  • egress - to pull the shoot.

  • wrong. some guy did that like 40 years ago... look it up. get your shit right redbull

  • @Mastahcheech No, he reached a 990 km/h, not not actually breaking the relative speed of sound due to the densitycondition at his altitude. And it was 51 years ago. So...

  • @Mastahcheech and the guy who did it is helping with this project dumbass

  • Its already been done in the 70 by an american test pilot, he was the first person to break the sound barrier without a machine.

  • @latingeisha No, not with nothing but the human body.

That's all he's using. His body.

  • Maybe they found out it's impossible?

  • @MrGoonin08 ya dose anyone know how fare along the case is i wanna see this happen soon

  • 80 people want to jump that altitude without parachute :)

  • @MrGoonin08 this jump isnt hppning anymoe due to legal copyrght issues

  • This sounds very exciting and all, but Joe Kittinger already did that 1960, so, although it is an amazing feat, It has already been done, therefore this is not the first time.

  • LOL hrd on crack

  • what is egress?

  • doing this and being paid for it..i'd do it for free.

  • im drinking red bull right now

  • DO IT!!!! RED BULL ALL THE WAY BABY!! RIP Eli

  • Joe kittinger and his team didnt take half as many precautions as redbull are. I realise felix is taking a greater risk, but it isnt THAT much a difference.

The build up smacks of defeat already - instead of being confident, theyre all shitting themselves.

redbull should name the date felix jumps, or admit defeat and back out

  • IIIIINsanity!

  • seen this b4 have to say pretty incredible

  • The helmet is made of some incredibly tough stuff. Similar suits are designed to eject from fighter jets and spy planes pushing very high speeds.

True, there is no telling what will happen.

That's what makes it so exciting!

  • what they also dont realise (or not accounted for) is that when he does reach the speed of sound, the shock waves from the sound barrier will crack open his visor, pry open his mask & his eye balls can get sucked out through the extreme vaccum literally turning his body inside out & freezing it snap cold... the risks atr 120k are enormous...again i reckon try 109000 good luck !

  • @rasorclips note also that i personally will give it a go at 109000 if it does not work... & will contact red bull if they need a second pilot.

  • @rasorclips

sorry dude, but i think they MIGHT have soent a little more time on this than you :P

  • @jonnald888 yes they have 3 years actually .. me thinks they are not going to do it now they have discovered the risks involved... 3 years may end up 30 years

  • And it was all looking so cool ...

until I went to the website and it insisted on Microsoft Silverlight.

    FAIL.

  • 120 000 feet = 22.72 MilesRed Bull 2010

    102,800 feet = 19.46 Miles Joe Kittenger 1960

Just 3 miles difference in 50 years of technology.

  • @Microblitz

but once you start pushing the limits like these guys the gains become exponentially reduced with massive increases in effort.

  • Check out my channel. I did a computer simulation of the jump (its a good approximation even without transonic drag) The Blue line on the chart in the upper right is the freefall speed in knots.

  • ya but when he gets down to a lower altitude the air is going to thinken

  • what about terminal velocity

  • what about terminal velocity

  • Patrick: That's interesting. I suppose I ought to believe him, since he was...um.."there," but I wonder if he's only counting speed once he entered the atmosphere or something like that. Because with no wind resistance, I thought I read he was doing 950mph+. Oh well, either way, these guys are both studs, and I hoe this new attempt goes well.

  • I love the spirit of Red Bull and the stunts they pull, but this claim simply isn't true. Joe Kittenger broke the sound barrier when he jumped from 100,000 feet in 1960. Red Bull plans to jump form a higher altitude, but Felix Baumgartner will not be the first man to break the sound barrier under his own propulsion.

  • they work togehter, Baumgartner and Kittinger, and since they say Baumgartner will be the first to break the sound barrier than its probably true.

  • Comment removed

  • @daveth121864 Joe Kittenger said in another Red Bull Stratos video that he never broke the sound barrier

  • Comment removed

  • @bombaykaizoku Col. Joe Kittenger travelled at 596.5 MPH the speed of sound at sea level is 761 MPH.

It's not really good to use the speed of sound as a measurement since the speed of sound chances with the density of air.

  • Comment removed

  • guy did this for nasa ab years ago,in 1960 joe kittinger

fell faster than sound in freefall from a balloon.102,800 ft from sea level.

check it out (he's either brave as fek or thick as pig sh1t) either way he broke speed o sound.

  • been there. done that.

  • @TheDrinkingGameShow noone has ever broken the speed of sound in freefall and that is the goal they are aiming for...a supersonic freefall

  • pretty much

  • act dumm and jump forest gump style the money will roll right inn.Thats all i have to say about that.

  • "God: Hidden Science" - Google it!

  • This guy has huge balls!

  • who is gonna do it?

  • when is he doing it?

  • Cant Wait Man They Need To Get Some Fucking Dates Set

  • awesome....whole new meaning for the phrase 'drop from the sky' #redbullstratos

  • We straight luv the channel!!!

  • there are alot of people sayng Kittenger did this before.. yes he did jump from high up but this will be almost 20,000 feet higher and felix will be breaking the speed of sound not just reaching it.. pretty big difference.. he will be breaking the height record and the speed record.. and many have attempted and failed (died).. so it is different and it is a big deal...

  • this is fucking insane.

  • ovously it hasent bin dun u wantech

  • this is a sick video

  • lots of nerdy comments that i dont give a fuck about.

  • LOL

  • Supersonic freefall by human was first done in 1960 by Joe Kittenger. Unless they're doing it without oxygen support it's pretty much the same thing.

  • can't wait to c

    wish you best buddy :)

  • so wait, is he going BACK in time or forward??

  • Now thats outside the damn box!

  • good luck!!!!

