@phoenix100ism the quote came from an original (or as original as it gets) version of the quran dating from around 1200 ad. over time the text has probably been adapted more then once, bu that is exactly what it said, also another part about beating your wife if she doesn't obey, there where more then i care to remember, there are several other things in the quran as well that you may find unexpected, like statements regarding the sun's rotation around the earth and such.

The koran has extremely vague passages that people claim relate to scientific reality, and do most other religions that have old religious texts. They're not believable or convincing claims. I could make similar claims about Dr. Suess books.

@phoenix100ism the quote came from an original (or as original as it gets) version of the quran dating from around 1200 ad. over time the text has probably been adapted more then once, bu that is exactly what it said, also another part about beating your wife if she doesn't obey, there where more then i care to remember, there are several other things in the quran as well that you may find unexpected, like statements regarding the sun's rotation around the earth and such.

Theo Van Gough was shot 8 times and had his head almost cut off (he's dead of course), three muslims were put on trial for conspiracy to murder a dutch artist, two dutch embassies were bombed/set on fire. Islam was spread by the sword, by a warlord, and has extensive capitol punishment, many capitol crimes also being imaginary crimes, and the koran is a pretty damn violent book. Even without some followers becoming extra violent... I'd have trouble seeing it as peaceful in some way. It also runs counter to science and evidence, poisoning critical thinking ability. Something like that... I'll tolerate it... and be polite, at least until it causes trouble... but respect? No.

The koran has extremely vague passages that people claim relate to scientific reality, and do most other religions that have old religious texts. They're not believable or convincing claims. I could make similar claims about Dr. Suess books.
