the Iphone
As someone who actually has a G1 as of 10-17 i can say i had many doubts about this device. I love the G1 but its not perfect, its potential is great. For example the hardware is pretty substantial, its a dual core qualcomm processor!! Plenty of memory and upgradabilty with sd cards. The android os is surprisingly hardy. I managed to crash it with a program that was unstable but the system came back quickly. Everythings open source so it will only get better. No stereo bluetooth or 3.5 jack.
So does the g1 do video messaging? Pix messaging? or is it like the iphone where you have to use an email account to send pix, and no video at all (wtf were they thinking).
T-mobile has been syncing their SideKicks to a webpage since 2002. My notes, contacts, emails, calendar, and photos all update to a webpage in seconds. Thats SEVEN YEARS mammajamma's. What Blackberry and Treo don't ? Even stuff that doesn't get synced to the webpage gets saved to your t-mobile acct. Things like web bookmarks, and quick text. "already" = aly. "about" = ab. "av" = available. SideKicks have ruled for years. But everytime I show someone , they are like "yeah yeah." Now? WOW! wtf.
sorry to let Google know that I am not really impressed compared with other products and services you guys have released. But congrats on making the android software open source...that's the best step or feature in my opinion.
Those are the exact features I'm missing from my iPhone. It took Apple over a year to be able to sync with my Gmail contacts and I still have to sync the iPhone to my PC before the Gmail contacts will sync. I dig street view in the maps application too. Get with it Apple. Looks like you finally have competition in the cell phone market. Nope crackberry doesn't come close.
Happy Birthday, Google. Great search engine. I don't care those fabricated phones which are, for some odd reason, more expensive than computers that can multiply giant prime numbers together.
Brilliant demo, actually shows us all of the features. Can we have an iPhone-style unlimited data plan (rather than T Mobile's 1Gb throttle) now please?

exactly, can't understand people nowadays, technology is improving everyday conveniently to fit our needs and fashions, the world today is not yesterday, so please wake the fuck up and live ur life for today, doesn't matter how bad or good the phone is but i guess ppl don't know how much effort and hard work of these intelligent engineers have put into this phone...geeze, don't like it, leave.
Go ahead, buy the damn phone,be connected and destroy your privacy and your sense of being human!Be constantly connected to the Internet and of course to Google. What does this connectivity offer us:fake internet friends,no privacy,non-stop facebook profile updating, creating a global HUMAN MARKET WHERE EVERYBODY IS INDEXED,where every company with just a few clicks can get an appropriate worker or find something about you.Technology has enslaved us,but most supprisingly with our consent.Wake up!
YES, You say so. And not only that, but also every kind on digital information is being backing up and its been sent to other space to "them". This idiots have no idea. That has some "intellince" that will use the human race to get water from planet earth. In fact, There´s no way out of this !
I am afraid of what is Google becoming into. They will eventually control and store in their system every aspect of your life.Nobody is fighting against the fact that Google memorizes everything that you do on this phone, just like with the new Google Chrome Browser, which is why it was invented-to store every possible data about you for their ad-profiling.Now they also want your phone numbers?Soon we will search people by their phone numbers and locate them on GMaps?Welcome to your GOOGLE life!
reply to nexsharky...people tend to confuse what's good and bad, ppl do good thing is always get blamed on, bad ppl do bad thing is sometimes acceptable. I thought Google always aim to make their products more and more convenience and helpful everyday for every user instead of competing and try to dominate the market like Microsoft.
this is what i learn from the CEO of Google, something like this: "Instead of competing and comparing our competitions, we always look forward what is needed for tomorrow, so we can improve our products more and more helpful." Correct me if i'm wrong.
What about openness? I like most people use Yahoo! Mail, not Gmail (I have a Gmail account, but don't really use it). Would have have been much more compelling to see a 3rd-party app. Currently it makes the phone offering look like a Portal/Telecom play - closed. Thought Google would be a little more progressive than that.
Remember, it's open source. So it's only a matter of time before Google, or a developer, make the add on. Don't worry. Google wouldn't miss something that obvious :) And as for the phone, it looks hot. I want one!
Right, I guess my point was that was the real promise, and they didn't deliver on it for launch, so for the average person it doesn't come across as anything different. It should be the forefront of what they present at launch. I think it looks pretty good too, BTW.
The phone looks pretty good, it's just a shame that it relies so heavily on Google Apps, in my opinion, Google has become a very evil company. There is just no way I would store any data there which is only a tiny bit sensitive. So I'll be sticking with the iPhone for a while, the Android team didn't seem to mind ripping off a lot from that anyway.
Where's the openness? I'm a Yahoo! Mail user, not Gmail. For this to be truly compelling, I would have liked to see some 3rd-party apps. Makes the phone look like another Portal or Telecom play - closed.
Why not switch to google? I was a jahoo user too, until i got tired of the spam and found out about gmail. My life changed for the better; yours could too imho. Cheers!
I have Gmail but prefer the Yahoo! interface. I've controlled spam through a cool feature they have called Address Guard. Believe me, I use a ton of Google products. Mail is one of the few I still like on Yahoo!
Gmail is AWESOME! I have a Yahoo email which I barely use now. The Yahoo email is so junked up with junk mail. Amazing that in Yahoo mail, there is more SPAM in the inbox than in SPAM marked. Ridiculous Yahoo crap. Google Gmail filters real good, the best!
i love android.