  • yo, dig this. Scientific exploration is cool, but the meditation of looking at your own mind is about 100 % more important. I hope you understand.

  • @Semnyi

More like AS important, but definitely not twice as important.

  • This is probably one of the craziest things we will see in our lifetime. I cant wait to see this happen!!!

  • is supersonic and sonic boom the same think?

  • nah b, sonic boom is the shock that is caused supersonic speed

  • March 1

  • @xScottieBMX204x dude if you saw @ 1:00 mark "March 1" look again!

    :)

  • the dude in the video used big word i did not get lol

  • lol me too

  • Wen is this gonna happen???

  • man this is going to be some crazy shitttt!

  • i thought their was a max speed u can fall at like 250 mph law of phisics you can only go as fast as friction will let u and i dont think grvaty as ur power will go the speed of sound with out an additional souce of momentum

  • its cause the air is so thin at that altitude, less air, less friction, simple physics

  • @JNUGMOB

Also, the speed of sound at high altitude is lower than the average at ground level. According to the info in the sidebar the speed of sound is 690mph @ 100,000 feet compared to approx 770mph at ground level (mainly) due to the difference in temperature.

  • there is terminal velocity

  • @SmileFilmsVideo

    Your point being?

  • Simply stating the scientific phenomena. I'm not 100% sure but I think the only way this works is by the weight of the suit he is going to wear? Without it terminal velocity would be below the speed of sound. An example is sky divers not reaching the barrier. But these guys are also going from a much higher altitude which changes even more things. All in all I am quite curious to see what will happen.

  • Read my comment above for a description of the scientific principals involved in this feat :)

(The lack of humidity and/or the low density of the air at that altitude also has an effect )

  • you are right but that is why they are falling from so high up where there will be no wind resistance to slow him down. aka "like a vacuum"

  • o kk ya i can see it now ok thanx not as much friction cool im a beliver now

  • the jumper is an Austrian

  • @ 0:48 On August 16, 1960, Joe Kittinger made the jump from the Excelsior III at 102,800 feet (31,300 m). Towing a small drogue chute for initial stabilization, he fell for FOUR minutes and 36 seconds, reaching a maximum speed of 614 mph (988 km/h or 274 m/s) before opening his parachute at 18,000 feet!

  • fucking awesome

  • woow ...

  • That dude talking is way scarier then the jump itself.. He eats babies

  • do they dead?

  • Der Sprung wird der Hammer eifnach unglaublich.

  • cant be done

  • it stil will be...

  • gogogo dude!

  • Auf geht's, Felix!

  • sick

  • I can't see how he can break the sound barrier. He can't go faster than his terminal velocity... Please tell me how :)

  • The terminal velocity is reached when the resistance is equal

to the gravitational pull, but Felix will fall from much higher then

the usual 11000ft for parachute jumps, he wil jump from 120000ft

where the resistance is much lower, as he is nearly completely

    above the earths atmosphere

  • Ahh ok. Thanks mate.

  • intense! i think that felix is insane!

  • Lawl

  • holy sh!t

  • Asowm! i have to see that one!!!

  • I cant wait for this to happen.

    Goodluck!

    Get this televised!

This will be a huge achievement.

1st time the 100ft one happend, not many people knew about it unfortunately.

  • this kid is a physico

  • redbull gives you wiings

  • Jazza159 liked this

  • And this is why I drink RedBull. They come up with and FOLLOW THROUGH with some of the most awesome stuff ever. That, and I want them to by my Rally Car sponsor. But, that's besides the point.

  • good job, nevermind the taste and all!

  • All i can Say is

    Holy Fucking Shit

  • i dont see monster droping people from space haha

  • this does not look to good

  • Wow RedBull, 100,000 feet

  • i dont get it :(

  • skydiving from space.

  • @medelucki1 jumping out of a plane to try and fall at the speed of sound.... whats not to get

  • wow that it sooooooo crazy

  • Great brand with very very bad tv commercials.

And please dont blame the communication strategy

  • this is why i love redbull

  • Holy SHiT! this is insane!!!

  • 0:40

    1:36

    1:44 x2

  • red bull does some crazy $#!% but this is insane

  • when is it?

  • kool

  • and when i got there, it was all gone!

  • 0:44 lol they use solidworks

  • " Red bull gives u wiiiiings !! "

  • This would be insane if they actually pull it off.

  • Correct me if I am wrong, but I am pretty sure that Kittinger already broke the speed of sound in his free-fall. I do hope this guy sets a new record, can't wait.

  • no he didnt break the speed of sound... thats y this is such a big deal..cause he will be the first person to do it

  • o_0 i think it might be possible they're in over their heads for the first time.... but who knows....

  • Crazy stuff!!

  • they are going to make it :D

  • This is insane

  • new years, its going down. ha hopefully that would be legit

  • u guys r crazy

  • Any got any idea when this is happening ??

  • @cakyfuzz perhaps never :)

  • March 1 i think

  • i think there going to do it im ready to watch this shit

  • Wow.... Good luck

  • Im a i going to watch this guy die on TV or what? where can i see him do this shit

  • fuck ya is all im gana say oh ya nd RED BULL COLA had 4 of those and 2 regular redbulls over vacation

  • I hope they know what there doing!

  • no freaking way.

  • insane.

  • 4th

  • oh my jesus thats aBSOLUTELY crazy

  • This wont work, not a chance!!!

  • lets all agree with the wannabe rocket scientist

  • Actually there is nothing to stop it from working. It's all very possible.

  • Did you even watch the vid? Where Joe himself says that Felix will be going faster then he did.

  • Faster or not, it's not that much different from the Kittengers jump :). It won't be much faster for sure.

  • Cause Hes Going Harder And Way Farther Up

  • first
