  • Wow, I used to watch his TV specials as a kid! Thanks for sharing this!

  • Also, Things that go bump was based on a VERY old illusion that went by another name. Doug really relished taking old illusions & breathing new life into them, just as he breathed new life into the art of magic, which was in very sad shape till he came along. He opened the door for Copperfield & the others that followed him. Like MaddawgBBone said, Doug made magic FUN! We NEED another Doug Henning!!

  • @thegreathoudunit If anyone is willing to put up the funding, I will gladly become the next Doug Henning.

  • @irican01 Sorry pal, but money is not what it took to make Henning so great. It was an inner quality very few magicians, or people in general have. He would have been just as great & entertaining if he stood there counting toothpicks! But, nice try. I give you an A for effort. HA! :)

  • @thegreathoudunit I just need the money to pay for illusions, everything else I can supply on my own.

  • Doug was AWSOME!!!! I am SOOOOOO proud to say I saw him in person, & met both him & his beautiful wife & assistant Debby after the show. GENUINLY warm & gracious people!! I worked at the local magic sho, & when I told him, he said "keep up the great work because one day I'll get tired of all this traveling, & you're helping to train my replacement". I replied "NO ONE can replace you!" & I see I was RIGHT! No one HAS!! God rest you Doug, you are GREATLY missed :((

  • Boy RWP did you ever get it wrong I was Copperfields illusion manager for about 6 years and knew Doug they were friendly rivels but both performed at about the same time. Doug sold a lot of illusions at auctionbut David only bought a bif screen for close up magic . David later bought rights for illusions like the Elivator. Oragami and the water levitation but both are amazing magicians in thier own right

  • Sorry to sound skeptical, but exactly what years were you David Copperfield's illusion manager?

  • Hi RWP

Great to hear from you . I am not sure of the years but I worked on all the TV specials from alcatraz to the Orient express if you go back and see them you will see me here and there ( I am also in the credits ) . It was the best of times and the worst of times of my life but I would not have traded it for anything

    All the Best

    Mike Keating

  • Doug would have been larger then DC if doug didn't go into his yoga interests and move to india. I wish his niagara falls magic land was created but the shareholders didn't care to financially fund the idea. As for Doug, he sold many of his props to DC, and was the first magician since Houdini, to give big Showmanship and make magic bigger and more entertaining magic shows with music and dance. Doug henning unlike blaine or angel, will be considered the worlds greatest

  • Doug Henning sold all his tricks to David Copperfield when he quit doing magic and began working fulltime in the TM movement. That's why Copperfield's so good!

  • David Copperfield is SOOOO much better.

  • 3rd bump was near failure.....

  • Cool rainbow vest

  • doug henning made magic fun... there would be no magic today if not 4 doug!!!

  • oh my gosh..LOL I love it !

  • wow, no one has commented this in a month

  • If Burton and Copperfield really do have differently-named versions of this same trick, think of it as the ultimate flattery. Btw: the actress in the blue cover-alls is (I believe) Didi Conn. She had two memorable film roles in the Seventies. She played the struggling singer that introduced the overplayed Debbie Boone hit "You Light Up My Life." And, of course, the beauty school drop-put in "Grease."

  • Wow. The guy with the rainbow colored shirt and overalls is dressed like a Kindergarten girl. Funny the things you could get away with in 1981!

  • I've never realized how much magic that David Copperfield copied from Doug Henning. David Copperfield has an act just like this one called , " The big black box" Check it out on you tube

  • he's from my city!

    Oakville...

I didnt know for all this time until abouthalf a year ago.

    Awesome!

  • Thank you so much for posting all these wonderful clips of Doug Henning!! It brings back such good memories to see him again! Thank you so much.

  • Interesting. I just read about this in "Art & Artiface", and hadn't realized that Lance Burton has a similar bit in his act, only with a Native American theme and a teepee.

  • good job

  • thats easy the people come from behind

  • Let's see you do it hot shot!

  • what do you mean with hot shot

  • I mean it's easy to sit at a screen and blab how you think it's done. Let's see YOU get on stage and do it!