I thought Google always aim to make their products more and more convenience and helpful everyday for every user instead of competing and try to dominate the market like Microsoft.
phuthanvinh 3 years ago
this is what i learn from the CEO of Google, something like this: "Instead of competing and comparing our competitions, we always look forward what is needed for tomorrow, so we can improve our products more and more helpful." Correct me if i'm wrong.

They need a better GUI indeed.... u got to see HTC HD new touch GUI. State of the art!
Maybe they should create Patch GUI Presets that will be customized too... that would be great

I think apple and Google could take all of our money if they decided to work together.

It's still a good presentation.

Yeah, I guess I'm just sensitive to such things. This video is about the content, not the presentation.

this is your phone, is you use Google products

Wonderful - I like how they integrated the google apps.

What about openness? I like most people use Yahoo! Mail, not Gmail (I have a Gmail account, but don't really use it). Would have have been much more compelling to see a 3rd-party app. Currently it makes the phone offering look like a Portal/Telecom play - closed. Thought Google would be a little more progressive than that.
senorjames 3 years ago
Remember, it's open source. So it's only a matter of time before Google, or a developer, make the add on. Don't worry. Google wouldn't miss something that obvious :) And as for the phone, it looks hot. I want one!
fuckingyourcorpse 3 years ago
Right, I guess my point was that was the real promise, and they didn't deliver on it for launch, so for the average person it doesn't come across as anything different. It should be the forefront of what they present at launch. I think it looks pretty good too, BTW.
senorjames 3 years ago
The phone looks pretty good, it's just a shame that it relies so heavily on Google Apps, in my opinion, Google has become a very evil company. There is just no way I would store any data there which is only a tiny bit sensitive. So I'll be sticking with the iPhone for a while, the Android team didn't seem to mind ripping off a lot from that anyway.
CamelClass 3 years ago
Where's the openness? I'm a Yahoo! Mail user, not Gmail. For this to be truly compelling, I would have liked to see some 3rd-party apps. Makes the phone look like another Portal or Telecom play - closed.
senorjames 3 years ago
You can still use jahoo.
Why not switch to google? I was a jahoo user too, until i got tired of the spam and found out about gmail. My life changed for the better; yours could too imho. Cheers!
DreadKnight666 3 years ago
I have Gmail but prefer the Yahoo! interface. I've controlled spam through a cool feature they have called Address Guard. Believe me, I use a ton of Google products. Mail is one of the few I still like on Yahoo!
senorjames 3 years ago
Gmail is AWESOME! I have a Yahoo email which I barely use now. The Yahoo email is so junked up with junk mail. Amazing that in Yahoo mail, there is more SPAM in the inbox than in SPAM marked. Ridiculous Yahoo crap. Google Gmail filters real good, the best!
elpresidio 3 years ago 2
I exclusively use Google Gmail since 2005 now.

This is awesome. But... we need pre-paid VOIP, no voice plans. larger screen, more storage, full DivX playback, no $1500 2-year contracts.
Charbax 3 years ago 3
Just what I was thinking. Fuck these lame-ass cell phone networks and plans, there's already a better solution, VOIP!

The URL the product manager tells us to visit at the end of the video leads to a page not found - 404 error.
